  1. Thanks

Your post got it done. - Artbyhill

  2. There are two ways to do it. You can create a script and in that script setup the things you want to always happen when the file opens, which includes the "Go To Layout" script step. Then go to "File Options" under the "File" menu (might be the Application menu on Mac sorry I am on a PC) then the File Options window pops up with things to do on Open/Close so then you just add the script to the "Perform script:" section of "When opening this file" If all you want is a layout that someone goes to each time the file opens then you could just set it in the "File Options" by checking "Switch to Layout:" Hope that helps. 3. I was really happy to find this post. Then I went to try it in 11 and nothing referenced was the same. Has anyone tried this with FMSA 11 and gotten it to work?
  4. Inno Setup works great as a setup program. I haven't yet figured out how to configure it to include the Microsoft Visual C++ package but I don't think it should be too hard. I assume this happened because of the way they Compiled Filemaker so that it could be certified for Windows 7, which is a big selling point of the new version. IMHO
  5. Thanks Barbara. The demo file had exactly what I needed. Kevin
  6. Thanks I just did a search on Matt's site and found a post related to this idea also. I will take a look at them. Thanks for the pointer.
  7. I would like to create a script that would grab the record ID of all the records that have a checkbox field set put that into a variable and then set the contents of the variable to a field in a new record. There are times when it would be one record but others when it would be two or more. My thought is the end result will be a field with values separated by a return. The checkbox field is either a 1 or blank. Thanks for any assistance. Kevin
  8. I had thought of that a few years ago, and something didn't work out, but now I can't for the life of me remember why. I should look into that again. Thanks Kevin
  9. I wouldn't want it to be influenced by the found set, but that just might not be possible. There is really only one user at a time so duplicate values at this stage are not a problem but it is good to always keep that in mind.
  10. It is going to act as an ID, but not the only one. There is an absolute ID that is a standard serial number, but what I need this to do is be a bid number but the users sometimes start a new record and then delete it so the bid numbers have holes and they are really tired of those holes. I am trying to recreate what other Databases do with serial numbers by only incrementing on the highest number.
  11. Is there a calculation that would allow me to get the highest value in a field and then ad 1. I can't think of a function that I could use to get the highest value in the dataset. Thanks Kevin
  12. I have read a lot of Filemaker books through the years, and I haven't really come across any that relate things back to Access. If you are really strong in relational database design you might consider picking up the Filemaker 10 Bible. It focuses a lot on how you follow standard relational design in Filemaker, which tends to be a little more advanced than things covered in the Missing manual.
  13. I just had this issue in FMPA10 on Win7. I had two computers both on the same network, both Win7 one had no problem opening files on a remote host, and one that couldn't see any of the shared files. I copied the ssl file from the working computer to the other computer and the problem was fixed. Big thanks to Rick Stringer for finding this thread!
  14. Thanks for the link, that looks like it might have some potential.
  15. I was asked a question on a support forum for Non-Profit businesses about displaying grandchildren records rolled up to a child record via a portal. Here is the desired result: This is on a Parent of Donor... My first thought was to use the List function but that wouldn't give the desired effect of grouping the data, but I am not sure there is another way to accomplish the desired design. Any ideas? Thanks Kevin
