  1. Why not use a pop-up menu instead of a list? Cheers, Murray
  2. You can do it if you type as text directly onto the layout and make a button from the desired word, but I'm not sure that you can do it from a standard text field. You can make a whole field into a button so you may be able to have a workaround with this method, depending on what you are actually trying to do. There may be a plug-in but someone with more experience is bound to have a definitive answer for you. Cheers, Murray

Print Dialog missing "Copies & Pages" in OS X

I have this problem on 2 machines running FMP 6.04 and MacOS10.2.6 but the same problem preceeded this when running 9.2.2. I thought it may have been linked to HP printer software as another symptom occurred at tyhe same time when going to layout view - the top half of the tools palette was replaced or overlaid by a graphic that is part of the HP printer "Image Quality" dialog. If I change the printer and/or presets while these symptoms are occurring, FMP crashes. I haven't had time to check it out more specifically as I need the printer drivers and I also haven't upgraded to 10.2.8 yet as I won't have time to sort things out if there is a problem with the upgrade. I'll get a chance to sort it out in the next month or so. I'll be following this thread with interest. Murray
  4. See if these files make sense to you - I have adapted them from a previous post. In the data file have the container field you use as your image display a related container from the images file. That way, the image that has an ID with the same number will be displayed. This is good if your image ever changes, as it will automatically show the new image. I have also included a looked-up field to store the image - this is more durable and won't change with any change in the original image unless you do a relookup. Try pasting a new image into an existing record in the images.fp5 file and then have a look at a record in the data.fp5 file that uses that image - one of these methods will probably suit you better than the other. Anyway, I hope this helps. I've attached the file. Cheers, Murray imagerel.zip
  5. Thanks -Queue-. I had read that twice but at 2.00 am it seemed a lot more confusing than it does now. Thanks Lee that is going to work. All entries are adults so basically once I have isolated all of the 2000+ dates I will do a "Replace" using your calc. Thanks again, Murray
  6. Thanks for that input - I'll give it a go. I was a bit dubious about the Date(**) function as I am using Australian formats (dd/mm/yyyy) and FMP lists it as Date(month, day, year) - I wasn't sure if it would interpret my entries in that format or whether it would adjust for my format. I'll give it a go anyway. Cheers, Murray

    cursor in unwanted field

Instead of going into find mode, make the button perform a script that first enters find mode, and then use the Go to Field script step (under "Navigation" in scriptmaker) and select the field that you would generally like to go to (if there is one). I think that if the cursor isn't in a field when you enter find mode, it will go somewhere by default and I suspect that this will be the field that is first in the tab order (a quick experiment should confirm or refute this). You may want to change the tab order to deal with this (Layout Mode -> Layouts -> Set Tab Order). Hope this helps. Cheers, Murray
  8. I've just imported a few thousand records from and FP3 file which seems that the data entry was in year 2 digit form, and all the dates of birth have changed to 20** instead of the expected 19** form. I've been trying to find a way revert it to it's original form but as easy as I thought it would be, I can't seem to do it. Is there an easy way that someone can help me with? Much appreciated. Cheers, Murray
  9. This is a duplicate post. There is another thread here following your question.

displaying container fields from a related record

I had a play as much to test myself out as I'm a newbie myself and I've attached what seems to work. Assuming that the reference you type in always has a 3 digit number, use a calc to strip this off and match this to an ID field in your images file (if the image name has a 3 digit number, use this for clarity but otherwise assign it manually). In you data file have the container field you use as your image display a related container from the images file. That way, the image that has an ID with the same number will be displayed. This is good if your image ever changes, as it will automatically show the new image. I have also included a looked up field to store the image - this is more durable and won't change with any change in the original image unless you do a relookup. One of these methods will probably suit you better than the other. If you want you can make your recordID in your image file the same as the value that the user will be inputing and make that the match for your relationship. It may help to have the user input via a dropdown menu to avoid any incorrect entries. You can make this value list from the record ID in your image file if you want (see example). If you have 200 records already, you can add a record ID and use the "Replace" menu option to set this ID with the last 3 digits of your image names, rather than doing them manually (again assuming that your naming protocol is strict). However as long as the correct ID is assigned to match the data entry in your data file, you can call the mages whatever you like - but hey, neat and tidy is best! Anyway, I hope this helps. I've attached the files - (I think it works OK!!). Keep plugging away at it - 90% of my posts are questions. Cheers, Murray imagerel.zip

    figure keyboard

You may want to delete your duplicate posts. These forums are actually 1 forum split into sections - generally everyone looks at everything through the "24hrs" link. One post is enough to get through and helps keep all the answers under one thread. Unfortunately I have no real idea how to help with your question except there is a "Number Lock" key on some Windows keyboards (I am on a Mac) and this may have something to do with it. I don't think FMP can control this. Good luck, Murray

    Changing the date format

Try this - it's not very elegant but it works. I'm positive there is a neater more compact solution. The "Proper" function just accounts for irregularities in the case of the entered data. As for scripting, look for all the unlocked examples that you can find on these forums and look at their scripts. I'm very much a learner myself and it is often possible to achieve a result with a calc rather than a script. Good luck, Murray date.zip

    Changing the date format

If the date is in a field and the field is defined as a date field, you can change the displayed date by using the Format->Date settings. If it is a text field, perhaps you can try using the Substitute function combined with Case function in a calculation that will substitute "01" for Jan, "02" for Feb etc. This will work if the value is always "Feb" but if the Month varies in it's value (Feb, February, Feb'y etc), you may need to do a PatternCount on "Feb" to set the substitution, accounting for different variations which may occur which will get messy. You may better to use the '/' as a position to strip the value to the left and substitute that. Hope this is a start - I suspect someone will come up with a foolproof method. Good luck. Murray
  14. You can resize the window in a number of ways using scripts - Toggle Window (Zoom) to the size of the most bottom right corner of the most bottom right object on your page, or Toggle Window (Maximise) which will fill the screen. In your case though, if you used the same layout, on a larger resoultion screen if you maximise, the image will stay in the top left corner and the rest of the layout will be the background colour you have set for your layout. Unfortunately FM can't change object positioning on layouts on the fly, so you will have to design different layouts for each screen resolution. You would then need to include a startup script that identified the user's screen resolution (have a look in FM Help under the Status functions - Status(Current ScreenWidth) or Status(CurrentScreenHeight) and then a Go to Layout script step that takes the user to the layout you created specifically for that screen resolution. Hope that helps. Have fun in the forums. Cheers, Murray

    Dialog Boxes

This feature is available in FMP 6 - the "Show Custom Dialog" script step. There are 3 input fields that you can use. I'm not sure if it is available in 5 or 5.5 - I know it's relatively recent. Cheers, Murray
