  1. am trying to insert the result of an SQL query into a field in FMP 9. Here is my SQL statement (which produces the correct result) SELECT count(*) FROM smart_cd.USAGE_SAS WHERE FTR_SERVICE_TYPE = 'C' I can run the SQL query in a script using "Execute SQL", but I can't figure out how to send the results to a field in FMP. I don't want to hard code the value of the field to equal the SQL statement (as in a calculation), as I want to be able to retrieve this information at will. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Tony

  3. I have FM 8.5 Advanced, running on an Intel iMac with OS version 10.5.1. I have Parallels running XP, and I have a Microsoft Access database open in XP. I have added the ODBC System DSN in XP, but I can't get FileMaker to recognize the ODBC data source. How do I connect the two? Thanks, Tony
  4. My skill level is newbie - I just have FileMaker 8.5 Advanced.... Thanks for the tips - I will give it a try.
  5. I have a problem with a field maintaining the font size. I have a layout (sales) where I input address information, and the fields are all font size 12. On another layout (label), I have fields that are size 10, as I am printing labels. I can't make the label layout keep the font size 10 - most of the time the font size stays at 12. This usually is due to me pasting information into the fields that are font size 12. Is there a way to tell the field to maintain the font size that I want the layout to have? The font issue also happens when I paste information into a field.
  6. My last FileMaker web project was back in 2000 and it involved using CDML. What is today's version of CDML and what is a good book on the subject? Do I need to have the server version or will 8.5 Advanced suffice? I am trying to web-enable a database without using Instant Web Publishing. Thanks, Tony
  7. I have three records that contain a phone name and a phone number, and they are all related by a store number. For example, the records contain: Store Number - Phone Name - Phone Number C0001 - Store - 404-555-1212 C0001 - Truck - 404-555-1213 C0001 - Office - 404-555-1214 I need to create a text field that I will use to create a label to place on the back of each phone (they are cell phones), where each label will have the phone number of itself followed by the two other phones. So, the label for the Store phone would look like this: Store 404-555-1212 (with
  8. I have a web view set to a custom web address - which is HTML that is contained within a field. The web viewer setup looks like this: "data:text/html," & Stats::html_final (where Stats::html_final is the html code) This works on my Mac, but not on my Windows machine. What do I need to do in order to display HTML from a field in Windows? (I have Win 2000) Thanks, Tony
  9. I am using 8.5 Advanced. I do the design on my Mac, and the move it over to Windows to create a run-time version. I used Tahoma on my Mac because it was one of the (only) four fonts that show up in my Windows version - Arial, Courier New, Tahoma and Times Roman. Even though I used Tahoma on my Mac, it looks like crap on Windows - and it appears larger than what is on my Mac. Is there a quick solution to solving this or do I have to re-do everything in Arial? Thanks Tony
  10. I wasn't aware of the 2k HTML limitation. So, I will stick with just loading it from the hard drive. Thanks
  11. Finally - a question that I can figure out! Almost any "form" that is on a web site can be broken down into its input components. If you view the source for this page, you will see what I mean (just search for the form HTML tag - . These input tags correspond to the input fields on the web page, and some input fields are hidden. For this particular page, the form components are: FORM NAME: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/zcl_0_results.jsp Input Fields (the first three are "hidden"): (I have manually put in information after these field names. Also, I added the ampersand &
  12. I have a script that populates a field with HTML and then web viewer will display the page. However, there is a slight delay in the web viewer displaying the HTML as it should - so it displays the HTML as text in the web viewer window. While it only displays it for a half-second, it will be annoying to my clients (as it has been annoying for me). I have tried to freeze the window until the very end of the script, and then I do a refresh, but it still shows up. It also happens as I scroll between records (as the HTML field is a global field) - so is this just a web viewer
  13. I am having problems getting JPG's to show up when I use HTML from a field in the web viewer. I tried using "data:text/html,....[field name]" as my source in web viewer, and it will load the HTML, but it won't recognize any jpeg's that I have in my FMP home directory. When I load the same html code from a file on my hard drive into WV, the jpegs work. I can get a successful result if I load the images onto my web server and put the full path name in the tag, but I don't want to have to be connected to the Internet for this to work. I have tried searching for the answer, but I c
  14. What solution did you use? I need to make a simple graph, but I am on a tight budget and didn't want to have to spend $40-$100... Thanks, Tony D.
  15. Here is a database that I have used in the past to create a unique registration number. The attached database creates a 24 digit registration code based upon the client's name and modification date. Here is how it works.... You create a registration layout (similar to the one in the attached database) with a company name and six registration entry fields. These six entry fields will be where the customer enters their registration code. You will have to create a script that will check what they enter with the registration code that the attached database creates. When your prog
