  1. Hello All, I need to rename a couple of files hosted on the Server. I am working on a Mac and the file is hosted on a PC Server. I assume I have to download the file, and then use Developer Utilities to rename. I guess I should download to my Mac, but how do I do this through Remote Desktop Access? The option to download brings up the dialog box shown in the attachment. Is this the proper way to do this? I don't want to bother my Server administrator if I don't have to. Any guidance is much appreciated.
  2. Thank you comment, I see the merit of this. I thought of this, but wanted to avoid adding calculation fields. But I think it is better having calculation fields instead of complicating the structure of the database. I shall go ahead and try this.

Since my posting, I gave this more thought, and if I thought about the parent tables as value lists/conditional value lists (much like Category, SubCategory etc), this approach could be following proven structural strategies. Besides the increase in the number of records in the tables Session, Offerings, and Sections, their data should remain stable, and there are few fields in this table--therefore integrity would not be at great risk. I am trying to build a database to track my college students' enrolments, evaluations, attendance, etc. I hope I will clear in what I am trying to ask: I have the following tables (there are others, but these will suffice for my question). Thank you for this post. I was trying to figure out something similar.  I tried to use the principles of your solution, but I couldn't repurpose it figure out my problem.  I teach college classes with students in different years of their study.  I wish to find percentages of the students in each year out of the total class size.  Please my screenshot:  I've set up Sum Count fields to capture the Count of Students in each Year of Study and for the Class.  In the example. I thought that a Script Trigger OnObjectExit like this would work, but I am getting an error (102: Field is missing ).   7. Hello, I am building a database to store potentially both interactive and static files numbering in the thousands. I am confused as to whether I should create a dedicated thumbnail container field or to use FM Native thumbnail feature. What are the pros and cons for each method? Much of the inputting could be done on WebDirect and I wish to pay attention to performance issues and stability. Any guidance is much appreciated. Thank you.

  9. Hello, I am working on a growing database that currently has 4000+ records, each record having up to 4 images. The file is currently not on FM Server, but I wish to propose to my company that we get FM Server and upload this database on to it. In my readings I have not come across any potential problems with uploading these large container field data. I wish to store the images externally, with open storage. Does anyone foresee any problems with this move to FM Server? Thank you for any guidance or suggestions.

The place I was working had it, but was sorely underused. Self-taught development skills and successfully developed a few solutions for various departments.   12. Hello I am wondering if there is any way in Filemaker 11 to run a script according to a calculationi (more specifically, according to a selection that the user makes). Here is an outline of what I wish to achieve. I have a global field, with a checkbox value list of the many reporting options available to the user.   13. Hello. I am finding that I much prefer in many situations using a Value List based on values from a field. (the primary incentive is that it would help run some scripts; and provide the user with more control). This would require me to create a new table dedicated to the populating of the value list. Because one should try and limit the number of Tables/TOs in a file, does the addition of new tables for the Value Lists worth the benefit that this strategy provides?
