  1. You Sir, are a genius! Thank you so much. Just so I know for future reference what does the lower case 'c' in front of ImageName mean/do?
  2. Hi, I've got a database I am working on and I need some help with a relationship on it. I want a picture file in one Layout to appear in another. I've done relationships before but I am struggling to make this work. The record name is that it needs to correspond with is from a calculation. I've done a mock-up of what I need in this attached database. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Ro PictureTest.zip
  3. Thanks LaRetta, I'm going to test this. Do I run it as a script or a calculation though? Thank you. Wait!!! Got it. It worked like a charm!! Thank you
  4. Hi, I'm trying to make a calculation that will remove the last three characters from a field. I have imported a bunch of picture files and I want to have a field that has the label of the file without the file type info. For example: FILENAME: A1-3.jpg (full filename) NAME: A1-3 (the name without the extension) Does anyone know how I can make this work in the name field? Is it a calculation? Thanks, Ro
  5. I've been working on Step 1 today funny you mention it. Just need to get the relationship part figured out and it will work just fine. Thanks for step 2 as well. If I can't get 1 to work I will see about 2. Thank you.
  6. Yes, embedded. If I can I would still like to figure out how to batch import them and automatically have it calculate which record they sync up with. Or would them embed through this other method as well?
  7. Thanks for this. It's working but I think I still need to be able to import the images into the the file as it needs to move between different machines (usually via usb drive) and I think I would need to make sure the images and the directory update in all the computers. This is a great solution though and will come in handy with some other things I am working on.
  8. Thanks for this. It's not quite working yet but it's getting close. I'm getting a shortcut image in the box with the name of the file but not the picture. I will fiddle with it a bit and see if I can get it to work. I will let you know if I do.
  9. Hi all, I have a question that I hope is easy to answer. I want to be able to batch import images into a database and have them automatically import into a matching records. For example: I have a record which in the NAME field has the entry: 6E-4 (A) and I have a picture file names 6E-4 (A).jpg. I want to be able to import that file from a batch and have it automatically import to the matching 6E-4 (A) record. I have a container field ready to go for it. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rowan
  10. I really should have seen that.... thanks for looking. I've got a lot to learn. Trying to get these working together has been interesting to say the least. I'm also trying to figure out how, when I enter the scene number in the Codebook I can get it to automatically look up the scene number in the scene list. Thank you very much with your help on that. I really appreciate it.
  11. Hi doughemi, I've attached the two databases involved in a zip file. you may need to reconnect them in the relationships table, but I'm sure that won't cause you too much grief. The Edit Management-test file should open at the Data Entry Layout. It's still a work in progress so please forgive the layouts and if you have any suggestions on a better way to manage it all I am very much open to it. Thanks so much. Edit Management-test.zip
  12. Hi, the fields are just regular text fields if that is what you mean. they're not calculations or number fields. I believe SECOND might be the parent and MAIN the child (I should have thought of that when I was writing the first post). I've tried switching it around but it doesn't make a difference. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks.
  13. Hi all, I'm hoping this is an easy fix. I have two databases the main one, we'll call MAIN has a radio box on it. On another database, we'll call SECOND has a portal to MAIN. As part of the portal is these radio boxes. I want whatever is checked in the radio box in MAIN to appear in SECOND portal and vice versa. the problem I am having is if I check the box in MAIN it turns off the checked box in SECOND portal. If I check the box in SECOND portal it turns it off in MAIN. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thank you.
  14. Hi, Thanks for that link. I've been working through a version of that and I think it's clearing up some stuff for me. No, the assets will be only used in one scene. I'm working on a version of the link you posted above that might help put it into perspective for you too. Explain what I am trying to do in a more simple detail. I think I just bit off more than I could chew and needed to get back to the basics of FMP before I get too ahead of myself. Thanks.
  15. The scene list would then be a combination of various different elements again such as: scene description, characters, elements needed for the scene (which could possibly even link back to the asset management) etc. It's a step up in the progression. The scenes are made up of the assets. But getting back to the original question is there a way that the Project info can be entered in once and appear on multiple entries in both lists? Thanks for your help. By the way, the reply to your first question your last post seems to be caught up in the quote link above for some reason.
