  1. Can anyone tell how to fix the password of FMS7 SAT tool once it is corrupted. Apparently, I am not able to execute fmsadmin -p. The password is not getting reset this way. Any other options. Thanks
  2. Thank you for your response. I dont understand how I can fix this problem. Suppoding I remember my password to be "abc". When at command prompt I type fmsadmin -v, I get the version details after I supply my password "abc". But when I am trying to reset the password by typing fmsadmin -p new password, I dont get any message. The system doesn't allow me to reset the password. What can I do to fix this problem. Are there any other ways other than going to the shell and executing fmsadmin command. Thank you very much for your help.
  3. Hi All, We have FMSA7 running on a mac and this server hosts many databases. Suddenly, when we tried to login into the FileMaker Server Admin and when we were prompted to enter the password, the application was not accepting the password. But we feel that the password is correct. All the databases are still being served but we are unable to launch the FileMaker Server Admin application. We went to the unix shell and tried to execute the fmsadmin -v command and we were asked to enter the password. At the command level, the password was accepted and all the server info was displayed. 5. In FM6, I have a database file that has two global variables. I set these two to 1 when two different types of invoices are printed. Later when a user wants to move to next billing period, the script checks to make sure that the invoices are printed (checks if these two globals are set to 1) and then moves to the next billing period and sets the two globals to 1. However, when the user prints the invoices on one day and then tries to move to next billing period on the next day, the script finds that invoice has not been printed (since the global values are lost). Is there any workaround t
  6. I have posted this before. However, even after working on it for sometime and reading various technical briefs, I am still encountering the same problem. Here is the scenario - We are converting a set of FIleMaker 6 databases to FileMaker 7 and want to use external server authentication. I have three machines. Machine 1 - Mac OS X Server 10.3.9. This server runs the open directory services and has all the groups and accounts configured as part of open directory. Machine 2 - Mac OS 10.4.10 - This machine runs the FileMaker Server Advanced 7. All the databases are served by this server.
  7. I have already posted a similar thread. But I am posting this after reading several articles and watching videos. Here is the scenario - We are converting all our filemaker 6 files to filemaker 7 files. We would like to use external server authentication. The open directory services is already up and running. I dont know if it is working properly because we never used it. I have three machines - Machine 1 - Mac OS X Server 10.3.9 - This machine runs the open directory services Machine 2 - Mac OS X 10.4.10 - FileMaker Server Advanced 7 runs in this machine Machine 3 - Mac OS X 10.3
  8. Hi All, I would sincerely appreciate anyone shedding some light on my problem. We are converting some databases from FM6 to FM7. So, we decided to go for external server authentication. I refered to thetech briefs concerning this and havetried for nearly a week with no luck. We have set the groups in the work group manager and introduced changes in filemaker file and also set the settings in the FileMaker Server7 advanced. Here is the problem- In the Directory Service tab of FM Server 7, I entered ip address of domain controller for Directory Service Name 389 -LDAP Port Disti
  9. HunterBoss, You are right. Mr_Vodka, here is the situation - I have a layout with a couple of fields where the end user comes and keys in some text value in these fields initially and my check field ( say field B ) is set to "initial". Then some reviewer logs into the database and reads these text fields again and edits them and creates a final version. Now the check field ( field B ) is set to "final". Once the check field is set to "final", end users can only look at these text fields and copy the value in them but cannot edit them. But the users will still need to go to the same layout
  10. Hi All, I work in filemaker 6 and have a problem which i am trying to solve. A field A should be made non-editable ( user can get into the field and copy the contents of the field but cannot modify the field) depending on the value of another field B. These two fields are not in the same layout. I am sure there must be a way to do it but am not able to figure it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. Thanks so much mfero. I implemented your logic and it worked great. Though I was breaking my head on how to implement it, I just couldn't figure it out. Again, thank you so much.
  12. Can anyone please share some ideas on how to implement this. I am really struck here and dont know how to proceed. Thanks
  13. Hi All, I am trying to create a self-join relationship for a table and am not sure of how to define it. The fields in the table to be used for the join are period number, fiscal year, department head code and account number. I want the join to select all those records whose department head code = 1 and account number != 144006. So I create two calculation fields cField1 = period number & fiscal year & Department Head Code & account number. Now I dont know how to define the second calculation field. A part of it will be cField2 = period number & fis
  14. Hi All, I am new to FileMaker and I am trying to create a subsummary report for an existing database. I have to print invoice entries group by customer, object class. A customer can have many object classes. So the report should look like Customer 1 Object Class1 invoice records Object Class2 invoice records Customer2 Object Class1 (for this customer) and so on... Now I have to compute total amount of purchase for every object class type for a customer and then apply some discount on them. For the total amount and discount, I have created two summary
