  1. Hello Everyone, I've written a PowerShell script to allow you to get a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt to use with FileMaker Server. You can schedule this to run every few months and renew your certificate automatically. Now there's no reason to keep using that default certificate. Check out the post for instructions! How to Use Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificates with FileMaker Server | Blue Feather - FileMaker Developer, Android, Web EDIT: One compatibility note for everyone - While it looks like it's all compatible with FileMaker Pro 13-15, only FileMaker Go 15 is compatible. FileMaker Go 14 is unable to connect with these certificates installed. I'd recommend using FM Go 15 anyway, but it's something to be aware of if you're still using FM Go 14.
  2. We have need for a filemaker developer/consultant to make modifications to an existing Filemaker 12 database. The database makes use of a number of scripts to "synchronise" records with a second Filemaker database hosted on a windows web server. Changes to be made to the database include debugging the existing scripts and fixing bad design in the table relationships. The primary database is hosted in north queensland, Australia. However due to the remoteness of the location we are expecting that it will be necessary to work remotely with a developer. Access can be provided via VNC or LogMeIn. Ideally we'd like someone in a time-zone close to the East coast of Australia (and ideally within Australia), but we are willing to consider offshore developers as well. I am an experienced web and database developer with other technologies, and I would feel most comfortable with a Filemaker developer who also had experience with SQL databases (I don't mind which ones: SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle etc) and other programming or scripting languages in addition to Filemaker. In addition to a series of one-off changes to the database, we would be interested in someone who can provide ongoing support. If you are interested, please leave your contact details here, or send me a private message for more details.
  3. San Diego, CA - January 12, 2017 - Productive Computing, Inc., a Platinum member of the FileMaker® Business Alliance, is proud to announce the release of its first server-side plug-in - FM Books Connector Online Edition version 2.0.1.0. This plug-in is now compatible with FileMaker Server 14 -15 for Mac and Windows. The FM Books Connector Online Edition plug-in connects FileMaker with QuickBooks Online and enables users to push and pull contacts, invoices, and other sales transaction information. A FileMaker and QuickBooks integration eliminates double entry and provides financial data to staff without multiple people accessing sensitive QuickBooks company files. Version 2.0.1.0 includes an updated demo file to introduce and familiarize users and developers with the new server functionality, a new video for step-by-step instructions on how to install the plug-in on the server, and updated documentation for easier development and integration. "We embarked on a mission to create a QuickBooks Online server-side plug-in so that users could streamline deployment and explore truly mobile options. By utilizing the server-side plug-in to handle the processing, users on FileMaker Pro, iPad, iPhone or WebDirect have the ability to shuffle data back and forth to QuickBooks Online without having to install a client-side plug-in." Marc Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer, Productive Computing, Inc. With a Server license, multiple users can now post to QuickBooks Online from a desktop with FileMaker client, from a web browser using FileMaker WebDirect, and from an iPhone or iPad via FileMaker Go. The server-side plug-in allows users to capitalize on the mobility of QuickBooks Online. Sales staff, bookkeepers, or any employee can push a transaction from FileMaker to QuickBooks from the office, on the road, or working remotely from home. Additional benefits of a Server license include: - Added convenience of only needing to install the Server plug-in on one machine - Unlimited users on one server - Ability to connect with multiple QuickBooks Online company files - Faster processing times than client-side plug-ins The FM Books Connector Online Edition plug-in is available for an annual rate of $200 for a single user (client side) and $450 for a Server license. The Server license comes with a free copy of the single user (client) plug-in to allow for development and authentication with QuickBooks online. For more information on the FM Books Connector Online Edition plug-in and system requirements visit www.fmbooksconnectoronline.com or call 760-510-1200. 4. I'm unsure where exactly to post this so I'll try it here. If there's a better place please move this but it seems to be the correct category. I'm looking to setup hosting for a 15 member team who will be primarily accessing the database via WebDirect. However, I'd like to connect the solution to MySQL and open up parts of the database to 50 other users via Custom Web Publishing (php). I'd appreciate any feedback on hosting companies who can handle some or all of the following: licensing, WebDirect, Custom Web Publishing and ODBC. I looked into FileMaker Cloud but it doesn't seem to be able to handle CWP. Someone mentioned today that you can go with AWS apart from Cloud and I'd love to hear feedback on that as well. Anything you guys can share on good and less than desirable solutions would be most appreciated. Feel free to recommend your own company or PM me and tell me why I'll like working with you. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone, We have a newly deployed OS X 10.10.5 Server with FMS14 installed with only 3 databases hosted, all accessible via Web Direct. Now some of our customers are experiencing difficulties with even accessing our solutions, which we have narrowed down to local network problems at our customers. The problem is, the login window is not showing, and therefore they can't access the databases. Now, the problem is somehow browser based.. I went through the login process with a customer, which was sitting with Windows 8.1 / IE.. Now when trying to connect to the database the customer gets the following message "Failed to load the bootstrap javascript ./VAADIN/vaardinBootstrap.js" I then tried to connect to the database through Chrome, which worked perfectly fine! Is there something I can do for the customer or on our Server, to prevent this message for future customers? Best regards Christoffer

  8. Hello there, I installed today mirror sync as a trial on a filemaker server to give it a try. After Installation and reboot of the server (basically it wasn't responding) I logged in on mirror sync and start creating a new configuration, but It gives me an error when I try to access to the database server. What am I missing?

  10. The Insert PDF context menu item is greyed out on my container field when I have my database open locally. My Google Fu has failed me on solving this. My container field is on a layout, not in a portal. I have Interactive Content checked. I have a PDF viewer working in IE. (Zeon - I do not know where I got this plugin - I very rarely use IE.). I also have an older version of NitroPDF Pro which I use daily, but no IE plugin at the moment. The container field Storage settings are "Store container data externally" and using Open storage option. I also tried the secure storage option which was the default. I have FM Pro 14.0.4 and this database is not converted from earlier version. I am using Windows 10 I can drag and drop a PDF into the container and I get the PDF icon, but it is not interactive However it is interactive (both native and WebDirect) when I upload the database to FM Server - which is also my local computer for now. But in all cases Insert PDF is greyed out. The only other solution that the web has coughed up it to use the newest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader which is not an option - I refuse to use that piece of #$@&. What else can I try? Thanks, Brad

We have a message in the database that is sent out to end users at certain times. Filemaker used to properly format the line break tag <br> at the end of the lines where it was needed. Now it sends them along in the message which is confusing a lot of our non-technical users. I have removed them but now the message is not properly formatted and comes in on large chunk of text. Has anybody experienced this as well and have any advice for a solution to restore formatting the way we would like? Thanks in advance.
  13. I've built a new plugin made by ScriptMaster Advanced 4 and trying to use it on FileMaker Server 13. It works well in 2 hours, but seems to expire after that. Registration script works well on client-side(FileMaker Pro), but does not work on FileMaker Server. What should I do to use the plugin on FileMaker Server? Thank you in advanced.
  14. I successfully deployed SuperContainer (SC) via the Web Publishing Engine (WPE) of FileMaker Server 11 for years, on a Mac mini (2010) running OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), with no problems. But I ran into the following problem with Mavericks and SC: I upgraded to more modern versions of OS X and FMS by doing a completely clean installation: Formatted the Mac mini's drive; Did a clean installation of OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks); and Installed FileMaker Server 12v6 without problems. Next, I downloaded the latest SuperContainer from 360Works (v2.896). When I double-clicked the "Mac Installer.app" (also known as "SCInstaller") to deploy SC with FMS, as I did before with FMS11, I was surprised to see this alert pop up: "'Mac installer' is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash." Mac Installer is damaged.tiff I tried downloading a fresh copy, using Safari and Firefox; same error. I’d never seen this message before when installing any software, and I found no reports of it in this forum or in TechNet. The icon displayed in the alert window indicated that it was originating from Mac OS Gatekeeper. So the solution I tried was to change the "Security & Privacy" System Preference of Mavericks, under the "General" tab, to "Allow apps downloaded from Anywhere", rather than the more restrictive "Mac App Store and identified developers" option. (Perhaps another option would have been just to control-click the app icon and then select “Open”, to exempt the app from Gatekeeper; I didn't test that.) Apple’s support article on Gatekeeper mentions this “Damaged” app warning message is an indication that “the app has been altered by something other than the developer.” I doubt that any “true damage” is present in the Mac Installer for SC. I think the message appeared because AppleScript scripts get modified after they’re signed. An Apple support article on Mavericks security states: “Some apps and tools, such as AppleScript applications and some legacy tools, modify themselves after signing. These types of apps cannot be opened unless the Gatekeeper setting in Security & Privacy preferences is set to Anywhere” I had only tried the SC Installer on Mavericks, but I suppose the same error might have occurred on Mountain Lion or Lion, since Gatekeeper was introduced with Lion. It appears, for now, that we may need to temporarily disable Gatekeeper (by choosing the "Anywhere" option) in order for SC's Mac Installer to work. David M. Hollander, MD Combined Fields Consulting
  15. I have a few questions about the new Web Direct, I am new to FileMaker and has only been using it for development in 2 months. We have acquired FileMaker Pro 12 Advanced recently but without a server. Now from what I understand is you can CWP with FM 12 but will need a server. You also need FileMaker Server if you go with WD too right? And which one is better? I was trying to test Web Direct in FileMaker Server 13 Trial but is having no luck since I am having a "Database not available" error whenever I try to open my database or the sample one. Can anyone help me out with this?
  16. Crestline, CA, Jan 7, 2014 -- Dracoventions has released Beta 64-bit updates of all 2empowerFM plug-ins for use on FileMaker Server 13. That means our free SQL Runner, Script Scheduler, and Text Toolkit for regular expression and hash functions are all waiting for you to use with FileMaker's latest server technology. Dracoventions is proud to be one of the first plug-in vendors to offer the 64-bit upgrade. Plug-in updates can be found at 2empowerFM.com for both Macintosh and Windows, or see the release notes to learn about other minor fixes in this release. Why 64-bit? As you may have heard, FileMaker Server 13 requires all plug-ins to be 64 bit instead of 32 bit. If you try to load a 32-bit plug-in, it simply won't load, logging a cryptic error message to system.log on Mac that ends with the words "mach-o, but wrong architecture". On Windows, FileMaker Server won't even list plug-ins unless their filename ends in ".fmx64" instead of ".fmx". On Mac, it's not easy to tell if a plug-in supports 64 bit, but it can be done by running a command in the Terminal app: file <path to plug-in file>/Contents/MacOS/* If you see "64-bit" anywhere in the output, the plug-in supports 64 bit. Why FileMaker Server 13? FileMaker has let you interact with databases using your web browser for years through Instant Web Publishing. The problem has always been that the database doesn't look or behave quite the same, forcing developers to do extensive testing and implement workarounds to give IWP users a decent experience. FileMaker Server 13 introduces WebDirect, a completely new way of putting the database in a browser using modern HTML5 technology. WebDirect makes your database look and act almost like using it through a FileMaker Pro client, giving us all a new and easy way to access FileMaker databases on the go, even using a low-cost Chromebook. Even if you're not interested in WebDirect, FileMaker 13's "Perform Script on Server" script step lets you call server plug-ins without needing to install plug-ins on every FileMaker Pro client. About 2empowerFM Plug-ins Our family of 2empowerFM plug-ins save you time during FileMaker development and add powerful features to your FileMaker Pro solutions. Our plug-ins include: 2empowerFM Developer Assistant - Quickly search all scripts to find ones containing a string or pattern. - Find table names, function and script step names, field metadata, and more, without generating a DDR. - Debug and develop faster by evaluating highlighted expressions immediately instead of copying, closing dialogs, and pasting into FileMaker's Data Viewer. 2empowerFM Hands-Free Printer - Automate printing and control printer-specific settings. - Save money by enforcing the use of double sided and toner saver modes. - Prevent costly mistakes like printing all records instead of current record. 2empowerFM Menu Popper - Pop-up multi-level menus anywhere on a FileMaker layout. - Use unique dropdown menus to show type-ahead search results from multiple searches. - Make menu items bold, italic, underlined, bulleted, or add separator lines between items. 2empowerFM Keyboard and Mouse - Easily link hotkeys to scripts, create image-map buttons, and change the mouse cursor. 2empowerFM SQL Runner - Insert and Update data in any FileMaker table without changing layouts or creating extra table relationships. - Use an SQL query in a calculated field to generate dynamic pop-up lists. - One of our FREE plug-ins! 2empowerFM Text Toolkit - Perform powerful search and replace in database text using Perl-compatible regular-expressions. - Generate a hash of data using many algorithms including SHA512, MD5, and TR1. - Another FREE plug-in! 2empowerFM Clipboard Explorer - Save and restore objects on the clipboard including stylized text, FileMaker scripts, and layout objects. - Also totally FREE! 18. Hello, I have had to open another server location that I CANNOT set up with a static IP address. This location is where I'm going to install FMS 9.0 (hopefully). I'm interested in seeing if it's possible to bypass the static IP issue for FMS by setting up a VPN network so that the server and clients think they're on the same private side of a LAN. Having never studied, setup, diagnosed or otherwise ever touched VPN, I'm very much in the dark on the feasibility and ease to do this. I know the filemaker Go clients might be an issue with this setup, given the VPN limitations I'm sure apple built into IOS. Here's other relevant details below: Server: intel Duo MacMini Server OS: OS10.5 or OS10.6 (as needed for configuration with VPN) Filemaker Server: 9.0 Comcast Xfinity gateway router 25 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up speed 13 files hosted, largest is 35MB 4 remote "low workload" users (filemaker go & FMP 9.0) 1 or 2 remote "power" users (Macbook pro's: 10.8 / FMP 9.0 THanks for the consideration! 19. Hello Here is my problem: Filemaker Server Adv v11.02, Server OSX 10.5.8, Client FM Adv 11.04 Using XML import, I would like to import data from a password-protected REST-API into my database solution. The database is on the server. Importing the xml data from a file from my harddisk with the appropriate xsl file is working fine, however, over http, it does not work. I tried the user:password@webseite.com method, but it did not work either (the user is an e-mail address and has an @ sign) and considering safety, this might not be a good method anyway. Is there a solution to this problem, i.e. import xml data over the internet (http) und integrate user and password? Is there a function, possibly ans external function of a plugin? Thank you for your help Michael Heinzelmann
  20. Hi, some time ago, I posted this technique called FMSDIFM for FileMaker Server, Do It For Me. Although it was widely discussed and used by FileMaker 'techies', it was too hard to deploy, so we had to keep it for ourselves (the principle was already public but the implementation was only for our hosting services customers). Since then, we've worked on a simplified version so every one can install it on any FileMaker Server hosted file. We've been using it for a year, and now we're making it public and free. I will present a session at Pause On Error Berlin this week about it. If you're coming to Berlin, bring some heavy script of yours that you've been trying to optimize, and I will show you how FMSDIFM can help. Here is a new video and the download link. Please consider the web page down the link to be the 'official' documentation page, and post your comments here on FM Forums. The-page-with-a-video-and-everything. For those who don't know yet what FMSDIFM is about, well, it's the same thing, read the page Seriously, FMSDIFM is about performing CPU/data-intensive tasks on the server rather than on the client. It improves performance by a factor of several hundreds. Simply hudge! But as you will see, this is only one of the benefits.

  23. Hi, I don't currently have the capability (mainly the capital requirements) to setup a FileMaker server, so I'm looking for a hosted server. I was wondering what recommendations you have for companies that host? I've seen some out there, but I have no idea how good they are. The only one I've contacted so far has not answered my inquiry. Please include your thoughts on support, reliability, cost, performance, and any other issues you think I should consider. Thanks, Grant
  24. I'm trying to upload some files using a FileMaker script scheduled on the server. I'm getting an odd error though. Here are the details: ERROR MESSAGE: Error uploading file. java.lang.IllegalStateException: SCPluginModel#setResource must be called from the EDT DESTINATION PATH: attachments/000091 SOURCE_PATH: /tmp/mailmate_downloads/34/CIMG0257.JPG FILE SIZE: 78606336 SystemVersion: 10.6.8 (OS X) Java Version: java version "1.6.0_15" Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03-219) Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.1-b02-90, mixed mode) SuperContainer version 2.81 SuperContainer Companion Plugin version 2.81 (in .../Database Server/Extensions) Files are loading just fine client-side (also using v2.81 of companion plugin). It's just server-side that's not working. I don't think it matters that FileMaker can't see that directory from a server-side script, because I'm pretty sure I've successfully loaded files from this directory before. Does anyone have some advice? Thanks in advance. Donovan
