  1. I have been using the the scriptmaster plugin for sometime on a previous Mac, specifically for the Rotate Image function. The instalation on the previous Mac would have been FMP12 advanced, Scriptmaster plugin from about Sept 2015, and Mac OS 10.11.xx My solution used the function pasted into the startup script and although it wasn't fast, worked fine. I have now made a new installation of the Scriptmater Plugin, v5.05 on a new Mac running OS 10.12.5, FMP advanced 13, and there are a couple of strange things that appear to be assocaited with Java: 1. When I launch FMP it does not come to the foreground. Instead the foreground application is Java... 2. When FMP is active, I see a Java application active in the dock. This wasnt the case in my prevous installation of Scriptmaster where (if it was active), Java was not a foreground/visible process 3. When I quit FMP, irrespective of whether the database that I was working on did or did not use a scriptmaster module or function, Java crashes and I get usual dialogue box "Java quit unexpectedly". I have put a copy of the crash report here. Any ideas as to what is going wrong? Thanks in advance
  2. I am using RotateImage to display rotated images in a container field. The images themselves are in an archive on the local machine. The plugin and function work, but make browsing through the database painfully slow compared to browsing through unrotated images via a layout that has a container field calculated from the raw (unrotated) URL. Obviously the plugin is doing some work when presenting new records and therefore some performance degradation may be expected, but is there any way to minimize this slow down? Some details: - Images are in .jpg format and I cannot change this - I am not specifying any background in the RotateImage function - Software: Filemaker Pro 12 adv, OS 10.10.3 - Hardware: MacBook Pro mid 2012, i7, 2.9GHz, 8GB, 256GB SSD Thanks in advance
  3. Lee, I have upgraded my profile, but it would be good if the site administrators could also upgrade the profile page to include Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) which is not on the drop down list of user operating systems ! jw
  4. I am trying to get instant web publishing running and it will not start up. When I try to turn it on via File/Sharing/Instant Web Publishing I get a couple of minutes of beachball followed by the error message "Filemaker cannot share files over the Web because Instant Web Publishing could not be started". I have repaired disk permissions; tried to get IWP going from an administrator account; tried several different databases; looked for the web.prefs file (which I can't find) in case it had become corrupted. Any hints? Has anyone managed to get IWP going under Maveriks? Thanks JW FMP: 12 advanced Mac OS: 10.9 Macbook pro 2.9ghz/8gb/i7

FM7, Mac OSx: cant get DSN to connect

hi Mluka Yes I did get this to work, but it took a LOT of effort. Best advice I got was from Jonathan Monroe at actual technologies who wrote this: "Thank you for contacting us. Our drivers let you use FileMaker (or Excel) as a front end to other databases via ODBC. We don't offer a product for using FMP as a data source, mainly because FileMaker Inc makes their own driver available for free. Even though the FileMaker ODBC driver isn't our product, we do have a set of instructions we give to people who ask us about it: 1. Download the "FileMaker 7 ODBC/JDBC update (Mac)" from the FileMaker website: http://www.filemaker.com/odbc 2. FMP 7 only (FMP 8 already has this installed): Follow the instructions in the included document "FM xDBC Update Read Me (English).pdf". To summarize, you'll copy the xDBC.fmplugin file and the xDBC Support folder (located in the "xDBC Plug-in" folder) into the following folder: /Applications/FileMaker Pro 7/Extensions/ 3. Copy the SequeLink.bundle file (located in the "ODBC Client Driver" folder) to the following folder: /Library/ODBC 4. Then you'll use the ODBC Administrator to add the driver. Press the Drivers tab, then press the Add button. Specify "SequeLink" for the driver name, and the following path for the Driver file name (you'll need to manually enter the path to the driver, since the ODBC Administrator won't allow you to browse inside a bundle): /Library/ODBC/SequeLink.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ivslk18.dylib 5. Using the ODBC Administrator, you'll need to manually enter the DSN parameter values, since the driver doesn't include a DSN setup assistant. Press the User DSN tab and then press the Add button, and enter the following Keyword / Value pairs: Host (IP address of the server - example: Port 2399 ServerDataSource (name of FMP database without the extension - example: Inventory) LoginID (optional) Password (optional) 6. You will need to enable ODBC sharing within FileMaker: a. Start FileMaker and open the database you specified for "ServerDataSource" in step 4 b. Select the menu FileMaker Pro -> Sharing -> ODBC/JDBC... c. On the FileMaker ODBC/JDBC Settings dialog, turn the ODBC/JDBC Sharing ON d. Select your database from the "Currently open files" list e. Select "All Users" in the "ODBC/JDBC access to file" area f. Press OK g. Restart FileMaker 7. You will also need the iODBC frameworks. These are available from www.iodbc.org, or, since you've installed the Actual Technologies ODBC drivers, then you already have them. 8. You should then be able to query your FMP database from Excel by selecting Data->Get External Data->New Database Query" What I found out in addition: - The DSN needs to be defined as System rather than User or it wont work - You can set the Host to "localhost" if the FM db is on the same machine as XL - In the configuration of the DSN I needed to set a User and a Username - Avoiding spaces in the names of both the FM db (the ServerDataSource) and the name of the DSN seemed to reduce complication, but might not be mandatory. How have you got on?
  6. I want to access FM7.03 data from Excel 2004 via ODBC, with everything on the same machine (running 10.3.9) - no network involved - and am getting nowhere. The ODBC driver from filemaker never manages to connect to the database, and when I try a test connect I get an error "HY000 [DataDirect][ODBC Sequelink driver][sequelink Client] TCP/IP host is not specified". I believe I have the driver and DSN correctly configured via the iODBC Data Source Administrator, and have followed the guidelines set out in FM's "ODBC and JDBC Developers Guide": The Host value is set to 'localhost', and have also tried with the same result. Port is set to 2399 ServerDataSource is set to the db file name (no spaces or dblbyte charatcters), the database is open, ODBC/JDBC sharing is on, the account has sufficient privileges correct priviliges are set via the finder for the xDBC components. There is no other version of filemaker running (though FM6 is present on the machine and it has sharing disabled). Any ideas? Thanks
  7. I am trying to create a portal based on a relationship that looks at two fields in a file, one of which is generated from another existing self-relationship. However I can't, as apparently the field that already depends on the slef relationship cannot be indexed. Is there any way around this problem? In the attached example, the relationship I want to create would look at "UniqueProjBud" and "Unique key". But UniqueProjBud is already a result of a self-relation (that returns 1 or 0 depending on the uniqueness of the record) and thus the new relationship then will not work. Grateful for any tips jw testdb.fp5.zip

    Double summary in portal?

I have not yet given up on this one. In the attached I have made some extra fields, "UniqueProjBud" which has value 1 for the project of interest and the first occurance of a particular budget line. "Unique key" always has value 1 and CostProjBud which sums the Cost of a pudget line for the project. So, I can make a portal based on the relationship UniqueProjBud=Unique key and this will return the records I want. In the portal I can then display CostProjBud and "Budget Line". Or maybe I can't..... there is now an indexing issue and I cant make any working relationship based on the field UniqueProjBud Clearly it would not be difficult to make a find script that would return the records, but I specifically want a portal solution. Any ideas? Failing that is therr any way to make a script run on exiting from a particular field (not clicking a button) Thanks jw testdb.fp5.zip

    Double summary in portal?

I am trying to do something that may not be possible. Any help much appreciated. In attached file is a list of cost (in the "data" layout), each assigned to a project and budget line. The layout "summary" allows costs for any one project to be shown in a portal (via a self join relationship) and the total cost for that project displayed below. All OK so far. I want to be able to show costs in a portal for the given search project, but summarised by budget line, ie there should be one line in the portal for each budget line for which that project has costs, and the associated cost value should sum all the cost items for that project under that budget line. ie for project One, the portal should show Equip 25 and Fee 8, nothing else. Have all sorts of things with no success to date. any hints? this looks simple enough to be possible, but.... I am basically trying to do in FM what I might otherwise do in an Excel pivot table via an odbc link. testdb.fp5.zip
  10. update.... got that to work (see attached), thanks Queue. The key field returns 1 or 0 depending whether the number in the data is a first occurance. I like scriptless solutions and although this is just as effective as the solution proposed by Lee, this seems simpler. unique.fp5.zip
  11. ok. any help appreciated. when I try what Queue suggests I just get a circular calc warning..... jw

FMP7 value list from related repeating field

hmmmm. when i first started doing stuff in filemaker that was marginally above elementary someone warned me to avoid repeating fields on principle, essentially on the grounds of compatibility and ability to exchange data with other apps. I now find myself rather a long way down the wrong road..... Anyway, I posted a bug report on the issue via the FM website. Is there anything more I should do, apart from be patient?
  13. I am trying to convert several dbs from FM6 to FM7 and have got stuck on a value list problem. In the db a value list is obtained from a related field with multiple (up to 4) repetitions. In FM6 this works just fine and the value list returned includes all of the data in the related field, incl that in repetitions of the related field. In FM7 however the list returned contains ONLY the values in the first repetition of the related field and those values in the 2nd 3rd and 4th repetitions of the related field are not included in the value list. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? any help much appreciated jw
  14. Queue, I see your logic but dont see how to do it in practice. can you make an example (using the 8 record sample i gave in my first post) and post as an attachement? I see you use fmp5 and an example in this version is ok thanks jw
  15. translates just fine to fm7.... and ends up as follows. note that some of the formulae get changed in the process but functionality is retained. many thanks lee for your help. jw Show All Records Sort Records [ Speci?ed Sort Order: SampleScriptforJW::cSortField; ascending ] [ Restore; No dialog ] Go to Record/Request/Page [ First ] Set Field [ SampleScriptforJW::gScriptTemp.txt; SampleScriptforJW::YourNumberField ] Go to Record/Request/Page [ Next; Exit after last ] Loop If [ SampleScriptforJW::gScriptTemp.txt = GetAsText(SampleScriptforJW::YourNumberField) ] If [ Get(RecordNumber) = Get(FoundCount) ] Set Field [ SampleScriptforJW::gScriptTemp.txt; SampleScriptforJW::YourNumberField ] Go to Record/Request/Page [ Previous ] If [ SampleScriptforJW::gScriptTemp.txt = GetAsText(SampleScriptforJW::YourNumberField) ] Go to Record/Request/Page [ Next ] Omit Record End If?Unsort Records?Go to Record/Request/Page[ First ] Exit Script End If?Omit Record?Else Set Field [ SampleScriptforJW::gScriptTemp.txt; SampleScriptforJW::YourNumberField ] Go to Record/Request/Page [ Next; Exit after last ] End If End Loop Unsort Records Go to Record/Request/Page [ First ]
