  1. Hi All, I have two tables: Students and Programs. Students fields are: StudentID, ProgramID, Status; Program fields are: ProgramID, year, term. I want some way to see all students whose status is "Cancelled" for a given year/term pair. In SQL I think I'd do SELECT * FROM Students S, Programs P WHERE S.Status = "Cancelled" AND S.ProgramID = P.ProgramID AND P.term = "Spring" and P.year = 2007 to get all of the students who cancelled a spring program from 2007. Can anyone help me figure out how to find/display these records in filemaker? Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks, you saved me a lot of time. You guys are great.
  3. Is it possible to have a text field slanted, say, 45 degrees? I'm still pretty new to FileMaker and was hoping someone out there could give me a quick 'yes' or 'no' answer before I spend too much time looking for a way to do something that might not be do-able. BTW, if the answer to my question above is 'yes', I'd appreciate it greatly if you could also tell me how this is done }:(
  4. Thanks again, this is exactly what I was looking for.
  5. I'm trying to find a way to make it easier for some of the people in my office to get to our database. Is there a way to reduce the number of steps needed for opening a remote file? As of now they have to open FileMaker, choose Open Remote, then select the database. For some here, that's two too many steps. Is there a way to make an icon or something else clickable that will do these three steps for the user? Thanks.
  6. Thanks a lot. Guess my eyes got weary by the time I got to the end of the "Get( ... )" list..
  7. Hi all, I need part of a script to run only if the layout is in find mode. Is there a nice easy Get( mode ) type function I can use to determine whether the user is in Browse or Find mode? Thanks in advance.
  8. I'm trying to keep track of who edits a field and when it is edited. I'm thinking of writing a script that will auto-load user and date information when a field is selected to be edited, but I don't know how to go about setting this up.
  9. Mr. Vodka, Thanks for your two posts.. It took me a while to see how they would solve the question I asked here (although your second post answered my other question perfectly); and sorry about the double posting -- I didn't realize these questions had the same answer
  10. Thanks for responding so quickly.. Would this work if I have a number of programs and want to see this information for each one all on one page?
  11. I'm pretty new to FileMaker, so I'm hoping this isn't a hard question to answer (I just don't know how to do this..) I'm trying to create a report and I want to list all of the people who have not paid for a program which they've registered for. I have a 'People' table which stores their names (among other things), a 'Registration' table which relates a person to a program and tracks if they've paid, and a 'Program' table that has information about the program. I'm not sure if I should use a portal here or what (I don't know how to show a subset of a found set...) so please help! Tha
  12. Ahhh.. Thank You. As I'm new to filemaker I'm also new to 'Table Occurrences'. Adding a new TO to relate emails to people via the primary_email key did the trick. Again, Thank You.
  13. The primary field idea is to identify which email address is a person's primary address, because we may have 2 or 3 addresses on file for them. I'd like to display only the primary address on a layout summarizing personal info (there's no need to list all the email addresses we have). I understand the relationships needed to associate these two entities, but I don't know how to get filemaker to do what I want -- show the email address on the people layout.
  14. Hi, I'm new to filemaker from mysql and am having trouble translating my knowledge. I have two tables (people and emails) in a one to many relationship. I have a primary_email field in the people table to identify which email is their primary one (duh), but can't figure out how to show only this email address in a people-centric layout. In MySQL I would select the entry from email table that has email_ID=primary_email. Is there a way to mimic this in filemaker? Thanks.
