  1. Hi all, I have a 45 phrase/word list. Out of that list I want to create 102 random sets of those phrases/words in a text file. It's sole purpose is to then use that exported data file to create 102 5 x 3 Bingo/Buzzword tickets. I have manged to create a single instance of this in Excel, but thought that FM would make a better job or so I thought. Has anyone performed this before? If so please tell me how you achieved this. Many thanks in advance. Mark

    Print to file?

Hi, could someone offer some advice? I have a karaoke database consisting of two tables. One table for the CD titles and the other table for the track listings. They have a relationship so I can create a report based on the cd title with the relevant track listings. Then I will add a common header to the report and then print to file, each and every record to a separate file, taking it's name from the cd title field. The reason for doing it this way is that I want to create a file that is acceptable for a Local Freedb database file that I can ID3 tag locally on my pc (NOT for submission to freedb.org) as such: # xmcd # # Track frame offsets: # 150 # 210627 # # Disc length: 2952 seconds # # Revision: 1 # Submitted via: xmcd 2.0 # DISCID=270b8617 DTITLE=Franske Stemninger / Con Spirito DYEAR=1981 DGENRE=Classical TTITLE0=Mille regretz de vous abandonner TTITLE1=L'arche de no EXTD=Copyright © 1981 MCA Records Inc.nManufactured f EXTD=or MCA Records Inc. EXTT0=Des PreznYez EXTT1=Schmitt: A contre-voix n(excerpt) PLAYORDER= This will be the header information: # xmcd # # Track frame offsets: # 150 # 210627 # # Disc length: 2952 seconds # # Revision: 1 # Submitted via: xmcd 2.0 # and the body will come from the database as: DISCID=270b8617 DTITLE=Franske Stemninger / Con Spirito DYEAR=1981 DGENRE=Classical TTITLE0=Mille regretz de vous abandonner TTITLE1=L'arche de no EXTD=Copyright © 1981 MCA Records Inc.nManufactured f EXTD=or MCA Records Inc. EXTT0=Des PreznYez EXTT1=Schmitt: A contre-voix n(excerpt) PLAYORDER= I can't think of any other way of doing this so I am stumped about the way to print to file for each and every cd title as a separate file in filemaker 9. Any help appreciated. Thank you
  3. HI, thank you for the response. I know there are a couple of plugins, but they seem very expensive. Thank you for your help in this matter.
  4. Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to look and modify an external mp3's ID3 tag data natively within Filemaker? I maintain my own karaoke database and want to be able to read and write back the tags according to a look up on my database. If not natively, then with a free plugin?
  5. Hi, that's exactly what I require. I'm using filemaker as a filter for data conversion and this work's perfectly. I don't need a report and export the data as needed. a very BIG thank you! edit: You have a calculation in cInvCount field as: 1/GetSummary ( sCountRecords ; Category ) and the result is a number. The Category field is text and not a number so how does this work? edit 2: decided to create a separate table and use a relationship - makes life simple - thanks again!
  6. Hi, thank you for the fast response. That example shows a report with the serial number for each of the categorys. I would like to see where for example the category is the same I want the serial number to show in the cSerialInGroup field as the same. for example: Alpha = 1 Bravo = 2 and so on so each group shows a non unigue serial number. I have attached an image to show the result that I require. Thank you for your patience.
  7. Hi, Thanks for the help. I will have a look at the example. Does the sample still appply or is there an easier way in version 9? I have bitten the bullet and upgraded to 9. I will alter my profile. Thanks again for your help in this matter. EDIT: ok I can see where we are going on this. The example is great, but I would like the cSerialInGroup to have the same number if the Category is the same, and not a running count as in the example. Thanks.
  8. HI, I am at a complete loss about this. Here's what I'd like to do: My simple records: record 1|xxxx record 2|xxxx record 3|xxxx record 4|yyyy record 5|yyyy I would like to look for occurences in the 2nd field. eg xxxx and where this occurs I want to have the same serial number for that found set and then on the second set yyyy increment by and repeat all the way down, incrementing by 1 for each found set so it ends up like: record 1|0001 record 2|0001 record 3|0001 record 4|0002 record 5|0002 etc etc. It doesn't even have to be in the same field. The result could be placed in another field. I'm stumped on this. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Hi, I'm sorry I cannot post "live data" as I am governed by the "Data Protection Act" in the UK. I have tried to describe the problem that I have with which I thought best represented the data without over-complicating the issue. I can see where you are coming from and will give it a try. Thank you. You have been most helpful and very constructive with your answer. Regards Mark
  10. Hi, in essence the fixed width record will be like: Line 1:NAME|SECURITY NO 1|DETAILS|ETC Line 2:NAME|SECURITY NO 1|DETAILS|ETC Line 3:NAME|SECURITY NO 1|DETAILS|ETC Line 4:NAME|SECURITY NO 2|DETAILS|ETC Line 5:NAME|SECURITY NO 3|DETAILS|ETC I have just used pipes to seperate the fields and they do not appear in the data as the records are fixed with and NOT CSV. What I need to end up with an output file, whereby if the field SECURITY NO is duplicated the duplicated records need to be concatenated onto the first one and so on and so on.... Line 1:NAME|SECURITY NO 1|DETAILS|ETC|Line 2:|NAME|SECURITY NO 1|DETAILS|ETC|Line 3:|NAME|SECURITY NO1|DETAILS|ETC| Line 4:NAME|SECURITY NO 2|DETAILS|ETC| Line 5:NAME|SECURITY NO 3|DETAILS|ETC| I can't think of an easier way of describing the issue. Someone mentioned to me that maybe a processor like awk might be able to do it, but I don't even know what awk is and have no expereince of it. Thanks
  11. Hi, thank you for the prompt reply, but what I want is that where the security number is the same I wish to Concatenate the output TXT file as: RECORD1,RECORD2,RECORD3[newline] RECORD4[newline] RECORD5[newline] RECORD1, RECORD2, RECORD3 will have the same security number, while RECORD4 AND RECORD5 will have unique security numbers. I hope this makes more sense. Thanks Mark
  12. Hi I have a set of records that I want to concatenate where a particular field is matching, such as a security Number and then output a concatenated text file. Is this possible, if so how? I'm stumped! Thank you
  13. Hi, I want to import a file into filemaker, do a record count and then split the file into seperate databases depending on a chosen number. Then I want to merge them into one database, keeping the order that they were imported into, and export the file as a csv again, keeping the same order. The bottom line is I want the ability to have an csv file and then duplicate and reorder the csv based upon the number of times the record needs to appear in the output. The output file is then used in a print layout software. I hope this makes sense? If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very happy! Thank you
  14. Hi John, thank you for your help
