    Sort problem

I just tried something again. If I click in a field (any field) then click out nothing happens. If I click in a field (any field) and change the data and click out the sort occurs.

    Sort problem

I think so. I am a bit of a novice at this but I remember trying to limit my sort scripts as I new they took up time. By sort field what do you actually mean.( sorry for what I think is a very basic question)

    Sort problem

This is a bit difficult to explain, so much so I'm not sure if I have posted it in the correct section. But here goes. Whenever I click on the screen to deactivate a record (click outside a field). The program automatically does a sort of 3 to 5 records. This seems to be indiscriminate of the number of found records and it happens every time I click out of a field. I am wondering if this has something to do with how I have stored the fields but I would appreciate any help. I Hope this makes some sort of sense.
  6. My screen blacks out when I try to right mouse click on the screen or move a field on the screen with the mouse. Any HELP would be appreciated

Looking at that jpeg certainly puts things in perspective. I have read the article and will attempt to tidy things up.This may take awhile. (dont hold your breath). At least you could always use this as an example of what not to do. Thank You

Thanks again, I have attached a copy of what I have got so far. (Laugh if you must but I enjoy trying) If this is to complicated feel free to ignore as I don't want to take up all your time. I am sure my structure is incorrect, I dont pretend to be a programmer. The advantage of writing my own software is I can alter things on the spot when my staff require it. At this point the item numbers are within the stock table but in different fields however I was thinking that I would need to link the stock to a seperate table for the item numbers. Optom.zip

I will start again. I am an optometrist Frames have 1 item number e.g 110 Lenses that we sell have up to three [color:red]Item numbers e.g 212 ( lens type - Single vision, bifocal etc) 512 ( lens material - plastic, glass) 652 ( lens coatings) I create a job order which the user puts in a stockID number for a frame FStockID, and a stockID number for lenses LStockID. Look up fields then fill the rest of the job order up linked to a stock table via the StockID. When the patient comes to pay for the job I start a script which looks up the job code. From here it creates a

I'll try again, What you have written in blue is actually correct. I dont need to create any new records other then in the accounts table. The stock and item numbers remain as is linked by a STOCKID. The accounts table is where the totals are calculated based on the three item numbers and their cost.

OK We have Tables(sorry not Layout) Account, Stock and Item number. A Stock product has up to three item numbers. The account has to automatically create up to 3 records based on the 1,2 or 3 item numbers the stock product has. (It may have 1,2 or 3 item numbers). I am sorry for my description. I am an optometrist but have been using Filemaker for about 10 years but no actual training. Have only recently started using Filemaker 8.5 after 5 year hiatus

can anyone help. How do I create a number of records in one layout based on the number of records found in another layout. EG..Layout 1 looks up layout 2 field X - Field X is related to 3 records in Layout 3. Layout 1 creates 3 records based on Layout 3. I hope this makes some sort of sense
