FileMaker Pro on FileMaker Server Server

7 posts in this topic

Is it OK if I install FileMaker Pro on my FileMaker Server? We are running FMS13 on a Windows 2012 Server (Standard). I was thinking of putting FileMaker Pro 13 on the server so that I could open up backups on occasion. Do they co-exist well?

According to the FMS 13 Getting Started Guide:

If you are currently running FileMaker Pro on the same machine, you must quit FileMaker Pro

before installing FileMaker Server.

https://fmhelp.filemaker.com/docs/13/en/fms13_getting_started.pdf#page=9

I don't know if its good or bad, I have never had a need to install FM Pro or Advanced on the server machine.

Yes. But DO NOT open the backups directly.

Instead make a COPY of the backup you want to investigate. Don't just drag the backup elsewhere you must make a COPY. This is due to the way the backups are generated using HARD LINKS

I do it my myself but for other reasons.

Hi Ryan,

I don't believe there will be a problem with installing Pro on the Server machine.

Josh's reply relates to the installation process for FileMaker Server. Always close open Pro/Advanced applications during the installation process.

Also, if you plan to use FileMaker Pro for debugging purposes in addition to opening the backups, grab Advanced instead.

Hope this helps

hehe...yeah. The reference was simply to show that Pro can be installed on the same machine.

IdealData - Great clarification.

Wouldn't they conflict, as both would try to listen on port 5003?

First, never have both open at the same time.

Second, it is possible, perhaps even likely, the FileMaker Pro will behave abnormally running on the Server OS.  However, it likely is possible to install it.

Third, pay very close attention to the comments about the backups.  Never open the backup on the machine.  Always make a copy of that backup and open the copy if need be.  You can copy it to another location on the same server machine.

      Hi,
I'm am using BasicElements BE_ExecuteSystemCommand via PSOS to run different commands and commandline tools for different purposes (PDF and image handling etc.) - and it works perfectly.
However some commands needs to be run from an Administrator account or even Domain Administrator account, but FMS uses the NT Authority/System account for running scripts.
How do I get around this? Is there anyway to change which account FMS is using?

Hi Gang, long time no see!
Anyway, I am attempting to use Insert From Url to pull in some XML data and am having no luck with it.
When I use a url such as "https://ipaddress/fmi/xml/fmresultset.xml?-dbnames", I receive the expected result:
      <fmresultset version="1.0"><error code="0"/><product build="05/08/2015" name="FileMaker Web Publishing Engine" version="13.0.10.1003"/><datasource database="DBNAMES" date-format="" layout="" table="" time-format="" timestamp-format="" total-count="4"/><metadata><field-definition auto-enter="no" four-digit-year="no" global="no" max-repeat="1" name="DATABASE_NAME" not-empty="yes" numeric-only="no" result="text" time-of-day="no" type="normal"/></metadata><resultset count="4" fetch-size="4"><record mod-id="0" record-id="0"><field name="DATABASE_NAME"><data>FMServer_Sample</data></field></record><record mod-id="0" record-id="0"><field name="DATABASE_NAME"><data>LatestUpdates</data></field></record><record mod-id="0" record-id="0"><field name="DATABASE_NAME"><data>PSoS_Log_CWP</data></field></record><record mod-id="0" record-id="0"><field name="DATABASE_NAME"><data>TEST_XML</data></field></record></resultset></fmresultset> When I attempt to query the TEST_XML file, however, e.g., "https://ipaddress/fmi/xml/fmresultset.xml?-db=TEST_XML&-layoutnames", nothing is returned. TEST_XML is a simple one-table (called TESTER) file with one field ("id"), one layout ("Testing") and a handful of records. It is set to auto-login as [Guest], which has the [Full Access] privilege and only the fmxml Extended Privilege.
The server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, SP1 and FM Server 13.0.10.1004, with everything enabled in the Admin Console. I am using  Advanced 13.0v9 and Pro 13.0v9, though I receive an empty result in FireFox and IE also.
      Am I missing something obvious?

      Hi all,
I am trying to write a script that let me display multiple fields of the same tables and create a button that run that script.
for example a button to show the current address and another on to show the previous address, or some thing like that.
I don't know if this idea is doable or not.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I am using filemaker pro 13
      Thanks

"This is the first time I'm setting up a script to run on a server with the help of a schedule, so I will probably make a lot of strange mistakes, but how hard can it be?
      Hard, obviously. :|"
I have a script that check for new files in a folder, process them, export some data and move the files to a new destination. It works flawless with the Filemaker Client.
On the Server I can't get it to work! I'm using the BE_ListFilesInFolder step.
The folder that I want to check is the following (the FMServer User have both read and write privileges on all mentioned folders):
      C:\FTP\FM\In\
This is outside the server Documents folder, so just to be sure I tried to change it to:
      C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Data\Documents\In\
I get the same error on both.

I have tried to use a field as the path as well as hardcoded as well as variables in different combinations:
      BE_ListFilesInFolder ( System::FMIn Folder )
      BE_ListFilesInFolder ( "C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Data\Documents\In" )
      Set variable($folderpath) and then BE_ListFilesInFolder($folderpath)
      Same error.

I have tried a zillion different ways. With the Client it works. From the server it does not. I GET CRAZY!!!
      What have I missed?
...or should I just skip the Filemaker Server Schedule and do this with a client instead?
      Tia,
      /Andreas
