We have two copies of Filemaker Pro Advanced 11v4. We are working from different geografical locations. Our database lies in a shared Dropbox.

Until now my collegue have worked from 8:00 to 13:00 and med from 13:00.

Isn't it possible for us to work with the database at the same time without a server version og FM?

No, you cannot both access the same file in this way.

You don't need FM Server to share the file, but you will need one of you to 'host' the file.

Your situation seems perfect for a professional FM Hosting service.

I moved your topic from "FileMaker Pro 11" to "Peer To Peer Sharing” because the General Topics are for the discussion of the tools, features and functions that were introduced with that release of FileMaker and not for asking how-to questions.

Your question fits into this topic.

If that data is vital, get it out of Dropbox. It is fine if you are storing the backup file their, but do NOT let the live file live in Dropbox. I have personally seen many files corrupted that way.

In general, you should let nothing touch a live file...not Anti-virus scans, not backup software, NOTHING.

The database in Dropbox are automaticly backed up to a local harddisk every our 24/7.

Thank you for pointing out hosting for me. I have no idea of how and where, but "professional FM Hosting service" sounded expensive to me. Link?

Of course we can afford $10; I just didn't know that. As mentioned we are still running FM 11. At that time (2010/11 as far as I recall) money wasn't a problem. It is now. Our economy has stablized and are growing slowly, but on the way up there are many other things we prioritize higher than the upgrade of FM. It's that simple.

Be sure to read user reviews before committing to any provider. This is not a warning especially about worldcloud.com.

Where could one find user reviews, Rick.  I made the mistake of signing up with worldcloud and found him incompetent and dishonest.

It will depend a little bit on where in the world you are. There are several that have great reviews. Though to be honest, there is not really a single place to look. The forums have many discussions about who people use.  A few good ones that I am aware of ( those I have not had actual user experience with all of them, just by reputation ).

There may be other too. These ones I don't believe I have ever heard anything negative about. And 1 of them I have used myself in the past.

Disclaimer: I am not endorsing or recommending any one service. They are not in any particular order, other than the order they popped into my head. Be sure to test a service first before committing to it. :)
