  1. PERFECT!! Just removing that folder /Users/Shared/FileMaker resets the licence so on re-opening of FM it presents you with the TRIAL / BUY / ENTER LICENCE option again. No actual need to uninstall.
  2. Hoping someone might have the answer to this. I have two new copies of FM19. I installed on 2 machines (Catalina) but like an idiot accidentality used the same licence key on both machines. Not a problem I thought, just trash the app on one machine and delete the <home>/Library/Preferences/com.filemaker.client.pro12.plist then reinstall and enter the second key (as per Claris instructions). But no! each time I reinstall it does NOT ask me for the licence key but automatically picks up the originally entered key. So I am kind of stuck. Does anyone know what other files n
  3. As some of the previous posters mentioned (and from many other posts across the web) I'm not sure exactly what the issue is that causes FM to sometimes (not always) not recognise the Get(ActiveModifierKeys). I only use Get(ActiveModifierKeys) in loops, basically to stop a loop, so I don't know if it is only an issue with using Get(ActiveModifierKeys) repetitively in a loop (other peoples experiences suggest this is not the case, that Get(ActiveModifierKeys) can fail in any situation), but I never used to have an problem before. I tried various methods of using Get(ActiveModifierKey
  4. Although an old thread I only just recently started to running into this problem after years of it working with no issue. I was using the CAPS LOCK key to stop a looped script. The workaround I found was to use an applescript within the FM loop to check if the CAPS LOCK key was pressed and return the result to a global field in the database (called CAPSLOCK), and then had a step in the FM script to check that field to determine whether the script should exit. Applescript below plus screenshot of how I placed it in the FM Script. Commented out in the applescript is some code for
  5. Fantastic - that was exactly what I was looking for and works! As to the reason why.... I'm an artist who sells their artwork on Etsy and several other sites. In my database the Artwork Table contains a record of all my artworks (16000+). Each artwork can have up to 30 different sizes available. When a certain size is ordered I create the digital file of the artwork and send it to my printers. I then add the filename to the relevant record in the Artwork Table so that I know what I have already sent and do not have to create or resend the same file again. (The resizing/renaming/movin
  6. Hello. I need to find a way to extract a value from a valuelist based on a partial match only. For example, the valuelist contains the following data: r123-A2 s123-12x16 t123-50x70 If my search value on the list was "12x16", I would want "s123-12x16" to be returned from the calculation. There would not be any circumstance where more than one match was possible. There would also be the possibility of no matches. Hopefully someone can help as I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. I'm able to do it if I know the exact match, but I can't find a way t
  7. When I get a chance to re-do this database I will be using layout objects etc - this was a case of trying to find a solution to fit the existing structure of the database to make a quick fix. More importantly to me, I really wanted to know how to form a Custom Function to be able to remove duplicate items from a text structure in this format. I certainly better understand that now and I can see also now how I can adapt this Custom Function for similar cleaning of text blocks (text copied to fields rather than calculations built from relationships and tables). This is primarily where the "abso
  8. Hi comment - absolutely perfect with the Custom Function, exactly what I was after!
  9. I probably will use a portal instead. However my desire now is to know if a custom function could do this - so, forget for a minute that the text being worked on has come from a related field or where it's going to be displayed. Let's say it was just a block of text that was copied into a field from a word document - how could a custom function clean it up like I require?: So from this... 10/24/2015 06:00 Alpha 10/24/2015 07:00 Beta 10/24/2015 07:00 Charlie 10/31/2015 06:50 Delta 10/31/2015 07:30 Echo to this... 10/24/2015 06:00 Alpha
  10. It's only being displayed on a layout for print (screenshot attached) but the fields showing are only shown if relevant which is why I think it was set up the way it was. Here's the calculation which pulls it all together (there's other ones as well for other printed pages which all run on from each other): TextSize ( TextStyleAdd ( "Event Concept" & "¶" & TextColor ( "_____________________________________________________________________________________________" ;RGB (200;200;200)) ; Bold ) ; 10 ) & "¶¶" & TextStyleRemove ( Event_Brief ; Bold ) & //If ( not IsE
  11. Sorry, on V14 so updated my profile now. Unfortunately I can't upload the DB - it's one that my brothers' ex-partner did for him and he just needs this specific change. Ideally I'd redo the whole thing from scratch, when I have the time, and will be able to avoid the above problems you have mentioned. IN the meantime though I need to find a solution that will fit into the existing way the DB has been structured, so in this case the Custom Function to clean that block of text. Also the inquisitive side of me now wants to know if it is actually possible to not to do it via a custom function, e
  12. Thank you for your responses - This is for a report but that block of text I'm trying to clean up is combined with many other calculated blocks of text in a single calculation which also styles the text. The single big calculation collating all the text appears the only way to achieve the layout and design required for the report, hence the requirement to be able to clean up that particular text block using a custom function.
  13. I've been trying to adjust a custom function "removeduplicates" from the brian dunning site to do the following.... I have a calculated field which returns a list collated from a relationship in the form of a block of text. It has 3 items per line - date, time and subject - each element separated by a tab, and each line with a carriage return 10/24/2015 06:00 Alpha 10/24/2015 07:00 Beta 10/24/2015 07:00 Charlie 10/31/2015 06:50 Delta 10/31/2015 07:30 Echo What I want returned is... 10/24/2015 06:00 Alpha 07:00 Beta
  14. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that when using the LIst(field) function to combine multiple records into one field, that the sort order was meant to be defined by the sort order set in the relationship. I've had this working before, but for some reason it doesn't seem to want to do it anymore, and is always reverting back to the order of when the records were generated. I've attached an example here, where i eneterd the data in this order: ONE, THREE, FIVE, TWO, FOUR (with each record having a number field corrsponding to the word to use to sort on: 1,3,5,2,4).
  15. Unfortunately that only part works. Yes the field gets the given background shade set in the conditional formatting when entering FIND mode, but as soon as you click in the field, it reverts to the base background color. Any other possible options?
