  1. I have the sections that the teachers are teaching in a list format, then when they click on the students they go to a form page where they can scroll through the students one student at a time. I hope that is the info you are looking for - I have struggled to implement the related record script step. I really need to take some classes :o
  2. Sorry for the lack of info - but having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Teacher logins - sees his classes based on a teachers table, a join table and a sections table - then he sees his students based on the sections table a join and a students table. What I would like is for a teacher to login, see his classes, then be able to click on his classes and see his students.
  3. Not sure if this is the right forum for this or not, but does anyone know of a good white paper or read me on globals? Basically what I am trying to accomplish is when a user logs in, they go to their related records and only their records. Is globals the way to accomplish this?
  4. Hey, Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I was curious if anyone has put together a "dynamic" SQL statement using a global. In other words something like, SELECT * FROM teachers WHERE teacherid=^(gAccountID) I know my syntax is not correct, but I am too lazy to get to open the DB to find the correct syntax. Thanks for any help. B
  5. Hello, Working with an Oracle 10g database, when I add relationships in the graph area, I am not getting any one-to-many or many-to-many links. I am basically trying to recreate the structure from the Oracle DB to a FM DB - When I look at the related records from a source, I am seeing the same id over and over in what should be a unique foreign key field. I apologize for not being real clear on this. Brad
  6. Thank you for the response. I have grades coming in on a sql query. Some grades have the actual grade field empty. I need to put the value of "Null" in there so my other calculation fields will execute correctly. I would prefer the end user not attempt a find and replace.
  7. So I have some fields in my table that are blank, and am trying to write a case statement that would replace the blank field with a value of "Null". Is the case statement the best way to do this?
  8. I have a rather lengthy SQL import, does anyone know of a way to keep the user "entertained" while the import goes on? I know FM pops up the import records as the records are being imported, but I am looking for something while the query is taking place on the remote system other then the spinning "rainbow of death" Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  9. So, I am trying to write a script that performs a find based on user input, then goes to the related filed to pull in the SQL Statment. Below is the script. When I run it, I get the rainbow spinning wheel of death. I have attached a jpg of the script. I am using the GetAsText function to try to pull the query out. I had this working at one time. I am using Actual Technology's driver and I have tested it. I have tested my SQL query in Excel and by doing a straight import into FM and it worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brad
  10. Greetings, Does anyone know of a way to get a cross-tab report to be viewable through the web? Since the preview mode is not available with IWP, I am struggling to try to find away to make it work. Thank you
  11. I think I understand relationships at least with FileMaker (Don't ask my wife about this) - I think I need individual records as they will be coming in daily from a SQL import. Basically, the record with be a teacher, student, and the section they would be enrolled in which would then go to a calc field for a total number of students in the class for that teacher. Let me know if I am over complicating it : Thanks
  12. Yes, but I can only display on record per portal row correct? So I would need at least 31 portals? Sorry, I am just having a tough time wrapping my brain around it. Not that I have a large brain :
  13. To my understanding the table view only allows for one row per record. I need to put multiple records on one row. I hope that makes sense.
  14. There are various reasons to put it into FMP - the biggest being that I don't think I can specify which Excel tab I need the data to go into. You see one tab with one school. They have 19 other schools - I don't want them to have to go into each tab and run a separate query. Also, I can lock down FMP a whole lot tighter then I can Excel. Web based would be another reason. : Brad
  15. Basically, I have membership figures that have to be shown monthly by teacher for a school district. Attached is a screenshot of what I am trying to replicate. I am pulling this data in through a SQL query. This is just one month of data for a specific school. I am thinking I need one record for every date so 1/1/2007 would be one record for each teacher and class, then 1/2/2007 would be another record. Can you think of a better way?
