  1. Hi, I've been trying to incorporate the test methods into the present "solution", but can't seem to get anywhere. Can anyone help me out here? new_transaction_test.zip
  2. Hi raybaudi, I wouldn't if this is exactly what I'm incorporating into my solution, but this is a mock test that I had made up to test incrementation. I tried using the same method yesterday in what I'm actually trying to do, but I buck against a wall again. I am actually trying to do an automatic scan of upc codes for a retail solution. Since the solution is in a portal and is linked to a line items file, it is somewhat different from a self-joined file. I am still working on it, altering a few steps, trying to figure out where the differences are and why it's not working as yet.
  3. Thanks a lot raybaudi, this is exactly what I've been trying to accomplish! I altered the script a little (by adding a loop) as I wanted it to open a new record automatically. I currently set a script to read "If field = '#', go to last record and delete it". I had wanted to end the script automatically by pressing an "end" button, but have not been able to do that. Again, thanks so much!
  4. Thanks Raybaudi, What you have there isn't exactly what I need. I've included a copy of my file here. You will see that I have figured out a way to increment by the number of times the name is entered, but I have not been able to figure out how to delete the duplicate copies. For example, amongst others, I currently have the following in 3 records: Name Number of Times Jim 1 Jim 2 Jim 3 I only want to retain the record with "Jim" as the name and "3" as the number of times (as I have entered the name 3 times), but don't want the other 2. Any help would be appreciated! test_number_of_times.zip
  5. Can someone show me how to do incrementation? There is a file with the field "name" and the field "number of times" in it. When "Tom" is entered into the file the first time, the number 1 would appear in the "number of times" field. When "Tom" is entered again into the file (as a separate record), the "number of times" change to 2. I want to be able to not have a second record, but instead have one record with the 'number of times' as 2. Thanks.
  6. For retail point of sale solution, we want to be able to scan item after item without having to click 'New' to create a new record, and without having to input the quanity (quantity remains at one for every scan, which is easy to set). And if the same item gets scanned in again, the program can automatically group it together with the other item and increment the quantity however much. She also mentioned that Walmart has a cool system where if they have an item on sale for 2.95 each and 2 for 5.00, if one is scanned in, the price comes up as 2.95, but if a second one gets scanned in, the second price would come up as 2.05 (2.95 + 2.05 = 5.00). Can anybody give me some pointers here as to how this can be done, maybe in the define fields, define scripts area, regarding automatically bringing up a new record when one item has been scanned in, and regarding the grouping? All suggestions would be much appreciated.
  7. Hi, In one file, I have records with a description field with entries like: - 11" Fashion Doll - My Happy Family Doll House Set - Tiny Doll House Play Set - Printed Nylon Drawstring Bag - Toiletries Bag w/ Plastic Containers I want to be able to look up words in this file from another file and be able to have all matches displayed in that second file. If words can be typed at random (not "sequential", for example, nylon bag, happy doll, bag containers, and have the matching entries found, that would be exactly what I want. I know that if I am searching within the same file (ctrl > F to perform a find in the description field), all entries containing the random words would show up in the found set. But I don't know how to look it up from another file. Is this possible? If yes, can anyone show me how? Thanks.
  8. LaRetta, Lee, or anyone else who may have viewed my files, I have another problem (Lee, I'm not sure if it's ok to post it here as a followup to my previous question or I need to add another post), the manager here does not like the "solution" I've created. She wants to be able to scan item after item without having to click 'New' to create a new record, and without having to input the quanity (quantity remains at one for every scan, which is easy to set). Can anybody give me some pointers here as to how I can modify what I have here, maybe in the define fields, define scripts area, regarding automatically bringing up a new record when one item has been scanned in, and regarding the grouping? Or maybe even some other "cool" feature which you think may be helpful. All suggestions would be much appreciated.
  9. Thanks LaRetta. It works! Now why haven't I thought of that before?
  10. Yes, Lee, I do see them in preview also. However, you may notice that even in the preview, the body extends for some ways down before you would see the footer. The dot matrix receipt printer I have (I guess like all other receipt printers) stops printing right after it senses the "last" line of printing. In my printing tests, the last line printed on the receipt paper is for the line "Total". Then the printing stops. Is the setting for the "body" faulty in some way? Is there a ways to shrink that space between the last line in the body and the first line in the footer?
  11. Lee, Pls take a look at my files. Thanks. Retail_Price_Files.zip
  12. I am trying to print a sales receipt. The header and body print out, but the footer part containing the date, time, and receipt number just won't print. Can anyone help me out here?
  13. Thanks mr_vodka. I have seen your files and did get some ideas from them. I don't really need another file to hold the log but just like to have things "organized" - separated as a different file.
  14. I am sorry if I am not grasping this. I have tried setting a relationship based on 'receipt number', but related records in the other file have not been created and I can't figure out why. I have also tried the record number method. I set the record number to '1' and it maps to the other file, then I can set the date, price & receipt number fields. Since each line item is a record itself in the retail work file, I have tried setting a record number at the end when the receipt gets printed. I then tried creating a new record in the daily log file and incrementing the record number by one to differentiate it from the first receipt log, but it doesn't seem to work. I think I've been staring at this file too much so my mind seems to freeze up. If you can show me an example I would really appreciate it.
  15. Hello, I have a price file that stores the upc/barcode, the description and price. I have a retail work file that I can scan the product barcode or upc code in to pull up the price from the price file, and there's also a daily log file in which I have only the fields for date, receipt number and total. Yes, I've thought about it and want to use the receipt number as the link between the retail work file and the daily log file. But the receipt number is not a sequential one. It is a combination of date, time and cashier number so it doesn't quite follow the one generated before it. I'm not quite sure what relationship to set so that the date, receipt number as well as price can be pulled from the retail work file and set into the daily log file.
  16. I have set my retail point of sale solution to print a receipt for the customer. But I want to save the date, receipt number and the total to another file, to log the amount for each transaction and to keep a record of the sales for each day. I currently have a relationship via the "date" field, but only the first transaction in that date gets copied over. I am thinking about setting a portal on the other file but can't figure out what relationship to use to map both files. Can anybody give me some pointers on how to do this?
  17. Thank you. I have been struggling with this problem for some days. But right after posting my problem, I suddenly thought of another step and my solution works! The culprit? I did not set "refresh window".
  18. I have a solution to print receipts for goods sold at point of sale counter. I want the current date and current time (down to the second) to be printed at the time the receipt gets printed out. I have placed a time field and a date field in the footer part of my receipt layout, but it just won't refresh. Can anyone tell me how I can go about fixing this problem?
  19. I have an inventory file that holds the details of products sold: item number, description, upc/barcode, retail price, wholesale price, etc. When a wholesale customer comes into the store, he picks out the items he wants and indicate to our sales associates how many pieces of each he wants. I would like to create a solution to scan in each upc/barcode to do a find in the present file, have the choice set into a portal, which would then pull up the price for the items via the relationship in the portal, and we can indicate how many pieces are desired. If the customer picks out 30 items, at the end of the session we would have a portal with 30 portal rows. I have the general idea but do not know where to start. Any ideas, solutions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
