  1. Hey, I want to use the same header on all my layouts in FileMaker Pro 15 Advanced but I can't seem to find a way to accomplish it. I read on Google and other forums that there is no way to do it, however the posts I found are all at least a year or two old. Did they add a way to do it in FileMaker 15 or do I still need to duplicate a layout to get the same header on a different one? Thanks in advance, Mike
  2. I'm brand new to Filemaker. I'm trying to figure out how to make a left menu area that will appear in all of my layouts for navigation purposes. To switch from layout to layout easily for the user when my application goes live. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but from what I'm reading, it looks like it may not be. Would there be a way to split a layout into two vertical sections, the left one being the menu (which I can duplicate on every layout if necessary, though that would be a pain), and the right area where the actual program interactions appear? I'm so new that I'm not even what the correct terminology is. Thanks!
  3. In this article we show how you can build a button bar to become the main navigation bar for your solution, and how it can be abstracted as much as possible so it can be pasted across multiple layouts. We also cover some of the limitations that using a button bar will present. Click here to read the full article
  4. Hello all, I have been trying to create a layout with a Portal interface that mimics a typical online shopping interface. I have created a layout that has a 9x9 grid of single row portals to display the possible buyer choices. Each single row portal has the initial row starting at the next incremental value (1,2,3,4 and so on). This works great except when the possible choices are less than nine but causes the following problems when the choices are more than the 9 portals. 1. I need to create a way to to select the next set of possible choices for when the possible choices exceed 9. I was planning to use arrow buttons on the bottom to scroll to the next set of items. I have tried using Go to portal row to change the displayed record but since there is only one row that didn't work. There doesn't seem to be a way to change the initial portal row by a script. 2. I need to figure out a way to calculate the total number of records that match the filtered result so the navigation buttons will only work (or show) when there are more than 9 choices. 3. Was hoping to find a away to hide portals when there is no record present. So if there were 6 options available the remaining three portals would be hidden. I have attached a screen shot of layout. Hoping i can get some help or direction on where to begin. Thanks portal.tiff
  5. I use a main menu layout to navigate through the various tables and layouts with buttons. I'm trying to write a script that will ask if a window with a certain name is open, then go to it, or if not then run a script I have to open a new window and go to a particular layout. Trying to prevent having multiple windows open with the same table/layout. Any suggestions. Thanks.
  6. next record...

I am using FM 12 v 3 (even if v3 is buggy)  I have a main layout based on Members:   On the left is another Members TOC called Members Portal  Everything works great.... except that when I press the right (or left) 'next record' arrows, FM goes to the next Record ID and not to the next Member's Name.  Here is the script I am using: (pretty simple)   Question: "How can I, regardless of recordID, advance to the next 'Member Name' and not next RecordID?  I am almost embarassed by what should be a pretty simple and common situation... but I am stumped. Can someone give me a 'kick start'?  Thanks
  7. Navigation Menu

Hi! This is my first post, I'll try not to bother u with stupid questions! (I hope this is the place for this question) I m developing my very first FM application! It s going quite slow but I m making some progress. My question is the following: I m hiding status bar so I have no way to navigate between layers. Therefore, I m decided to create my own navigator menu (kind of custom menu). 1) I would like to make it dynamic (just in case I need to add a new layer). For this purpose, I m quite sure I have to create my menu using the DB, so that, I'd be able to modify the menu by adding a new record in my table. (Please, correct me If I am wrong). 2) I'm trying to make a two levels menu. I have no idea how to solve this problem. For instance: Initial state... Menu 1 Menu 2 Menu 3 After clicking Menu 2... Menu 1 Menu 2 Submenu 1 Submenu 2 Menu 3 I know it's possible because I saw it in one FM app. 3) Do I need to copy the menu to all the layers or I could create the menu in a specific part of the layer (such as head) and it will automatically copied to all the layers. I know this is not the default behavior, but I expect that perhaps there is a way to do it! Of course I'm not expecting to get how to implement all this stuff. I just need to know if I'm right in what I'm thinking. (Hints are more than welcome) Thats all! I know it is a huge question. Thank u in advance.
  8. Producing Pretty Portal Pagination

Navigation of portals in FileMaker is a pretty simple affair, you either have a scrollbar, or you don't. In this article we demonstrate another way to navigate portals using a pagination style. We also demonstrate how it can be implemented at the relationship level, or the portal level using filtering. Read the Full Article Here…
  9. In part one, we built a basic navigation bar made from repeating fields. In this followup article we take the formatting of the navigation bar further by introducing highlights. We also adjust the construction of the navigation, and introduce a custom menu implementation that can be used in conjunction with, or in place of the navigation bar. Read the Full Article Here…
  10. Integrating Image Maps in FileMaker

In this article I demonstrate how you can use image maps with web viewers in FileMaker. In doing so, you can display images that, when clicked, can report the coordinate chosen back to FileMaker to handle in whichever manner you wish… Read the Full Article Here…
