  1. Sanity check here...I want to use a popover with a portal to help a user select from a long list of choices in Find Mode. Apparently, I cannot do that. I've tried to populate a global in the parent table and use a relationship with the global on the left to display related children in the portal. Nothing shows. I then switched to a virtual list of choices where the $$vlist is populated by SQL. $$vlist has data..portal shows nothing. Is Find Mode unable to use such a technique? I did follow Kevin Frank's tutorial on conditional value lists in Find Mode. That works wonderfully, except my first popup is too long -- really need that picker!
  2. Hi, Is there a way to have popover button within a popover button? when I have tried this and double click to open it in layout mode the tool options open but not the button itself. Can anyone help or advice me what I am doing wrong?
  3. Hi, I’m really Stuck , any suggestions would be most appreciated. Problem : I need to replicate a particular behavior of the PopOver that is inside a Portal. Behavior: When inserting or editing portal Rows via popOvers, the data updates in the portal before “committing”. Solution: Trying to replicate this behavior according to this rules: -. Using Transactions and Data modeling. .- Data not updated at the portal before committing (refreshing portal by trigger or exiting a field doesn't work). .- Data not updated at the portal as inserts or edits are been made (same as above). .- Inserts or Edits are made outside the portal in the same layout (no modals, Using SlideControl). .- Not using PopOvers inside portal. .- Portal is not accesible by user it only shows the list of items been inserted or updated. I have tried different approaches but no solution yet, trying to replicate behavior has been very frustrating. Tried: Filtered Single Line portals and Magic Key with different Techniques and different relationship approaches, I have not tried Globals via Scripts which I presume could be a solution but don’t have much to start with!!!. For the record: A few months ago I started implementing “Selector Conector and Transactions”, I´m not so sure I have correctly implemented this. I have prepared a Sample file (is not the actual solution) with very simple use of Transactions and Data Modeling, it shows different approaches I have tried. Used some technics learned here at this forum which have been very helpful. Approaches number 1 and number 2 from the Sample file are not the preferred, but merely show the behavior I´m trying to replicate. A script at start creates small window that shows records are been created in child's table even tough it won’t update the portal before commiting when using technics 3 and 4 from the Sample file. Hope my explanation makes any sense. Thanks in advance, and cheers to all PS.: Check the green Framed Portal at the right hand side of the layout´s Sample file for a cool technique that I designed, it uses “Hide Object when”, and a combination of formatting the Button and portal row (Padding), which makes the illusion of an X circle appearing on the right side when Hovering portal rows, mostly used for deleting. Hope any one has a use for it.
  4. Hi in my solution my customer has a list of all its projects in a portal. the portal row is a popover button where it displays limited related information to that project to the customer. i want to create a button in the popover which would fire an email requesting more information about the project. However i run into a problem , i tried to set varaible of the customer and project howeever of the project it does not capture the correct one just any / the first project created. How would i get my button to capture the correct project related in that poover button?
  5. I think I have a relationship problem here even though the problem appears to be with the Portal or Popover. As you can see from Screenshot1, the popover is showing the data for the wrong record. Interestingly, clicking the Go to Full Record button which calls Go To Related Record does go to the correct record as indicated in the Portal. This is also happening with the Siblings Portal, see Screenshot2. However, the Go to Full Record button on siblings portal behaving differently - it is going to the record showing in the popover which is the same record being display. So it goes nowhere of course. The Relations screenshot shows the relevant relationships as well as the more complicated one I am using to get the siblings. On the Parents layout I am doing the same thing - showing Students via the Parents_Students and Related Parents and the popovers are working fine. Let me know if you need more data. - Brad
  6. Hello peeps, I'm just getting to grips with Filemaker 14, skipped 13 so this is the first time I've had the opportunity to play with the popovers which I've been much looking forward to. I have to admit that I'm a little surprised that data entry hasn't been made much easier with the advent of popovers. Creating a data entry interface is certainly easier and looks good too, but the process of entering new record criteria and confirming or cancelling the process is much the same. Currently I use global fields to place on a popover and when data entry is confirmed scripts will: Copy the entered data to a new record, field by fieldClear all global fields used for entryor Cancel and clear global fieldsHowever this takes more script writing the more fields you have and can be approached in many different ways from a control perspective. Before I was doing this, I instinctively wanted to do away with the global 'Entry' fields mirroring actual data fields and instead; create a new record when launching a data entry popover, the fields are probably the same as those already on the layout but only the new blank record has focus, and the new procedure be: Commit recordor Cancel and delete recordThis would, at least in some scenarios be suitable and requires less development overhead because cancelling requires only that the record is deleted and the committing is already done by the user (as long as the record isn't cancelled or validation fails...). ...Yet you can't do this using popovers. Creating a record cancels a popover, end of. The button that launches a popover can't be set to create a record either so I'm stuck with my old methods. Does this actually bother many people? I thought this would be a common functional desire but haven't found much to read on data entry approaches in Filemaker ...what alternative approaches do other people use? Lee
  7. I have a db with two tables: 1) Company_info 2) Contact_info. I would like the ability to create new contacts while in the Company_info table. I set up a popover button in the Company_info table to do that, but it only creates a new record in the Contact_info table without any related data. When using it to create a new record in the Contact_info table I can't figure out how to make it copy over the "Company_name" field to the new record in the Contact_info table. The two tables were set up with a one to many relationship connecting the two IDs. (The first ID value is "Comp0001" for the Company table and "Con0001" for the Contacts table). All attempts to use "Insert Calculated Result" to move over the data in the "Company_name" have failed.
  8. I have been playing around with Popovers the past couple weeks. I really, really want to get 14 running, if for no other reason than Popovers. Encountered some strange behavior in Portal Rows, but I haven't documented that yet. What I noticed most, though, was the ability to put Popovers on Popovers. Seemed a little too good to be true. As such, I have never been able to add any functionality to the second level Popover. It allows me to create it, but I can't even put a single script step on it. I can understand not allowing multi-level at this point. Odd that we can create the second level & not be able to do anything with it. Quite possible that I am missing something though. Anybody else try the multi-level Popovers?
  9. Hi, How to create new record from the popover button? I have customer layout which has City field with drop down selection, I want to create a popover button beside so that user can instantly add city incase the city is not listed on the dropdown list. It has table relationship as well. One to many relationship with One for City Table ( CityID - Primary Key) and Many for Customer Table ( CityID - foreign key). Please advice, Thank you.
  10. I've noticed that some of my popovers get what appears to be a kind of loading bar at the bottom when they are opened. It appears for just about 1 second and then disappears. However, not all popovers display this. I thought it might have something to do with the client caching data that is being displayed in the popover, but even that is inconsistent. I have popovers that are displaying portals (something you would expect to have some indexing delay) and they don't get the bar. Then popovers that are simply displaying local table data will have one. It's obviously not a huge issue, but as someone who is a bit anal about the look of layouts, every time I open up particular popovers my brain says "What is that bar?!" **edit** I have also noticed that if you mouse over that bar before it disappears, it does not disappear.
  11. Hi, I've assembled a database of soldiers who died during WW1 (it was begun using Appleworks on a IIe, just to give an idea of exactly how long it's been in construction). For using the database with Filemaker Go on iPad / iPhone, I want to simplify some of the Find requests to allow only the use of checkboxes and buttons. This would be useful when 'in the field' at the actual battlefield and in the associated cemeteries, for on the spot information regarding the soldiers, as well as for details of the military actions, etc. that occurred there. I want to place a Field in checkbox format - for examle 'Force' (indicates the country of origin) inside a Popover, and have the User able to select one or more options by tapping on the appropriate checkbox/es, then carry out the search. I've spent the day looking around for solutions, and feel I'm just not getting it. I haven't had a lot of experience with scripting, but realise that's at least partly where the answer is. What I'd really appreciate would be a step-by-step explanation of how this sort of thing is usually done, as I don't believe I'm the only person ever to have tried it. Thanks for any assistance. Regards, Bryn
  12. Is there a way to make a popover open with a script? I see a "Close Popover" script step, but I don't see one for opening a popover. I'm trying to make a window pop up for creating a new record when someone clicks on a link in the Virtual List Sidebar Menu I've got going. Maybe I'm supposed to just use a floating window for that? I want a window where someone clicks in the menu, the window pops up, and they have to deal with it – either filling out the form, or cancelling – before they can move on with anything else. I'm thinking maybe it can't be done because...where you going to stick the popover in layout mode? But if I can't do that, what's next? Floating window? Modal window? Thanks, in advance, for any input. -- Rick Horowitz Filemaker n00b
  13. Lets say: T1: customers T2: invoices In the customers layout I have a portal in a popover showing their respcetive invoices (ones paid, others unpaid). What I want to accomplish is (using conditional format for example), to show a tag about the state of the invoices, but only works for the state of the first row. Is it posible to do it for all the rows? I mean, someting like: all paid, none paid, or SOME paid (if there are a few paid but other few not). Thanks for your help. I attach a sample file to show what I'm trying to explain.
  14. I'm a newbie and would like to use a a popover in the same way that I have been using windows in the past. I'm confused as to how to do this if the data I need is from a related table/record. Here is an example of a window that I would rather turn into a popover: In this the window is a new layout from a related table (That's actually a related table from an "external data source"). It would create a new record based on information from the originating record: New Window[] Go to Layout ["Event Details Admin Sui" (SampleEvents)] Show/Hide Status Area [Hide] Adjust Window [Resize to Fit] Enter Find Mode[] Set Field [sampleEvents::Event ID; Get(ScriptParameter)] Perform Find[] Set WIndow Title [Current Window; New Title: SampleEvents::Zulu Summary] Set Variable [$from_suical; Value:1] Thanks in advance for any help on this matter!
  15. Hi There, Â I am totally new to Filemaker but have a bit of experience making Access databases, My issue is as follows; Â I have two tables Subscriptions & Family Members, one ambulance subscription can have many family members covered. Â I have created a subscription layout with a portal to the family members in it, what I am trying to do is using a button popover add a new family member to the subscription. Â however when I add the popover and all the related fields inside it and create a button to add a new record, it first shows the family members already entered and when I click the add new record it adds a new subscription not a new family members. Â Best Regards Zeak
  16. Hi all Is anybody else having an issue where GTRR does not go to the relevant record when using a portal in a Popover accessed through WebDirect? This action is repeatable in a brand new file. Two tables A & B - Table A layout with a cartesian join to Table B to show all records. Create a portal on Layout for Table A and place a button in portal to GTRR. Now copy that portal inside a Popover object (so you have both on the layout - easier for testing). Host the file on Server 13 and access through a web browser using WebDirect. The portal outside the popover goes to the correct record you clicked on - the portal inside the popover goes to the first record in the relationship. Anyone else experienced this or have any thought / comments? Cheers Paul

  19. I have a layout for my Contacts, in list view. Each row contains the Contact Name and a POPOVER to edit the Contact information.  When the list is longer (beyond the iPhone 4s screen size), click the popover to edit, the title bar seems to slide up (see pics), and I see a single field fully, click 'next' and it scrolls to the next field... I am happy with that.   However, when the list does not exceed the iPhone 4s screen size, click the popover to edit, the title bar does not seem to slide up (see pics), and I am only able to see a portion of the field (which makes it difficult to type information in), click 'next' and it scrolls to the next field (again only allowing a portion of the field to be seen)... I am NOT happy with that.   Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to ensure that the field is fully visible, regardless of the length of the list?
