  1. This is why sometimes posting on boards stinks...No insults intend for Tim's excellent work!!! which is broadly acknowledged as very excellent. Sorry if my wording was so poor. Tim I was in the process of crafting an email to you, but haven't sent it, because I was trying to see if I can manage to write the sql to take care of round tripping while allowing the same device to both connect and make changes to the host and also do the syncing. I agree round tripping can be huge, but having it not be able to sync on the same device I do changes on the host is bigger, in the short term. You said you were considering that the same device would potentially modify the host and sync, so Tim am I or others missing something that is already in there that I didn't notice that supports this already in preferences? Sorry again if my wording was poor or insulting in anyway. I was just trying to offer up the solution I found in the couple of days I had played around with your excellent open source product.
  2. I have the answer, as I ran into the same problem. Tim obviously wasn't thinking that you might be modifying the hosted files directly with the same device that you are doing the sync. In script on hosted version - 'Prepare Payload for Client', down about half way where the set variable $dyn_sql See this part of the code. / If the client is merging new/updated data with data already on the device... // Only include records that have been added/updated since the last pull... // And only include data that they did not just push (i.e. no "round tripping!")... If ( ( $$sync_method = "Merge" ) and ( $last_pull_utc > 0 ); "AND ( ES_UTC_Time > " & $last_pull_utc & " ) " & "AND ( COALESCE ( ES_Device_ID, 'X' ) <> '" & $client_persistent_id & "') "; "" ) The last part "AND ( COALESCE ( ES_Device_ID, 'X' ) <> '" & $client_persistent_id, stops anything pulling down from the host that was modified from the same device. Now if you only use your device for syncing then all is good, but if you are like me and you also use the laptop to edit the hosted data when onsite and in the office then this is a problem. Now it seems like it would be better to write a statement that omits any of the records UUIDs pushed up to the host, but I'm not good enough to write that statement and maybe neither was Tim. For me I just changed this line to be some persistent id that will never occur (1234). "AND ( COALESCE ( ES_Device_ID, 'X' ) <> '" & 1234 & Because I usually push up a minor amount of data it's a minor problem that if what I push up also gets pulled back down, i.e. roundtrips.

Cannot save as PDF in Filemaker 13 V3

See this tech article. http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12003/~/unable-to-save-pdf-files-using-the-mac-os-version-of-filemaker-pro-when-using FileMaker, Inc. has identified an issue with FileMaker Pro running on Mac OS when attempting to save records as a PDF. Specifically, saving records as a PDF can fail in FileMaker Pro when the following are true: Adobe Reader 10 is installed on your system. A container field optimized for interactive content is on your layout. A PDF is inserted in the container field optimized for interactive content. When you attempt to save records as a PDF when the above are true, the following error message can be displayed and the PDF is not saved to disk: "The <filename.pdf> could not be created on this disk. Use a different name, more room on disk, unlock it or use a different disk." WORKAROUND: FileMaker, Inc. has not seen this issue when Adobe Reader 11 for Mac OS is installed or another non-Adobe reader is installed. ADDITIONAL NOTES: Once this issue occurs, you may be unable to save records as a PDF in other databases as well. If this occurs, it is recommended that you quit out of FileMaker Pro and re-launch it. Although the other responses are most likely the answer to the persons problem, usually a permissions or path error. If you have had intermittent problems especially with filemaker 13 check you that tech article from filemaker. http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12003/~/unable-to-save-pdf-files-using-the-mac-os-version-of-filemaker-pro-when-using

    Container Field Calculation - Quicktime

Two comments. #1) yes this can be done using the supercontainer plugin, either client side or on the server. It's not obvious that there is a plugin also available since you can do it all thru a web viewer, but there is. I did this a number of years ago, partially because we wanted to convert a supercontainer solution over to the new document storage in filemaker 12. http://static.360works.com/plugins/SuperContainer/plugin-documentation.html #2) Why not just show a web viewer on your layout that shows the supercontainer item? That way you don't even have to move it into a filemaker container.

    Related data chart questions

Hi, For speed reasons and others I generally put my charts into variables. So for you x-axis set your data like this $$chart1xaxis = "Jan¶Feb¶Mar¶Apr¶May¶Jun¶Jul¶Aug¶Sep¶Oct¶Nov¶Dec" for your y axis Loop over or use sql query or whatever you want to get your donations by month (y axis data). say there were donations of $50 in Jan and $250 in April, Remember you need place holders for your blank months. $$chart1yaxis = "50¶¶¶250¶¶¶¶¶¶¶¶" Typically for large clients, we have a nightly routine that updates their monthly sales numbers into a table for each client. That way we don't have to wait for summaries or anything to occur in realtime for large data sets, it's all saved. Then usually we just use the list function to get the sales data. List(salesbymonth::amount) and set that into our variable on record load. If you plan to have multiple client windows open you run into a problem with your variables, but you can learn about dynamic variable creation elsewhere so that each customer record has it's own set of variables for it's own chart, or just create a table of related data by month as mentioned above.

Open URL to open file problem

Hi, thanks for responding. Because OPEN URL (file:///Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/peter/Documents/localfile.fp7") doesn't always return an error, often returns 0 even when the file wasn't opened. OPEN URL (fmp7:///Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/peter/Documents/localfile.fp7") but this doesn't seem to work, or I have a syntax problem somewhere. I did find one issue. It seems in older filemaker versions you had to substitute for spaces in your URL, but it seems that if you are opening a filemaker file in at least filemaker 11 and later it actually doesn't understand the substitution for spaces. For Example previously you had to use substitute for spaces with "%20", but that now seems to break the filepath on Mac, haven't tested on windows yet. "file:///Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/peter/Documents/localfile.fp7" vs. for older solutions "file:///Volumes/Macintosh%20HD/Users/peter/Documents/localfile.fp7" The substitution mentioned above by GENx for forward slashes still seems to be a good one.

Open URL to open file problem

Has anyone ever gotten this to work with a filemaker file? I've tried Open URL, but it doesn't work consistently, even with the substitute command for spaces I've tried Open URL fmp://.... but this doesn't seem to be recognized for local files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to download a filemaker file stored in a container field and then open it.

    MS Outlook Warning

So from everything I can see it says you basically can't change the setting in outlook easily. You have to manually edit the registry. Add the following key to the registry (create the key if it doesn't exist): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice14.0OutlookSecurity Use the following value: ObjectModelGuard, DWORD =2 If the key above does work, you could try the set of keys below. If the keys don't exist in the registry, you'll need to create them. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftOffice14.0outlooksecurity PromptOOMSend, DWORD = 2 AdminSecurityMode, DWORD = 3 Here's the link to the webpage that has some more details. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-customize/how-can-i-change-the-programmatic-access-options/106a6f44-795e-40af-b930-916bcf60ebb4 Another solution is to do this, use this 3rd party solution, which I obviously haven't tried but http://www.mapilab.com/outlook/security/ Here's a couple more links for you. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/abafa8fc-dc49-456a-a6df-0b00a2c35532/ In that article they recommended slighly different settings. This issue is because of the enhanced security features of Outlook 2010. Create following registry key and Dword values to resolve it: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftOffice14.0OutlookSecurity Dword: PromptOOMSend Value: 2 Dword: PromptOOMAddressBookAccess value: 2 Dword : PromptOOMAddressInformationAccess Value:2 Dword: PromptOOMMeetingTaskRequestResponse Value: 2 Dword: PromptOOMSaveAs Value: 2 Dword: PromptOOMFormulaAccess Value: 2 Dword: PromptSimpleMAPISend Value: 2 Dword: PromptSimpleMAPINameResolve Value: 2 Dword: PromptSimpleMAPIOpenMessage Value : 2 Lastly this article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff657852(v=office.14).aspx#BKMK_ProgrammaticSettings

    Windows 7 / Outlook 2010 / FM 9

HERE's the FIX!!! So Microsoft was tired of spammers leveraging outlook and sending mail so they made this really hard to fix. You can't just change the programatic security (trustcenter) settings, no they made it harder than that... you have to edit the registry. You have to manually edit the registry. 11. As others have stated this feature doesn't work, even with exit script if the portal row you have to scroll down. The portal resets itself to the 1st or last row depending on the different things I've tried. Anyone found a work around?

How to Test IWP document Uploaded

Hi, I use supercontainer for several of my clients. The one difficulty I have run into is on IWP checking to see if the user uploaded their document. Often they select it, but then don't click the upload button. In filemaker I can do that using this check (below) or use the plugin, but this doesn't work on IWP any recommendations? PatternCount(GetLayoutObjectAttribute ("supercontainer"; "Content");"<a id=\"download\" href")>0 Sincerely Peter

    SuperContainer and ScanSnap

Hi Nick, I have done a number of solutions where you drop the document(s) into the scanner, press the scan button and it prompts your to add them to a specific customer record for example or just auto attaches it to the record you are currently viewing. I'm not offering a free solution, but we do have a solution to this. The solution is mac only, unless you happen to be very skilled in windows scripting then perhaps we could partner to get the unreliable windows solution I have to work consistently. Feel free to contact me.
