  1. Hi, I have a layout to let users input data. At the top of the layout there are some checkboxes. I want to hide or show some fields based on the boxes users checked so the layout will not get too long. I am still using FM 9. Is there anyway I can do that? If not, can it happen with FM 11? Thank you. Please help!
  2. Ok, I know how to highlight a row now. The way I plan to work on this problem is to setup a script and add a new field called highlightMe in the portal table. Every time when the first two fields of a new row are added (Field A and AA) to the portal, I will loop through the whole portal. If I find an existing record in the portal with the same fields A and AA, I will change this record's HighlightMe to some number so the conditional format will work. I feel this is definite not the best way to handle it. Can self relationship help here? How can I change the value of HighlightMe field by setup a self relationship? Thanks.
  3. Hi, I have a portal for users to input data. After users input the first two fields, I want to do a search to see if there are any existing records in the portal have the same values in these two fields and then highlight the existing record for users. My problems are: 1. I don't know how to highlight something in portal. 2. How do I trigger the script when user leave field two? Currently I am using FMP 9, I heard FMP10 can do that but I don't plan to update at this time. Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. I think I can come up with something like this. Thank you.
  5. Thank you for your responses. I am using FileMaker Pro 9. I don’t think my user can figure out to click the continue button to open the print dialog. They want some thing more consistent, like the buttons they have in other layouts. Maybe I will upgrade to 10.
  6. Hi, thank you for your help. First of all, when I edit the privilege set, I set the available menu commands to minimum so the print menu is not available for the users. Usually I add a print button to the layout so users can print the layout if they want to. But i have a summary report which displays in preview mode, how do I add something similar to make the users able to print? I really want to have the control of if they can print or not because I don't want to them to print some layout. Thanks in advance for your help.
  7. This forum has helped me greatly. I am trying to find a simple solution to my problem and thanks in advance for all your help. I am working on a time sheet database where employees can input their time spent on different tasks. On one layout, I have a portal for them to input their time. I created part of the first two records for them to input LUNCH or BREAK. So the first record is for LUNCH only and they need to add time they spend on LUNCH and the second record is BREAK only. For the rest of the portal, they can adding different tasks from a drop down list, like WEB CHECKING, EDITING, and add time spent on that task. I want the first 2 records for LUNCH and BREAK only. Is there any way I can lock the task type for the first 2 records (but they need be able to add time) and let users pick the task type in the rest of the portal? Thank you.
  8. Excellent. Thank you very much.
  9. Hi, This should be a very simple question, but I just can't figure it out. I setup a portal with "Alternate background fill" check. It looks nice when I look at it. If I need to add records into the portal, some rows' alternate color just disappeared. The whole portal looks inconsistent, some with all white and some part has alternate color. Is there any way to make the portal nice during record entry? Thank you very much for your help.
  10. Thank you for your quick help. Is there anyway I can run a script based on mouse click away from the cell? I assume I have to make a script to recalculate the total? Thanks.
  11. I am creating a timesheet database where employees can input time they spend on each project everyday. I use a portal and each row is actually data from another table called timesheet element. proj. Mon. Tue. Wed. Thur. Fri. Proj. Total A 20 30 20 200 20 350 B 100 100 10 C 200 Day Total Proj. Total is a calculation field in timesheet element. It recalculate every time I click away from a cell so it always shows the updated number of time spent on a specific project, which is what I want. Day total is a summary field from timesheet element and it does not work as I wanted. My questions are; 1. If I type a number and then click away from the portal, the summary field will show but I want it to update the number if I click another cell in the portal. How can I make it work? 2. If I type a number, then click another cell in the portal (nothing happened to the summary field) and then click outside the portal, the summary field seems like confused and it becomes blank. Why is this happening? I thought it is very common to have summary field so people can find the total of something from a portal but I couldn’t find anything from the forum. Your help is greatly appreciated.
  12. Thank you all for your responses. But I checked everything and it is still acting like that. I am using FM9.0v3. More suggestions please! Thanks
  13. Hi, I used to import data from repeating fields using FM6. It only imports data when the fields are not empty. Let's say RepeatingField(1) to RepeatingField(3) are not empty and RepeatingField(4) to RepeatingField(20) are empty. I will end up having 3 new records because I choose the "Splitting them into separate records" option. The problem is, in FM9, I end up having 20 records even though 17 of them are blank. Am I missing something here? Thank you for your help.
  14. Hi all, I am using FileMaker 6 and I have a question for all the experts here. I have a file working great standalone. Once I hosted this file on the server, it shuts down the filemaker program everytime I open it. Can anyone please help me with this? Thank you so much
