    Being unsatisfied with solutions I found on the internet and wanting a solution without plugin I created a set of custom functions that can read a path out of a json-string. Syntax: json_path ( json-string ; path ) examples: json_path( $user_prefs ; "Privileges/Modules" ) json_path( $json_data ; "Menus/Menu[10]/MenuItem[5]/Label" )

  2. Hi everyone, I've run into a problem that I'm having difficulty solving and am hoping that someone here can help. I'm working on a database that contains information about collared and released cheetahs: info such as location points (aka 'Fixes'), kills made by the animal, captures/releases of that animal, supplemental feedings, etc. One of the tables is titled 'Tracking Sessions' and receives a new record anytime that someone goes out to track (find) that animal in the field. I have a layout for Tracking Sessions that contains a portal to a table titled 'Tracking Notes' which contains all of the time-specific details that occur during any given tracking session. Each record within 'Tracking Notes' has a field called 'Visual' which is 'yes' (true) if the animal is physically seen during the time of this record and 'no' (false) if the animal is not seen. I'm not even sure it's possible, but what I'm struggling with is making every 'Tracking Notes' record that is true for 'Visual' to automatically be added to another table labeled 'Fix Data' and be automatically updated if the record is updated in the 'Tracking Notes' table via the portal in the 'Tracking Sessions' layout. I've tried using the 'magic key' method (which I've never used before and obviously don't fully understand) and records are created but it doesn't seem to work all the time and it doesn't update existing records when changes are made, it just creates duplicates with the updated info. If anyone has any ideas on how to accomplish what it is I'm trying to do, I'd really appreciate it. I've included an image here of my relationship graph and the relevant tables highlighted in varying colours. As you can see, I've created two new occurrences of 'Fix Data' so far. If I need to provide any further details or clarify anything please let me know.... I'm quite new to Filemaker. Thanks! Eli Walker
  3. This has been stumping me for a long time, and I am sure I am overlooking something incredibly simple. Hopefully I can explain this well enough.  I have a relationship between several tables (see example ).  Whenever a record is created in any of the three related tables (Table1, Table2, Table3), I want a new ExtraData record to be created with the same key as the record in the related table. I also want the userValue to be set to the value of a global variable I have $$curUserValue, only if the ExtraData::userValue is empty. If the ExtraData record exists, the ExtraData::userValue changes, AND the key changes, the ExtraData::userValue should just be updated.  Right now I have an onRecordCommit script on the three tables' layouts that creates a new ExtraData record with the current record's key, if such a record does not already exist. It also sets ExtraData::userValue = $$curUserValue. This works fine, but if the related table record's key changes, then a new ExtraData record is created with the new key and $$curUserValue. The problem here is if the ExtraData::userValue field has changed, along with the key, it gets overwritten with the original $$curUserValue.* I want to keep it the same as what it was before the key change.  There must be a much easier way to accomplish this, but the solutions escapes me. Any ideas?   *I am NOT concerned with the orphan records this creates, as I have a script to clean those up.
  4. Guys, The old guy trying to learn new tricks.. I am trying to devise a little help for a friend. The problem : A layout with a map pasted on it. On this map I need to set buttons with names, and want to see related record windows popup when I click the button. The layout is in the same database the record I am looking to visualize. I tried several way, but I only get the first record in the list.. I may not be smart enough for the task..! New to FMP 12, and not really familiar with triggers capabilities...!! However I am wondering how could I do to have the button name taken into consideration by FM and popup the window the correct record. Thanks in advance
  5. Hi, I need help trying to create an elegant solution to this problem. I need to do a "CountIf" type summary, counting all related records to the current one (which are also shown in a portal). I have an Assignments table (each record has a unique AsnID) and an Individual Submission table with many records (each tied to the Assignment record through the AsnID). A one:many relationship. The important field here is that each Individual Submission has a field "Rating" that only allows "A", "B" or "C" values. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Is there are way that I can have a calculation field in "Assignments" that will count how many "A"s there are in all the related records' "Rating" field? (I'll need three of them, one to count As, one to count Bs, and one to count Cs, but I can work that out if someone can show me how to do one of them). In the main layout in which I'll be using this information, there's also a portal showing all the related records, so if it uses the portal to do this calculation, that's fine, but I'm sure it's possible without it. This seems like a pretty simple thing to do, but I can't work it out and I can't find the answer through Google either.
  6. I've got a field on Layout A (from Table A) that displays a values from a value list in a dropdown. The value list displays values from Table B which is a personnel table. So the field on Layout A displays "Last & First" when the dropdown is clicked in browse mode. I would like to set up a button action to go to the related record in the personnel layout but something isn't set up right, I'm guessing in the relation between the tables. How should the relationship be set up to get the button action to work to go to the related record in a different layout/table? The field the button action is on is "Safety Clearance:Primary Authorized Employee". The value list inputs values from "Personnel:Last". And I have a relationship between the tables established as Safety Clearance:Primary Authorized Employee = Personnel:Last.
