  1. I agree that that makes sense. My problem is I'm working with a database I started over ten years ago, and I've got about 80,000 records with the various company interactions in the single record. I'm trying to avoid re-building that aspect if I can. I'm struggling with how to structure a join to capture the single record with multiple fields in it I want to pull out, several times. Once for each company response. In the base record I have "Account Name", "ID Code", "Submitted company A", "Result company A", "Submitted company B", "Result company B", etc. etc. I want to get every instanc
  2. I have a database with each record representing one account. Within each account record, there are ten different companies the account may have been sent to (one individual field for each company within the same table), along with the results of that effort. Both of these make up the company data set. Also within that single record there is an identifying ID Code, which represents the type of account it is. What I want to do now is create a table with a portal where I can select or enter an ID Code, and get each instance of that ID Code with each individual company data set. So if
  3. I have been using Filemaker solutions for over ten years for my business. One of the most important functions has been assembling a coverage quote to be sent to our clients. It is made up of several pages with static and merge field text, all overlaid on beautiful graphics. The pages are saved as PDFs, and then combined through a plug in with a second document that comes from our carrier. My problem is this. Those saved documents used to be a little under 2 MB total. Now they are closer to 10 MB, which is unworkable. i'm looking for a new solution to create a multi page PDF with inform
  4. Thank you for the ideas. I had the relationship set up correctly, but it was still stopping at the first row and changing the data there. I just set up an "If empty" on one of the fields in the row, and instructed it to perform the script, but if not go to the last row, and it seems to be working. Thank you.
  5. I am trying to create a script that will go to the next row of a portal (thus creating a new, related record) and enter data there. For some reason, no matter what portal commands I use, I cannot get past the last row that already has data in it. Any advice on how to create this new record in the portal through a script would be appreciated. Thank you.
  6. Using FM Pro 13, I am trying to create a script to append several layouts onto the front of an existing external PDF. I can append them to the back of that external PDF easily, but that won't work for my use. It appears I need to create my new PDF (called PDF 1), and then append the existing external one to that one (PDF 2) creating a final PDF3. What I can't figure out how to do is grab the external one (PDF 2), make it part of FM, and then save it as a PDF and append it to PDF 1 to create the final PDF 3. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  7. I have a database of accounts, and a related table listing the people that have sent me those accounts over the years. Each person listed has sent multiple accounts over many years. I am trying to figure out how to display (graphically if possible) in my main database how many of those accounts were sent in during the past twelve months, how many where closed (as a percentage), what the average cost was, and a few other things. Basically I want to create a snapshot of the effectiveness of that particular business relationship whenever I look at one of the accounts the person sent in.
  8. I am trying to limit entries into a master activity field to only those entries inserted via a script which attaches a date. That part works fine. I then locked the field so the user cannot modify in browse mode. I've just realized that by locking out the user they can no longer use the scroll bar to move through the body of the text. Most of these field contain a large amount of data so scrolling is crucial. Any thoughts on how to have it both ways? Thanks for your help.
  9. I have a Thinkpad with an Intel Mobile 945GM Chipset. I'm pretty sure that is the video card on this machine. I've tried updating the driver with no luck. Thanks for any advice.
  10. I recently upgraded to FM Pro 9, and all seemed fine for the first few days. I then replaced my old keyboard with a new wireless one with mouse, and I am getting frequent screen flicker. I've read a few posts on this, and checked my video driver, which is up to date. There were a few references in earleir posts to disabling features in the mouse that might have something to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas there? Thanks for any help.
  11. I seem to have a problem. I have three different printers that we use in the office, each with a different type of media. I have scripts set up to print to those specific machines for specific tasks. I run 8.5 on all the machines, with our server running the Server version. All was well, until a few days ago. Now none of the scripts will call up the correct printers, or if they do, it is only on certain computers. I've had to insert dialogue boxes to allow users to fix the printer. Any reason why this should become so unstable? I've tried rebuilding the scripts with no luck. Any help
  12. I am running Server 8 and FMP 8.5 on the client machines. I recently copied and moved a file onto my laptop to update it. I've made the changes, changed the name slightly (through a "save as") and cut and pasted it back into the database folder under server. After several hours of trial and error, I've finally realized that I can have either the original version of the file, or the new one show up in the remote list, but not both at once. I figured this out through Server Adminstration, and going to the Datbase Node and closing one, which allows the other to open. So, what I really need i
