  1. Hi Ryan, No, I've not yet gotten this to work. I'm running strictly on Pro so i may be having a different problem than you. I think my problem is stemming from the fact that my FMP Server is being accessed through a Citrix network. But please do keep me posted if you figure anything out. Good luck

Table 1: Personnel Records: This table contains personal information for each of the employees as well as salary or wage information, it is connected to all other sheets via the PERSONNEL ID MATCH FIELD (this table holds the primary key) Table 2: Contract_Records: This table has 1 record for each employee week, 30 employees, 53 weeks, 1590 records. It pulls salary/wage information via the PERSONNEL ID MATCH FIELD relationship. This table is my primary workhorse, I enter on contract/off contract/furlough information here as well as hours worked and other important weekly information Table 3: Contract_Weeks: my hope was that this would have 1 record per employee and be a summary of all their weekly statuses While this whole database is primarily designed around monitoring the active year I also need to use it for forecasting future years (we are in a field that hires people seasonally). We currently use a big spreadsheet (see attached sample) where my boss colorcodes each cell to represent the employees status, I then enter it into the database and it does the hard work of calculating expected pay per employee and department. That's all fine and dandy if you do it once a year, however we do this budgeting practice upwards of 10 times before we lend on a final budget. I need to recreate something that will allow my boss to easily play with the weeks each employee is working and have it automatically update the salary numbers. I currently have a portal that displays a brief sum of each week (see employee sample) but really need to see everyone together as it's a very tightly woven puzzle. Does that make more sense?   4. Hi Comment, Thank you for your response. In the heat of the moment it's hard to figure out what is necessary information. Using the table Contract_Weeks I am looking to create a chart that has my weeks down the side and employees across the top (or vice versa, not important). Each cell would be marked On Contract/Off Contract/ or On Furlough. This information is already recorded in the Contract_Records table but I am having trouble finding a way to display all of my 30 employees and 53 weeks in one easy to glance at chart/table that can be used for planning purposes. I know that duplicate information is a hazard but the only way I can think to create a chart such as this is to get all of a single employees 53 weeks in to a single record and since I would only be pulling this one field it wouldn't be too bad. I need to be able to update the Type field in Contract_Weeks and have it be reflected in Contract_Records. At this time we are starting a fresh database for each year so there will only be 53 weeks at a time.
  5. Hello, I have 2 tables (for these purposes) that look at employee records. The first, Contract_Records has one record per person per week and records extensive information about each employee week. The second, Contract_Weeks has one record per person with one field for each week to record either on or off contract. I need a calculation that finds a record in Contract_Records where Contract_Weeks::EmployeeID=Contract_Records::EmployeeID and Contract_Weeks::WeekID=Contract_Records::WeekID. Right now I am using Case ( Contract_Records::week_ID="1"; Contract_Records::Type; "NA") and it is returning the correct value for Week_ID 1 but not for the subsequent fields such as Case ( Contract_Records::week_ID="2"; Contract_Records::Type; "NA") (this is returning NA). Is something preventing FMP from looking past the first record? Is there a way to use Lookup for this calculation? I do want to be able to use Contract_Weeks to change information on Contract_Records. Thanks!
  6. Any idea why a PDF would not only not be viewable if inserted this way but the full pdf opens in Reader whenever you click into that record (and do not click on the field)? When it opens by itself it also bogs down my whole database.
  7. Thank you for your response bcooney. With 'interactive and temporary' I was referring to the thumbnail generation that is located under Manage Containers and then the individual container which is set to optimize for Interactive content. My container field is stored externally open, but I am open to whatever storage options would make this work. Both of links you sent make me think that I should be at least able to see a thumbnail of the PDF content in my container. I am unable to see any of the PDF content. Is this normal or should you see a preview of the pdf? Is there any way to view a PDF without exporting it from FMP?
  8. I am starting to create a new solution to catalog all of our companies Safety Data Sheets and would like to make the PDFs accessible through FMP14. At the moment I have created a container field that is Interactive and has temporary storage. If I choose "Insert PDF" FMP thinks about it for a moment then opens the pdf I have selected, if I close the pdf I can see that something is in the container but there is no content show. If I move to a record where this has been done the PDF automatically opens, albeit slowly, but I am unable to view the PDF contents without exporting it. If I insert the pdf as a file I see a file icon but am not able to read the file in any way except by exporting it. From reading about PDFs and container fields, it sounds like I should at least be able to see a thumbnail of the pdf but I am not able to read any of the PDFs content. Has anyone else been having that problem? A sample file is attached. Ideally the pdf would be viewable in the record or by clicking a single button and then could be saved to the user's computer for printing purposes. MSDS.fmp12

If you ever see a start up screen like the one attached try this: Uninstall the current installationDelete the FileMaker folder in Mac HD/Users/Shared/Empty your trashRename your hard drive to something without a space (MacintoshHD)Restart ReinstallGo to MacHD/Users/Shared/FileMaker/FileMaker Pro/14.0Copy the pInfo fileGo to the application folder, right click on FileMaker Pro 14, Get InfoChange all permission settings to be Read & WriteApply ChangesGo into the FileMaker Pro 14 folder, right click on FIleMaker Pro and open Show Package ContentsPaste the pInfo folder in Contents/MacOS/Open the application This sounds like a pretty rare problem that they are having and they aren't sure what exactly is causing it but it took us about 6 different attempts to find this solution.   11. I am looking to write a script that creates a set of new records (one for each week of the year) for each new employee added. There are 3 tables; EmployeeInfo, WeeklyPay, Calendar. The new records created in WeeklyPay need to have their EmployeeID set to the new employee's ID and the WeekID needs to be drawn from each record in the Calendar table. (Many other fields will also be set at this time but this is where I am getting stuck). Right now my script is populating the fk_EmployeeID field correctly but nothing is happening with the WeekID.   12. I did just that. We are currently working to resolve the issue, right now they think it might be an interaction between FMP and AutoCad but we've yet to find a workaround.

When opening up FMP 14 after installation I receive an empty dialog box with the title FileMaker Pro Trial, no body, and 4 buttons (Buy Now, Close, Enter License Key, and Try FileMaker Pro (try is greyed out)). The installer tells me that installation was complete but I can not get pass this dialog box, even after numerous installation attempts. I have a license key and a Trial email but both ways result in the same thing. If I try entering my license key at this point I receive another smaller empty dialog box with the FMP14 icon on the left. I'm running an older MacBook Pro with Yosemite and have enough Ram per the tech specs. I do have FMP 12 installed. Any thoughts? I need to get working on a project for work and would really like to build it in 14 not 12.
