Twice now, over the past few months, I've launched FileMaker Pro Advanced 13 on my mac (OS X 10.9.4 or 10.9.5) to get this error message:

This application has been installed incorrectly or modified by another program. Please run the Installer to get a fresh copy of the application after determining the cause.

I can and will re-install the app, but it's a hassle. Any idea what causes this?

Hi xochi, can you provide a little more information about your issue?  What kind of hardware do you have and do you have the latest updates for OS X and Java?

Have you tried going into Disk Utility and Repairing Permissions?  Have you checked if any third party anti-virus or firewall programs are blocking or affecting FileMaker?  Does a computer restart usually fix the issue?  Or does it reoccur until you reinstall?

What seems odd to me is that the message has shown up only twice in the last months. I assume you use FMPA much more often than that. I can't help you with the cause of the problem, but it is odd that it's not consistent. I have never encountered this. Also Mac, Lion and Mavericks machines.

I run a pretty clean system with OS X 10.9.5 - no antivirus or third party software that are the usual suspects.  I have some Adobe CS5 apps installed (Flash) and both Parallels and VMWare Fusion, but never had trouble with them in the past.

I agree that it's odd.

Remembering back, I think I may have run Disk Utility / Repair Disk Permissions about a week ago, but I don't think the FM13 problem happened immediately afterwards, tho I may be mis-remembering.

I upgraded to 10.10.3 and it seemed fine, but just today - it happened again.   Right after the "installed incorrectly" message I get a crash, and the stack crash suggests it's the Dacons Mail.IT plugin to blame.

I'll check my plugin versions - perhaps I'm out of date?

Update:  My Dacons Mail.It plugin was old (version mailit_mac_v_6.0.0.14 ) and I've updated to the latest (mailit_mac_v_6.0.1.26) but I still had to reinstall FileMaker Pro Advanced 13 and then update to 13v5 before it would run.

I'll report back again if I see this problem recur.

This just happened to me again today, but this time I'm running FileMaker Advanced 14v4 under OS X 10.11.3.

I also have FM Pro 14v4 installed and when I launch it, it does open but comes up unregistered, asking me to enter license key or choose a trial period.

Frustrating.
