  5. Orlando, FL - July 07th, 2008 - DnG Design & Development, the driving force behind the phenomenally successful FileMaker hot-spot, FMPug, today officially unveiled a new on-line community resource, FindFileMakerDevelopers (FFD) - http://www.FindFileMakerDevelopers.com. FFD introduces a wide range of features and benefits never before offered through a single FileMaker-driven on-line resource. The entire site is tightly focused on achieving two core objectives: (1) expanding business opportunities for professional FileMaker Pro developers, and (2) expanding the use and reach of FileMaker Pro databases in organizations large and small. "Our members have expressed to us their need for such a service to help their businesses grow and to help them spread the use and the acceptance of FileMaker Pro especially to 'new-new' customers who have never used FileMaker before," said Andy Gaunt, founder of FMPug and the developer who designed the FFD site. "Whether it's FMPug or FFD, at the end of the day they are just infrastructure. Our inspiration, our concepts, our blueprints stem directly from the people, the FileMaker community we serve. We will continue to be the company who has an ear to the ground listening to what people have to say, and working to make the 'it' happen. There are millions of voices in the FileMaker community who want to be heard. We're doing our best to listen," he added. Utilizing the latest FileMaker based technology, including FileMaker® Server 9 and the latest FileMaker PHP API, the FFD site boasts a simple, clean interface with a host of power-packed features aimed to please both the talent and the talent-seekers simultaneously. FFD has hit the ground running and is already hosting profiles for well over 50 FileMaker Pro development, consulting, and training companies from around the world. Over the course of the next few weeks FFD will focus on reaching its "critical mass" in order to have a healthy cross-section of companies, skill sets, and worldwide locales. DnG believes the presence and active promotion of FFD at the 2008 FileMaker Developers' Conference in Phoenix will greatly aid efforts to achieve that "critical mass" and to move forward. Aptly named, FindFileMakerDevelopers transforms the way people find professional FileMaker Pro developers. The site provides a one-stop-shop for people, including both end-users and other FileMaker Pro developers, who are seeking an easy, efficient, and effective means to find quality FileMaker Pro talent, either locally or around the world. The process is simple: users enter their search criteria in the free-form search field, and the powerful search engine behind the system quickly returns a list of matching companies along with a comprehensive profile about each one. Each search is performed against every aspect of a given profile, which results in a list of companies that are relevant and applicable to the criteria entered. Since the site is dedicated to FileMaker professionals, users may be assured the companies featured are 100% focused on FileMaker and FileMaker related applications. The depth of the company profiles allows users to actively compare and contrast skills, certifications, affiliations, and work samples, along with additional criteria - all in one place - before initiating contact directly with the selected company(ies) directly from the site. "We've worked with some really fantastic companies to ensure right out of the gate that FindFileMakerDevelopers is a simple but powerful site people can readily use. Just as with FMPug, we want to continue to push the FileMaker movement forward, put the products, the resources, and the talent directly in front of people and make it super simple for people to find exactly what they need... when they need it. We're hoping that the cross integration between FMPug and FFD will maximize the benefits of both, and that we can become the first point of reference for people seeking FileMaker Pro talent, training, or services. These two resources work really well together, and we're looking forward to making the FileMaker community even stronger," Gaunt noted. In addition to its sophisticated search capabilities, the site has a number of special features: "Emergency Aid" - This feature provides professionals the ability to offer-up their services for a quick short-term project, while offering the talent seeker the ability hire talent on the spot. This slick little feature can be updated directly by the professional members from any web-enabled device. "Short List Wizard" - This feature provides assistance to users who simply need a bit of guidance when it comes to locating FileMaker talent. The Wizard is designed to gently steer users in the right direction, preventing people from being overwhelmed with results. The flip side to using the Wizard is assuring that the companies are the most appropriate fit for the project itself - a benefit no matter how you look at it. FindFileMakerDevelopers is the first site where users have the ability to study a select set of companies, in detail, without having to leave the site. The professional profiles cover the gamut - skills, affiliations, certifications, specialties and everything in between. Enormously beneficial, users now have the ability to actively compare and contrast companies - in one place - before initiating contact, again done directly through FFD. The site offers a healthy dose of simple sophistication, clearly indicative that the navigation and overall functionality remained in the forefront during the design and implementation of FFD. Andy Gaunt explained striking a balance was absolutely key to making the site an attractive and functional option for both the people using the site and the professionals who are listed. Strike a balance it does. Every feature examined plays equally well to both the professionals listed on the site and the users seeking talent. To learn more about this brand new FileMaker community resource, read testimonials from companies already listed, or to understand how listing on FFD will help to strengthen and expand your business, please visit FindFileMakerDevelopers.   6. You may want to turn PHP error reporting all the way up so you can see if any errors are being reported. Add the following snippet of code to the top of your php page. // Report all errors error_reporting(E_ALL); //Ensure errors are reported to brwser ini_set('display_errors',1); ini_set('error_reporting', E_ALL);
  7. Interestingly I just had a call from someone at FileMaker regarding this issue that they were struggling to solve. The issue is that the function getStatusLinks does not include any sort order. Listed below is a fix for this issue that now adds the sort order if present in the current url and passes that correctly to the pagination function. In the fmview.php file replace the function getStatusLinks in its entirety with that listed below function getStatusLinks($resultPage, $rs, $skip, $max, $sort) { $links = array ( 'first' => 'First', 'prev' => 'Prev', 'records' => array ( 'rangestart' => 0, 'rangeend' => 0, 'foundcount' => 0 ), 'next' => 'Next', 'last' => 'Last' ); $fetchcount = $rs->getFetchCount(); $foundcount = $rs->getFoundSetCount(); $total = $rs->getTableRecordCount(); if ($total == 0 || $fetchcount == 0) { return $links; } else { if ($fetchcount > 0) { if ($skip > 0) { $links['first'] = "" . $links['first'] . ""; if ($skip > $max) { $prevskip = $skip - $max; $links['prev'] = "" . $links['prev'] . ""; } } if ($foundcount - $skip > $max) { $nextskip = $skip + $max; $links['next'] = "" . $links['next'] . ""; $lastskip = $foundcount - $max; $links['last'] = "" . $links['last'] . ""; } $links['records']['rangestart'] = max($skip, 1); $links['records']['rangeend'] = min($foundcount + $skip, $fetchcount + $skip); $links['records']['foundcount'] = $foundcount; } } return $links; } Now, replace your $statusLinks variable on your recordlist.php page with the following two lines. if (isset($_GET['-sortfieldone'])) $sort = "&-sortfieldone=".$_GET['-sortfieldone']."&-sortorderone=".$_GET['-sortorderone']; $statusLinks = getStatusLinks("recordlist.php", $result, $skip, $max, $sort);
  8. Orlando, FL – 27 March 2007 - The DevCon Scheduler is back for 2008. Stay informed, on-time and on-track! http://www.fmpug.com/devcon FMPug.com, the leading FileMaker-centric networking community unveiled their 2008 DevCon Scheduler today; marking the follow-up to the successful introduction made in 2007. The Scheduler enables any/all attendees the ability to see the entire conference schedule, including all applicable details and a snapshot of the conference wing’s floor plan directly on their respective web-enabled device. Last year the Scheduler was targeting attendees with the then newly launched Apple iPhone, however this year the interface has been redesigned to look its best on any web-enabled device. As it relates to the redesign and bringing all web-enabled devices in to the fold, Andy Gaunt, Founder of FMPug.com had this to add: “My personal love affair/bias toward the iPhone aside, I wanted to ensure the Scheduler could be successfully utilized and look equally ‘cool’ on any web-enabled device. After all, we can’t play favorites when it comes to keeping these attendees organized, on-time and heading in the right direction.” Andy went onto explain that all attendees will be able to view the schedules and floorplan, however an additional feature has been added for members of FMPug which allows them to log-in and record their personal schedule of conference sessions. “We had to add something a little extra special for our members. Using the assigned code from their FMPug Member Page, they’ll be able to log-in once, bookmark that page and maintain their entire schedule for conference sessions. Registrations, overviews, lunches, and dinners will be available at their finger tips without the need to dig through page after page of information or cut and paste applicable details to their respective calendar program.” FMPug fully expects the Scheduler to once again be well-received by the attendees. Andy concluded: “It was simply incredible to see the number of people last year wandering around DevCon studying their Scheduler. Between the email announcements, its honorable mention by FileMaker Corporate during the keynote presentation and attendee word-of-mouth, we were thrilled to witness its success first-hand! I knew I would be bringing it back with a vengeance for 2008. With the growing success of the iPhone and the great feedback received from people who actually used the Scheduler, I fully expect to double the number of attendees roaming around studying it intensely! It will be exciting to see.” FMPug’s 2008 DevCon Scheduler is available to everyone and anyone who might be attending DevCon, simply visit http://www.fmpug.com/devcon. Details on how-to take advantage of the personalized scheduling feature (available only to members of the FMPug community) will be posted on the FMPug Member Homepage. The DevCon Schdeuler is powered by FileMaker Server 9 Advanced and coded using the FileMaker PHP API. Meet Your (potential) Macbook Air Just announced at this year's MacWorld, the MacBook Air is the world's thinnest notebook on the market. Perfect for that long flight, presenting to clients or just lazing on the sofa. What better way to show how we "cair" about our membership than offering you the chance to win this great piece of technology (you must be an active member and present at DevCon to be eligible to win). I'm not a member yet! If you are not a member yet, you have no time to lose. You can Join the FMPug network today from only $99 for a virtual membership (http://www.fmpug.com/join.php) and not only get the opportunity to record your schedule but also get instant access to all the benefits and perks that FMPug offers. The gang at FMPug has been working really hard to make our site and membership benefits even more robust! Only this week we launched the brand-new site, retooled and redesigned from the ground-up. The new site has incorporated feedback and suggestions gathered from members as to what they’re looking for in a development/network community. Infrastructure for FMPug.com is provided by our friends at dbdom.com who provide dedicated FileMaker, Web & Email Servers for FMPug.com. dbdom.com is just one of many FMPug discount providers offering members savings on their products. 9. Orlando, FL – March 24, 2007 -- FMPug (http://www.fmpug.com), the leading FileMaker-centric networking community has officially unveiled their new site today. Straightforward, easy and intuitive, the site has been redefined and redesigned from the ground-up, incorporating a streamlined navigation process and a host of new features utilizing the new FileMaker PHP API. “I am extremely proud to finally launch the new and vastly improved FMPug site,” said Andy Gaunt, Founder of FMPug.com. “Admittedly it has been a long time in the making, but with every aspect of the site being retooled – I view this site as a tribute, a dedication to all our members, coordinators and sponsors who have provided us incredible suggestions and feedback over the years. It’s true, new features have been introduced, but the preexisting features have been restructured and organized in a cleaner, more clear-cut process. The look, the feel, the simplicity is a direct result of their feedback and I am confident the new site will turn some heads!” It’s evident the new FMPug site has been built with the membership clearly in focus. Nothing illustrates this point more than the newly revised Pawfolio (personal business card) section. Members now have the ability to, in essence, create their own personalized advertising marquee. The new Pawfolio empowers members to promote their credentials, their company and their work. Andy explains further: “FMPug’s entire mission is to provide our members products, tools and resources to make them better at what they do. Pawfolio is just another tool, a means for our members to get their name in lights! They have the ability to list their business strengths, provide a personal or company-based overview, include their logo and most importantly upload screen shots of their work. What’s more, members can use their Pawfolio page as their own virtual business card by providing a link from their site or via an email signature. Our members support us and we in turn want them to shine – it’s really that simple. ” Though new features are evident, FMPug states the incredible host of benefits previously available remain steadfast: Plenty of discounts to third party providers, the Review It and Keep It program where great products are given-away in return for a review, the ability to discuss issues and events on RealTech, the capability to spotlight one’s businesses through PawFolio, attending Chapter Meetings with notable guest speakers, etc…it would appear nothing has been eliminated, only enhanced. Andy concludes: “FMPug’s goals are quite simple; we want to provide our members with an avenue to grow stronger in their field of business. FMPug knows what it’s like to be a developer, and we believe it’s integral for our site to reflect the growing needs of the development community. I am confident that by simply listening and instituting the feedback directly from the FMPug community as we have, we’re one step closer to ensuring members both new and old get the most from their FileMaker experience.” To view the new site or to take advantage of all that FMPug membership has to offer, please visit www.fmpug.com. 10. If you want to do it like the Xerox page you might note that the search options and conditions are in their own inline frames. This then allows them to do multiple queries without leaving the page. The first selection targets the first frame and performs a search, returning a subset of records. A selection from that query then targets another frame and performs a search returning a further subset of records. Each frame is actually a seperate page which has variables passed via the url (or GET variables) that are then used to perform searches. Other options are javascript or AJAX to simulate. HTH
  11. Hi, First your username password are backwards. It should be $query->SetDBUserPass( "pass", "user"); Also, in your find you are referencing a variable $row["client _number"]. Where are you gathering this from? To ensure your query is well formed and to debug searches it is sometimes valuable to hard code the value in your query that you are looking for in your database. This can ensure it will return the correct result. Let us know how you get on.
  12. The Biggest Ticket Item from the FileMaker Developer Conference (DevCon) 2007 is Now Available for Everyone To Own from http://www.lulu.com/content/1840967 Orlando, FL - January 10 2008 - FMPug Announces Immediate Availability of The Everything Reference Book FMPug, the world wide member organization of FileMaker Pro developers and IS/IT supporters of FileMaker products, today announced the immediate availability of The Everything Reference which proved to be the big hit of DevCon 2007 It’s a concoction of books, reference manuals, guides, application help files and original work, distilled into a single convenient source. Staying true to its name, we believe this book will prove to be an “everything reference” and a useful addition to your information arsenal. Available now in print for $44.99* and as a PDF for $18.75* * FMPug members can save $15 on the printed version and $6 on the PDF version by logging into their member home page. View the html ad at http://www.fmpug.com/newsletters/2008/theeverythingreference.html This book was created following the enormous success of the FileMaker Functions & Reference Chart debuted at the 2006 FileMaker Developer’s Conference (DevCon). DevCon provided a spring board for the chart’s burgeoning success, quickly making it a sought after resource for FileMaker developers worldwide. While well-regarded for its content, the size of the chart was reported as rather cumbersome and lacked portability. It was true – the chart being poster size lent itself more to wallpaper than a desk reference. Rather than reproducing something that people could use to decorate their room, we decided instead to create a product that best met the needs of the community. The feedback proved invaluable, and ultimately lead us down the path of (vast) improvement. “Lays flat on your desk so you don’t have to” The format of this book was deliberated over almost as much as the content. Let’s face it, most “perfect bound” desk references aren’t very cooperative when it comes to staying put, some might say they have a mind of their own. One minute you’re reading page 233 and in a flash, the book has reverted to page 145, or has closed all together! It became imperative we create a very cooperative desk reference that promised to lay flat without a fight. Thus, the spiral format was voted-in and marked the end to the deliberation. Though the new choice of formatting offered us the opportunity to expand on the content covered, but choosing the “right” content became paramount. The goal quickly became to create a readily accessible, indispensable little gem for FileMaker developers -- no matter their level of expertise. As a result, all the information was hand-picked, covering key topics that we as developers rely on each and everyday. It’s a concoction of books, reference manuals, guides, application help files and original work, distilled into a single convenient source. Staying true to its name, we believe this book will prove to be an “everything reference” and a useful addyour information arsenal. 14. Hi, I do not think you should be adversely affected by disabling this. Best bet is to disable it and then test. Seeing as this is a test server you won't be affecting mission critical sites.
  15. Hi, Depending on what you are editing yes this should be possible. You would just have a foreach loop to process all edits when you submit. Everything on your search results page would have to be wrapped in a single form and you may have to put all the elements into an array (seeing as each field will be called the same thing). And of course, you will have to include the recid on the search result page as well as the edits will need this.
  16. Brainonastick, Is your code actually rendering the recid on the row? You could try adding the following to your foreach loop $RecordKeys=explode('.',$key); $recid=$RecordKeys[0]; Then you need to change your reference to your recid on Remove this Course Too to Remove this Course Too Any time you edit or delete a record you must pass the -recid. So try that and check the source on your page to make sure the recid is visible on your a href delete link. And don't forget to uncomment your lines: /*$recid = $_GET['recid'];*/ /*$Search->AddDBParam( '-recid',$recid, 'eq');*/
  17. Your patience is almost paid off. We are putting in the final updates to "The Everything Reference" that was an enormous hit at this past Developer Conference in August 07 and it will be available to purchase very soon. So, get it in your xmas wish list.
  18. Dom, Very glad to hear that (although very sad to here about the retirement of Farrah. If you thought the posters are great...wait till you see what we have up our sleeves next!

  20. Which version of FX are you using? This error message is usually a permissions error. Do you have the fmxml privilege set active for the account you are using? Try adding; define("DEBUG", true); to the top of your page (this will allow you to see the URL being passed and let you click directly into that to see if you can actually hit the database that way.
  21. Garry, To view ValueLists you need to perform an FMView query. Check the FX.PHP PDF manual for more information
  22. Hi Carmen, Yes, the 8.0v4 fixed this issue. We have not seen any problems since this update. And yes, restarting the web engine does temporarily fix the issue.
  23. Danny, You are pretty close. Yes you are correct that the other two values must be passed through the javascript. You need to append the other values to your query using the & between each name and value pair. Try Load Post Data HTH
  24. Danny, There are two options here. Firstly you target a very specific DIV tag on your page that updates the whole form. This is fairly simple. Simply reference your DIV tag with a unique id and then inside your LAJAX call you target this hard coded DIV to be the part of the page that updates. The more complicated option is to target dynamic DIVS as we do on the FileMaker Feature Requests. This involves passing new variables to the javascript for the specific DIV in question and then using this new variable to be the one that is updated. The benefit of this is you can now update a portion of the data as opposed to the full recordset returned. If you are just processing a form I would defintely go with the first approach. If you wish you can contact me back channel or post your code here that you are using and we can fix for you. I highly recommend Firefox when testing AJAX based pages with an extension called Firebug. You can find the Firebug extension at https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions.php This allows you to see the information being passed to and retrieved from the XMLHttp Requests in a small pop-up window that can help alleviate any problems.
  25. Hi, After emails with Mel we have added extra "security" on the packages to try and avoid any need for the USP to get "creative". OK, we added some more tape around the boxes to prevent the glue from releasing but hey, you have to give us some points for "creativity"! Mel was issued a new set of posters F.O.C. and all other posters now ship with the improved "security" protection!
