    Formstack XML

AHHHHH!! I've wasted your time and mine over FileMaker's inability to make secure data connections! Yep my xslt worked, but I never tried it from a local xml file as it was just easier to put in Formstack's URL... I have learned a bit about XML, so not all is lost, but for my work, if it 'ain't secure then it 'aint gonna happen! Thanks for all who tried to help, especially "comment" who's tricky handle still makes me laugh!

    Formstack XML

    OK so I'm simplifying this Formstack down to one item, text so I can at least get something out. But still no luck. The XML validates but I still get the same cryptic FM message. Ahh I aslo see that "comment" is the contributor... funny! <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> 0 with source file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> 36686360 2010-08-05 11:43:24 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.1 Safari/533.17.8 9697119 text1 36686366 2010-08-05 11:43:37 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.1 Safari/533.17.8 9697119 text2 2 1

    Formstack XML

Ahh thanks for the pointers... not going to get far if I'm being inconsistent... While the structure of the XML suggests a child table, it is in fact a single record, why FormStack generates the XML like this I wouldn't know. The record is a single survey, the basic information is well formed, but the actual three core responses are embedded as: 9697119 try1 9697123 Jan 02, 2007 01:01 AM 9697127 5 I'm only after the the value label content, but the problem is each value is a different type, Text, date and time,Number... I thought this would be a simple exercise. hmmm

    Formstack XML

I'm struggling with my first dabble at XML importing to FM. I read some docs, tried this intro intro and it sort of made sense, so I ran it against my Formstack XML source but it just comes up with an error XML parsing error: unable to open primary document entity'' Clearly not working, so I tried to roll my own, and that has got me stuck... I was trying to adapt comment's contribution but I'm stuck on how Formstack integrates the data, specifically the three questions in the form. I want to gather both the submission data as well as the three custom fields. This is my trying to learn the ropes on a simple test form so I can try it on other FormStack forms... but I'm not even making forts base, any pointers appreciated! Here is the roll my own stumble... and getting stuck: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> 0 And here is the XML source: 1<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> 2 3 4 5 36647233 6 2010-08-04 10:05:13 7 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.1 Safari/533.17.8 8 9 10 11 12 9697119 13 try1 14 15 16 9697123 17 Jan 02, 2007 01:01 AM 18 19 20 9697127 21 5 22 23 24 25 26 36657999 27 2010-08-04 14:36:49 28 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.1 Safari/533.17.8 29 30 31 32 33 9697119 34 test2 35 36 37 9697123 38 Jan 02, 2005 01:02 PM 39 40 41 9697127 42 5 43 44 45 46 47 2 48 1 49undefined
  5. I'd like to be able to embed a clickable URL in the PDF output so the user can go to various web sites. I don't think this is possible in FileMaker, but I hope I'm wrong!
  6. Excellent! This aprses the jsp version of the USPS adress validator. And certainly works well enough. I was interested in how to approach the USPS xml request response APIs but it would seem there are some "usage agreement" issues so this works well enough, in fact it works which is way better than the xml approach. I'm going to play with this solution for the moment and explore the API's later Thanks again!!!
  7. I'm looking at the USPS's Web Tools™ API for address standardization and it seems a pretty straight forward XML request response loop but as I'm a lazy guy I'm wondering if anyone else had done this already? Given that I've never seen the solution out there, what sort of pitfalls might I get trying to implement it in FM? Thanks Oh, for those who might be interested the details can be found at: USPS Web Tool APIs
  8. Delicious Library is a very cool app, and one of the things we acquired for using it was a Flic Cordless scanner. Works great with Delicious but I can't seem to get it to work with FM. Has anybody had any success?
  9. Had the same problem myself, unbelievable that any DBA would have a table without unique id... My solution was to have the dba (this was an Oracle system for a Higher Ed student information system) do a view that had a rownum/id column added... of course I can never be assured that 0001 will always be one but can be assured of no explosions... a compromise sure but you do what you have to do with legacy systems/people ;-)
  10. I'm struggling with a way to look at "pre-requisites" as a relationship between a Student table and a class rooster. Essentially, I'm trying find who those students that have not taken a pre-req class but who are currently enrolled in the course The student table has the PK set as STUD_ID and the Class-roster table has the STUD_ID as well as the CLASS_ID but I'm stymied on how to set up a relationship that shows only those students who have not taken the prereq. Lost... any pointers accepted!
  11. Wow, I didn't expect to see so much discussion on my little validation problem. Thank you all for making my kludge a little less kludgey and clarifying the "If" and "Case" issue. The reason why I have to use such painful customer numbers is due to the legacy Oracle system and someone else's choice for 9 digits, the "C" really gets my goat... Once more, thanks all!
  12. I was under the impression that "case" are marginally better than "if" for some reason I can't remember, or am I mistaken? Anyways I could only get the if statement work as If( Left(CUSTNUMBER;4) = "C000" and Length(CUSTNUMBER) = "10" and Length(Filter(CUSTNUMBER; "1234567890")) = "9" ; "1";"0")
  13. I've created a validation calculation for looking up or entering a subset of newer customers and am wondering if I could have achieved this more elegantly? Or worse that there is an error I;m not picking up! The Customer numbers follow a standard format of a letter C followed by 9 digits where the first three numbers are always 0 (C000######) Case ( Length ( CUSTNUMBER ) ≠ "10" ; "0" ; Left ( CUSTNUMBER ; "4" ) ≠ "C000"; "0"; Exact ( Right ( CUSTNUMBER ; 6 ) ; Filter (Right ( CUSTNUMBER ; 6 ) ; "0123456789") ) ≠ "1"; "0"; "1") I am trying to ensure that the user always has 10 chars, with the 4 left chars always being "C000" while the the right 6 chars are always integers. Any ideas?
  14. Yep, and I don't see any issue... neither crashing with web-viewer (my use is to use google map to check addresses via some address fields) nor installation problems with Filemaker Server 9 Advanced... no problems and that includes all the various web publishing approaches. Go figure.
  15. I have a script that basically creates a new related record in a table, but before it does that it checks to see if there is not already a "new" record (really incomplete data entry) ... all this works fine however one I go to the layout and create a new record the primary key identifier data is reset to empty and the paste just pastes anything I have in my clipboard... This all worked fine until yesterday... and I can't see why but it goes bad at line 11 1 Set Field [ Participants::Participant_RecordID ] 2 If [ Determinations Incomplete::Determination_Status_FK = "0" ] 3 Show Custom Dialog [ Title: "Invalid Choice"; Message: "An unfinshed determination already exists."; Buttons: “OK” ] 4 Go to Related Record [ From table: “Determinations Incomplete”; Using layout: “Add Determination” (Determinations) ] 5 Exit Script [ ] 6 Else 7 Copy [ Participants::Participant_RecordID ] [ Select ] 8 Show Custom Dialog [ Title: "Determination Type"; Message: "Select the determination type"; Buttons: “Cancel”, “Full”, “Declined” ] 9 If [ Get ( LastMessageChoice ) = 2 ] 10 Go to Layout [ “Add Determination” (Determinations) ] 11 New Record/Request 12 Paste [ Determinations::Client ID ] [ Select; No style ] 13 Go to Next Field Enter Browse Mode Else If [ Get ( LastMessageChoice )= 3 ] Go to Layout [ “Determination_Decline_no_Show” (Determinations) ] New Record/Request Paste [ Determinations::Client ID ] [ Select; No style ] Insert Text [ Determinations::Determination_Status_FK; “2” ] [ Select ] Go to Next Field Else Go to Layout [ original layout ] End If Adjust Window [ Resize to Fit ] Enter Browse Mode End If Maybe there is a better way to do this anyways, but I'm drawing a blank.... Thanks
