  1. Hello there, Is there a way to download the mirrorsync link directly on an iPad? In my final workflow I'll send the link with the newest version and users will open it directly from the ipad. Is there any integration with even other 3rd parties software to download the file on the ipad and then run it from Filemaker? Thanks.

    Being unsatisfied with solutions I found on the internet and wanting a solution without plugin I created a set of custom functions that can read a path out of a json-string. Syntax: json_path ( json-string ; path ) examples: json_path( $user_prefs ; "Privileges/Modules" ) json_path( $json_data ; "Menus/Menu[10]/MenuItem[5]/Label" )

  3. San Diego, CA - April 12, 2016 - Productive Computing, Inc., a Platinum member of the FileMaker Business Alliance, is proud to announce the release of Vessel Service Solutions (VSS) version 2. This vertical solution was designed for the marine assistance industry and operates as a virtual command center to manage vessel assistance orders. VSS version 2 offers additional features and modules, a completely redesigned UI, and improved processes for users. What is VSS? VSS was built with a “paperless and efficient” philosophy and allows users to fully digitalize the entire tow order process from beginning to end. As soon as distress calls are received, dispatchers have the ability to send mobile orders straight from the office to in-field captains. The captain receives the order on an iPad and, after assisting the boater, updates and submits the order to dispatch for final processing. VSS also allows invoices and items to be pushed directly to QuickBooks via the FM Books Connector. What's New? VSS version 1 provided companies with a customizable framework they could employ to achieve a paperless solution. Version 2 has been crafted with industry input and takes the entire tow order process to the next level by offering the user a truly comprehensive solution. Dispatch can send, receive, and submit orders for payment without printing a single document. Using FileMaker Go, captains can receive, update, and send orders from their iPads. They can even perform data entry while at sea without an internet connection. Version 2 has expanded functionality to allow users to maintain fuel logs, maintenance logs, maintenance schedules, time sheets, and pull various reports. As with most FileMaker products, this solution allows for customization, including the ability to personalize all terms, disclaimers, notes and signature requirements, company information, tower ID, and company logo in the modules. "We're quite excited about the new and improved VSS, because this dynamic solution enables users to efficiently and digitally dispatch, track, and manage tow orders, eliminating the need for time-consuming paperwork, resulting in improved accuracy and turnaround time. We've had a lot of support from industry leaders, and we're pleased to be delivering something we think will continue to greatly help the boat towing industry" - Marc Larochelle, Chief Executive Officer, Productive Computing, Inc. 6. We operate a FileMaker-based event registration system that communicates with a SQL back end. Our customer will be using it for two demo tours they are running, 1 in France and 1 in Germany. Both tours run from April 2016 – June 2016. They have their events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we are looking for help providing on-call phone support during their European hours of operation. I don’t have their exact event schedule yet, but each tour will have 8-10 stops – occupying most weekends April - June. The tour staff speaks English. Preregistration records are downloaded from the SQL back end before the team departs from their hotel for the day. On site, they connect the (PC) laptop which hosts the FM12 database to a wireless router. They connect up to 6 iPads to the wireless router and open the FM database using FM Go. If they’re going to have trouble, it’s usually at the start of the day – not a great time for a US-based company to support a European client. And it’s usually at the start of the tour, while they work on getting the routine down. If this is something that you or the company you work for could help us with, please send me an email combining my username here with the domain printcomm.com. Thanks, Jim
  7. I have an application that works fine with all supported browsers and OS's but I experience problems with the latest Chrome 40.0.2214.69 update on the iPad. In particular, input disappears from a scrolling text box when focus is moved off the textbox to a new input field or button. This isn't a problem with Safari on the iPad, I tried erasing/reinstalling Chrome and I have played with the browser settings. Any ideas?
  8. From time to time, I'm asked to restore a backup of a single fmp12 file on my Filemaker Server 13 installation. Up until now, I've been going into FMS Web Control Panel, closing the file, downloading the current file, downloading the latest backup file (every two hours, a backup is done), deleting the current file, and reuploading the backed up file using the "Share" button in Filemaker Pro 13 on my Mac at the office. This procedure isn't very sophisticated, and is really just for occasional use. I've been thinking about how the same result can be achieved by logging onto the FMS Server's Mac command line via SSH, something I can already do from my iPad. This would be an improvement if possible, because I could do it anywhere, and it would be quick as it doesn't require any uploading or downloading. Suppose I did something like this: 1) SSH in as unpriv user. 2) cd /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Backups/Daily_2014-11-11_2300/Databases/GroupName 3) Login to FMS web control panel 4) Close the fmp12 file I intend to replace with a recently backed up copy, say MyDatabase.fmp12 5) Back on SSH, cp /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/GroupName/MyDatabase.fmp12 ~/Desktop/MyDatabase-removed.fmp12 5a) Not sure if I need to delete MyDatabase.fmp12 in FMS web control panel also 6) sudo cp ./MyDatabase.fmp12 /Library/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/GroupName/ 7) Re-open the fmp12 file in FMS web control panel done? By the way, I have considered having a copy of Filemaker Pro 13 on the server too, but I'd rather not use up a license just for this. (Although I imagine uploading from Pro13 to FMS on localhost would be super-fast)
  9. I need to segregate some FMGo13 files with the same names into separate folders by date, and then move db files into those folders. I use Disk Aid for the transfers. Can this be done? Thanks.
  10. Hello - I've hired an idiot. I mean - I hired this guy to manage our stock control and ensure that when a customer orders a product, the product is popped in a box and despatched out to the right address. Unfortunately the person I hired to complete this task was an idiot. We already have a neat FileMaker CRM solution for customers - so I figured I'd build a neat little stock control FileMaker database to help our new employee. I admit - I took it a little far. I drew some lines and made some calculations that would rotate and expand the lines to emulate code 39 barcodes so that I could run the filemaker database without having to install fonts. I drew some neat little layouts with photographs of the products, and when manufacturing finished a production run you could enter the number of products produced and the database would create the equivalent number of labels with the barcode on them, format them to print on a standard label sheet, and print the number of labels equivalent to the amount of stock produced. Even if you you printed say 5 labels from an avery label sheet of 8 - you could tell the stock control system to start at the 6th label in and it would work perfectly. We then took an old original iPad, popped a barcode reader into an iPad to USB adapter and let our idiot scan the barcodes as stock was despatched or brought in to update the system. I though it worked really well allowing all the folks that used the database to keep track of the amount of stock we had. The whole thing ran wireless, seamlessly integrated, it was beautiful. I mean - it was almost idiot proof. Only - as the old saying goes "A database is only as useful as the information in it), and it turns out the idiot wasn't using this iPad and scanning solution and instead filled his days looking at the internet on the iPad. So while idiot boy is browsing the internet on company time it was decided to upgrade our CRM solution from FileMaker 11 to FileMaker 12. This was for a totally separate reason relating to our CRM database. All the files were essentially updated from FP7 files to FMP12 files. Everything was working from a front office perspective (apart from our storeman who was reading the internet on company time). Anyway - roll forwards a few months, it turns out idiot boy is having extramarital affairs with another employee, he's been getting her to do his work, so she's been manually adjusting the stock on her computer, in a slightly related sense, our customers weren't receiving the products they had ordered, it was all being covered up, but thankfully the problem has now gone, and we are free from idiot boy. In his absence I decided I'd complete a full stock check. The problem I have is that the iPad and scanner combo still works great. The problem is that as he wasn't using the system, so the iPad still has FileMaker 11 Go installed on it, which won't allow us to open FMP12 files. I mean seriously - if the guy was even pretending to work he'd have at least updated the software so he could look busy! So - I need to install FileMaker Go 12 on the iPad. Which isn't available on the app store. But - I could install FileMaker Go 13 which will open FMP12 files on the iPad. But - it won't work on iOS 5.1.1. So I could ask for a copy of FileMaker Go 12 from FileMaker but they tell me that they can't supply this to me. So… I'm wondering if there is another way? I'm currently thinking about asking a friend if they have an original FileMaker Go.app file and seeing if they would send me a copy of this to try and install onto the company iPad. I feel fairly justified in this as the original software was distributed free on the app store and I paid for FileMaker Go 11. Alternatively - I'm thinking of buying a cheap iPad 2 / 3 on Ebay which will solve the problem but will set me back a fair chunk of cash which could probably be better spent. Anyway - if anyone has any thoughts that they would like to share I would be very grateful. Also - please don't hire idiots, you spend so much time trying to clean up afterwards you're better off holding out for an intelligent and considerate person to work alongside.
  11. Hi, reading through the different approaches to timers for elapsed time capturing, I cannot seem to find the right lead or approach: For a quiz scenario on an Ipad, I would like to press start that triggers a timer to start counting up the seconds. While they are visibly running, the user will perform a quiz and answer questions, switching layouts. When he is finished he will press stop and the used time (the one displayed on screen) is saved. Any leads how this could be done? My head is spinning on the thought of a javascript count up of seconds... Thank you!
  12. I've found Google Chrome for iOS works much better than the default Safari iPad browser when accessing FileMaker Server Admin Control Panel.
  13. I thought I'd post this here since I'm primarily attempting to get this working on an iPhone & FMGO12. I'm trying to run a script during "OnLayoutSizeChange" using the "Get (WindowOrientation)". Basically, if the orientation on the iPhone changes, it should change to the appropriate layout. What am I missing here? If [Get ( SystemPlatform ) = 3] Set Zoom Level [100%] Refresh Window [] If [Get (WindowOrientation) < 0] Go to Layout ["iPhone 4 Landscape"] Else Go to Layout ["iPhone 4 Portrait"] End If Else Go to Layout ["Data Entry - MBP"] End If
  14. I have a FM Go13 database that requires me to print a report. I've scripted the print routing with both a page setup and print command. In the print command I request a PDF be created. I understand, after reading the FM 13 user manual that FM GO doesn't support creation of a PDF format. Is there any way that I can create a document that can be emailed? The mobile users won't have any access to a local printer. Without a PDF type solution, the database is really compromised
  15. As I've been marveled at the little size of my knowledge and at the willingness to help available in this forum, I'd like to make a simple question that, although not totally fmp, is going to help on it. I have a database of read articles. My articles are stored completely, and I highlight portions of them. "Comment", from this forum, helped my way out on implementing background color in it, using a GetAsCss (full link: http://fmforums.com/forum/topic/90644-workflow-fromtext-color-to-highlighted-background-incl-print/), and it was amazing, but I want one more thing yet. I'd like to know what is the easiest way to highlight something in a usable way to fmp. When I was unfamiliar with databases, and stored my articles as pdfs, I used to highlight them on uPad for iPad (which is very useful, btw). But, now, this solution does not fit my needs anymore, as I store my articles in a database. What I want, in short, is to know the best way to highlight something. In fmp, I made some scripts that change the color of the selected text (which work pretty well), but I would get Repetitive strain injury from all the click, select, cmd+1. In the iPad, I could use a stylus and just use it as a pen. What I thought would be possible is some sort of app that allowed me to easily tag parts of a .doc or .txt. Then, I could import it to fmp and script it to make as I'd like. But is there an app for that? Outline for iPad does a great job on the highlighting (you draw a line, it identifies the words selected and highlight it), but it doesn't meet my needs, specially considering that it doesn't support my full articles. Idea was to read on the go in the iPad and later put all in the fmp. Maybe I couldn't make myself clear. I have the scripts to change the selection, or to tag, or to do anything I want with a mouse and keyboard. What I'd like is a way to apply the script in the iPad (maybe there is something in fmgo that I'm missing), in a more easy-to-use way (like, pass the stylus/finger over and it gets the correct tags. thanks for all the help and attention.
  16. Hi, I have a database which contains many photos. These photos are stored in my Dropbox, and are linked to the database through a container (only the reference is stored). On my MacBook Pro, no problem. But if I open my database on my iPhone (the database is hosted in the cloud by a provider), the link to the photo is, of course, dead. How could I create another link (in another field) or script, to open the photo directly in the Dropbox app on my iPhone ? One solution would be to store in the database the Dropbox URL for each photo and open it in the Web viewer but it is not very handy as each photo has then to be downloaded each time it is opened. Any idea on how to use the Dropbox app from Filemaker Go ? Thank you, Arth
  17. Hi Guys, I've built a iPad registration kiosk for a client at his business place. Everything seems to be working just fine, but on the last step to complete the registration I need the iPad to print the registration out for the back office. That also works fine, but the Print Dialog box on ipad is un-avoidable according to FileMaker Go Documentation. This dialog throws off most customers and hinders the registration process. I need to find some type of work around for this so customers are not prompted with the print dialog. Also, my client doesn't want to have to have to print manually print each registration from the desktop interface in the back office. This should be automatic. I thought of some server-side scheduled script, but the server is remote, so it won't be able to get to the printer without some type of constant VPN connection to my customer's site. Too much overhead. This seems like too much overhead to maintain. Is there any client-side scheduled scripts? Any other ideas would be great. Thanks!

What is GoZync GoZync is the easiest way to sync your offline FileMaker Go files. Bolt GoZync on to your mobile files and you can push and pull data knowing that you have reliable transactions doing the work begind the scenes. And since GoZync is built solely in FileMaker Pro (no plugins or 3rd party stuff) you can get in there and change the sync to match your workflow. We built GoZync for FileMaker developers: and we know that you'll keep changing things after you deploy--that your mobile and hosted code will diverge over time. So GoZync makes it easy to distribute new versions of your files with in-app updates your users will love. Faster Deployment = Happier Developers The new GoZync makes a lot of things easier for developers. And you can take advantage of this update by just changing a few scripts in GoZync. Instructions for updating your existig deployments can be found here: GoZync change log. Backstory If you're interetsed in what actually sped this up, check out our blog post on this speed bump. Like many things, we started out working on a different solution. But we broke some stuff, fell into play-mode, then got interested in the problem but unintereted in the outcome. Enjoy!
  21. Hello, I am running Filemaker pro advanced 12 on windows 7 I have been searching allover the internet for an answer to this question but i can seem to find exactly what i am looking for. I am now using forums as my only hope. I am really new at all this and I am presently working on a project for a client. Basically, I am trying to create a video database for a production company that will allow every computer in the office to acces, add, remove and download different videos within a database that i have created in our server. I have developed the database template but I am having problems with reading videos from the other computers. After importing the video files in the file container (on the server) i can read without any problem the videos on the server. BUT, on the other computers and the Filemaker go apps, after opening a remote connexion, in the container field, it is written '' This file cannot be found''. I am pretty sure this has something to do with a misuse of the new features of the remote file containers but what options exactly do i need to enable in order to acces and read the videos from other computers, ipads or ipods. Is this problem because of the fact that i am not using filemaker server which im pretty sure allows streaming, unlike FM pro advanced 12. 22. Hi! I have FileMaker Go on iPad. And i want to make a system to register time when workers in our company come. When they come to ipad they need to tap a button on ipad screen - with their name and then a front camera make a shot of them. That's meen that they come to work. So, i need no menus while taping a button "come" - but on FileMaker Go appears menu with choice camera, audio, signuter etc. But i don't need it. I need only front camera. What can be solution to except this menu. And make a photo just on on a click? Thank u very much.
  23. Ok, before I burn thru lots of time (as I've already spent a couple hours...), I was hoping someone may KNOW if you can do peer-to-peer between iPads (3 is the goal) on a closed wifi network (no internet connection)...? AND, if so, could I set it up so that at each iPad a user can log in to show only certain layouts...? Basically, I'm aiming for a mobilized menu/prep ordering system: Cashier + Order Prep Queue + Delivery Queue TIA for any insights
  24. I'm having some trouble with lengthy pop-up menus not displaying properly on the iPad. The dimensions on the iPad allow for ~21 choices to show at a time in landscape mode, and ~29 in portrait. For menus shorter than these lengths the values appear instantly when the menu is selected. For 2-3 pages of values the first page appears immediately and then subsequent values fill in after a delay, but for more than that (getting up into 60-100+ values) only the first page shows and subsequent pages are blank until you select one of the available values, after which the rest appear. It is driving me crazy and I can't seem to determine why it's not working properly. Hopefully this explanation makes sense. I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thanks! Justin
