  1. One of the most powerful tools in the FileMaker window-management arsenal is the FileMaker Card Window. This technique is primarily used for detailed dialogs or wizards, providing a more flexible option than the traditional FileMaker custom dialog. 2. I am designing a database for the inspection sheets used in our quality lab. Each of our parts has a different number of criteria that they need to be inspected for. This ranges anywhere from 5-15 dimensional requirements. I am wondering if there is anyway in FileMaker to display a varying number of both editable and uneditable fields. So for instance if somebody pulls an inspection sheet for a part with 6 different dimensional requirements, FileMaker will only show 6 uneditable fields describing the dimensions in question, and 6 editable fields for the user to type in their measurement. Then, if somebody pulls an inspection sheet with 10 dimensional requirements, it will display 10 instead. Thank you for any assistance you all can offer!
  3. I need some help in determining if I am missing something crucial here or if there is a limitation or bug in the function BE_ApplyXSLT from the BaseElements plugin. I am using version 3.3.4 (which is the latest) on Mac OS X 10.11.6 using FileMaker 15 Adv. and 16 Adv. I am unable to get any output from the transformation, nor any error. According to the documentation, the command shall return either 0 when successful or an error. Link In my testing it only returns blank, and gives no error even when no output file is generated. It should not return blank in cany case according to the docs. (I suspect there may be a documentation error and that it actually returns blank when there is no error.) No error is found using Get(LastError). BE_GetLastError returns 0. The function format is this: BE_ApplyXSLT ( xmlPath ; xslt ; outputPath ) Here are the input parameters I have used: BE_ApplyXSLT ( "/var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/ABC_nota_108.xml" ; BE_ReadTextFromFile ( "/var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/HTMLvisning/Stylesheet_Full.xsl" ); "/var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/output.html" ) I have verified that the files exist and that both the XML and XSLT are valid. All files are in UTF-8. I can transform the XML with this XSLT using other methods without errors. I have also tried having the XSLT in a variable. As I understand it, BaseElements uses the libxml2 engine. I have tried doing the transform from the command line directly and it works as it should: xsltproc -o /var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/output.html /var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/HTMLvisning/Stylesheet_Full.xsl /var/folders/y6/1yf76qcs5y91h_w4j27hxp980000gp/T/S10.2/ABC_nota_108.xml It also works fine using the XMLLib OSAX in AppleScript. Unfortunately, I need Windows support also so I would like to get the BaseElements function to work. I hope somone can shed some light on what may be going on.

  5. Hi, Got a real strange issue.... My button bars look fine, slightly offset, but fine on the desktop version... But as soon as I look on FM Go, one of the text boxes just floats away? - I have tried moving it around and changing the size and i just get the same issue but with different buttons? See images... Thanks
  6. It is no secret that custom applications are immensely beneficial to organizations. The question becomes, should I pay for external experts to create a solution for me, or should we have someone in house build the app. Build or Buy (Should I Learn FileMaker?) David Happersberger dbservices.com
  7. Hey, I have a Tab-Separated Text File which I want to import to a database that I just created in FileMaker Pro 15. The text file essentially is a log of events, for instance, one line describes an order, another line describes a payment that has been made. The problem is that I somehow need to import all these lines into different tables. I want all lines in the log file that describe a payment in a table called Payments, and all lines that describe an order in a table called Orders for example. I'm just starting out with FileMaker so forgive me if there is an obvious solution that I'm not aware of. I have a background in software development, so the only solution that I can think of is writing a small program myself that does all the parsing for me and creates separate text files that contain all the orders and payments and other events that have been logged in the file. Then I could simply import each file into the table I need all the data in. So to sum everything up, my main question is if there is a way to somehow parse the text file before importing it. I know that you can create custom scripts in FileMaker but I'm not sure if what I need to do can be done just with that. Thanks in advance, Mike

  12. I would like to see if anyone could help me to verify if the problem I am having is a bug in Filemaker. I have recently upgraded my network from Filemaker 13 to 14. In 13 I did not experience this issue. It seems that in Filemaker 14, when a particular Hindi character is pasted into a Filemaker field it crashes the database. I have tested this on numerous machines within my network with the same result. I am hoping that someone will run this simple test for me and report back if it happened to them as well. I just need someone to create a database, create one text field. Create a new record and paste this Hindi character in that field. Then do a find and place your cursor in that field. At this point the database should crash. If anyone can confirm this I would love to know, thanks! Hindi character: क्स्ड (I will also attach a text file with the Hindi character in case something messes up when I post this...) hinid_error.txt

  14. Hi, I am very new to using ScriptMaster and have run into some problems when trying to run a few test lines of java. I am trying to create a module that will modify AcroFields on a PDF document, and am therefore going to be using the iText library. I have added this in the Jar Libraries section. Here is the script I am trying to run: import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfDocument; import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfWriter; import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfReader; import com.itextpdf.forms.PdfAcroForm; //Initialize PDF document PdfDocument pdf = new PdfDocument(new PdfReader("C:/Users/Andy/Desktop/VA_Form.pdf"), new PdfWriter("C:/Users/Andy/Desktop/New_VA_Form.pdf")); PdfAcroForm form = PdfAcroForm.getAcroForm(pdf, true); and I am getting this error when attempting to run the script: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/itextpdf/layout/element/BlockElement Parameters: {data="my custom data"} ---Script--- Script: import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfDocument; import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfWriter; import com.itextpdf.kernel.pdf.PdfReader; import com.itextpdf.forms.PdfAcroForm; //Initialize PDF document PdfDocument pdf = new PdfDocument(new PdfReader("C:/Users/Andy/Desktop/VA_Form.pdf"), new PdfWriter("C:/Users/Andy/Desktop/New_VA_Form.pdf")); PdfAcroForm form = PdfAcroForm.getAcroForm(pdf, true); return "true!"; I am not sure how the classpath works in ScriptMaster, but assumed it was to do with this? I have four additional libraries (Itext7-Forms-7.0.0.Jar, Itext7-Io-7.0.0.Jar, Itext7-Kernel-7.0.0.Jar, Itext7-Pdfa-7.0.0.Jar). Any help is much appreciated, I am really stuck and can't seem to find any help in previous posts. Thanks

  16. Hello all So I'm pretty new to Filemaker and CWP - I have created a form which people fill out and it stores the data in a filemaker solution. The idea being a script is then run which will notify a user if the form has been submitted. Now I have the script for that and all the Filemaker side completed, as well as the data entry from the PHP form, but I am really struggling with running a script with a parameter... It runs the script, but not the parameter attached. For a bit of context, Someone fills out the form and it is entered into the database, a script is then called with the parameter being an ID, the script then checks the ID with the parameter ID and then sends a notification to the user with the details from the record where the IDs match... but it will not pass the ID parameter into the script from the web application. Here is my script require_once ('FileMaker.php'); $fm = new FileMaker(); $fm->setProperty('database', 'comms__web'); $fm->setProperty('hostspec', 'http://192.168.X.XXX'); $fm->setProperty('username', 'web'); $fm->setProperty('password', 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX'); $newPerformScript = $fm->newPerformScriptCommand('Web','TestScript','test'); $result = $newPerformScript->execute(); Please help me out here... Been trying to research this issue and nowhere really actually helps. Cheers Jack

  22. San Diego, CA - April 12, 2016 - Productive Computing, Inc., a Platinum member of the FileMaker Business Alliance, is proud to announce the release of Vessel Service Solutions (VSS) version 2. This vertical solution was designed for the marine assistance industry and operates as a virtual command center to manage vessel assistance orders. VSS version 2 offers additional features and modules, a completely redesigned UI, and improved processes for users. What is VSS? VSS was built with a “paperless and efficient” philosophy and allows users to fully digitalize the entire tow order process from beginning to end. As soon as distress calls are received, dispatchers have the ability to send mobile orders straight from the office to in-field captains. The captain receives the order on an iPad and, after assisting the boater, updates and submits the order to dispatch for final processing. VSS also allows invoices and items to be pushed directly to QuickBooks via the FM Books Connector. What's New? VSS version 1 provided companies with a customizable framework they could employ to achieve a paperless solution. Version 2 has been crafted with industry input and takes the entire tow order process to the next level by offering the user a truly comprehensive solution. Dispatch can send, receive, and submit orders for payment without printing a single document. Using FileMaker Go, captains can receive, update, and send orders from their iPads. They can even perform data entry while at sea without an internet connection. Version 2 has expanded functionality to allow users to maintain fuel logs, maintenance logs, maintenance schedules, time sheets, and pull various reports. As with most FileMaker products, this solution allows for customization, including the ability to personalize all terms, disclaimers, notes and signature requirements, company information, tower ID, and company logo in the modules. "We're quite excited about the new and improved VSS, because this dynamic solution enables users to efficiently and digitally dispatch, track, and manage tow orders, eliminating the need for time-consuming paperwork, resulting in improved accuracy and turnaround time. We've had a lot of support from industry leaders, and we're pleased to be delivering something we think will continue to greatly help the boat towing industry" - Marc Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer, Productive Computing, Inc. 23. In my view, in the world of FileMaker Server the concerns of owners and admin with FMS11 and earlier are little different to those of FMS14 admins today. Yes, the product has developed and we now have the new appearance layer from 12 onwards, and WebDirect from 13 on. But, the underlying issue remains, how do you get to understand FileMaker Server and get the best out of it, when it is trivial to build a very "bad" FM solution that is slow and unscaleable and when FMI provides no comprehensive and clear advice? FM software does little to prevent folk using the freedom of FM in that manner, because as an "enabling" and "accessible" type of software it lacks the controls, the digital police, that a more prescriptive system may include. It also works very hard to keep users of legacy systems on-board and supported and their solutions inevitably include much that would regarded as poor design today and hence cannot easily deprecate old techniques, so FMI's options are limited. Hence my having been developing a "mobile first" design framework since April 2012, and having eventually worked out what does work, I was encouraged by various folk to develop my report on "Understanding and Tuning FileMaker Server Performance" and publish. I have also published an early version of part of the report here on FMHacks and done two videos for Richard Carlton Consulting here and here which cover some of the report material. My work has been validated by folk at FMI (who wish to remain anonymous), Wim Decorte, Richard Carlton and Alan Stirling. This is the first detailed and comprehensive report on this subject for many years, you can read it here and download a pdf here. Many of the techniques I have developed, and to which the report alludes, are included in the free and open source Deskspace dsBenchmark tool, which can be downloaded from here. I would encourage your responses, and disagreement, if you feel so moved. We all move forward by rigorously testing both the old and the new and no doubt you can offer improvements and additions to what I have constructed. Where I am persuaded, your input will be included in the ongoing Report and duly credited. The current version of my Report is of course the html pages on deskspace.com, not a dead paper document. In fact wasn't that what Sir Tim Berners-Lee had in mind when he invented and donated http, html and the World Wide Web? This ease of editing is facilitated by our new Deskspace rwApp creating the responsive web pages that comprise www.deskspace.com - but that is perhaps another story. Cheers, Nick
  24. Hi everyone, I am new here. I just began working with a project that has been using FileMaker Server 9 and Pro 9. The current architecture uses one machine deployment but the machine is quite ancient and doesn't support any micro-frameworks that eases my web development duties. I wanted to split this architecture to a multi machine deployment this ancient machine having only the Database, another better machine having a webserver and/or a web publishing engine. The reasoning behind this being that I can use a webserver(Gunicorn + Flask) and use PyFileMaker to obtain my data from the DB using XML. I, however, realize that the web publishing engine is required at the database to publish my XML data which in turn requires a web server running(apache). This goes back to the same one machine deployment. Am I missing a point here? Thank you so much for taking your time to read this. It would be truly awesome if you could help me with this question. Thank you once again and have a good day. Regards, Arjun
