  1. It worked It worked It worked oh yeah it worked Thanks again...
  2. Yes! I downloaded the example and can get it to do what I want to do... heres hoping I can translate it to my solution. Thanks again everyone, it really is helping me over an enormous hurdle.
  3. Thank you so much Fenton - I am secretly pleased it is not straightforward as I don't feel I have missed the obvious... I will have a crack at what you have outlined and let you know.. Thanks again
  4. That is what I want, but not getting! The summary field showing quantity is working, but I am still getting a portal row for every single item...
  5. I apologise to anyone who has already tried to help me on this, but I am still tied in knots with what seems like a basic problem... ORDER table - one order ORDERED_ITEMS table - many items for one order [there is also a Product table with one record for every variation of model + color, each defined with a unique Product_Code] ORDERS has a form layout with a portal which should display the total of all related ORDERED_ITEMS summarised by model + color [ProductID]. Basically, if you have ordered 3 blue widgets and 1 yellow widget, that should appear as two rows in the porta
  6. I would like to show a summary from one file in a portal of another, and can't seem too... File 1 - [color:red]Orders shows each order as a single record; File 2 - [color:red]Items if you order 5 red widgets and 3 blue widgets, each widget is an individual record in Items ie a total of 8 records. [it needs to be that way for other functions] In this example, I want a portal in Orders to show the two related records with the quantity [summary] of 5 and 3 respectively; I can get the summary field working in the Items file with a self relationship but can't get that field to show
  7. Hi, I feel I should be able to work this out but it is not happening for me. We take orders for and manufacture product; we may take orders for 200 units but only manufacture 150. I need to automatically allocate product to a weeks production list. We have an [color:red]Orders file populating an Items file; a record in the [color:red]Items file may show Qty = 20 Model = A Color = Blue. There will be multiple records linked to each Order. We also have a [color:red]Production file with a record for each week and the number of each model can be produced in that week; numbers are
  8. We have two Macs sharing peer to peer; whenever the client is closed down the file references are lost resulting in 'file can't be found' when buttons pointing to the host dbase are clicked. Both computers have fixed IP addresses; linked over an ethernet LAN. I have to either find the file myself or redefine the file reference in each script. I hadn't experienced this issue before changing to Dev7, maybe I am misunderstanding something but it drives me nuts.....
  9. Yes, that is what I have to go through every time the link is lost. If I go to the script there is a 'Perform script from file Contacts [file is not open]' which is not true as I can see it open from where I sit!! I have tried using the computers names, the IP address, most of the options available in the file reference window to no avail.... once I redefine the link it works ok until the next time the client computer goes to sleep or FM is shut down.
