  1. I tried to save as a copy with no luck. I just added a custom function and this happened to me again only now its a custom function that is mimicking the external data source's behavior.
  2. Global variables do not have the same "triggering effect" that field references have. FileMaker will evaluate most evaluations that have a field reference of the changed field. This does not apply to any kind of variable. Although, a screen refresh will cause a calculation to re-evaluate if the field is currently on-screen, regardless of the field references.
  3. Yes, you are correct. If you are currently viewing Table A and you add a field to Table B, then no fields will be added to any layouts regardless of the preference "Add Newly Defined Fields to Current Layout" current status. FileMaker only adds fields to the currently viewed layout if: a. You are viewing a layout showing records from a table occurrence of the appended table b. The preference "Add Newly Defined Fields to Current Layout" is enabled Both items must be true.
  4. I know this has been solved already, but here is another way to accomplish this: Right ( "00" & Number ; 2 )
  5. Hello, I added a switch that will close the launcher after a successful launch. Also some error trapping in the open file script. I also fixed the anchoring of the layout elements on the main layout. Julian YA-Launcher_v4-JL.fp7.zip
  6. Just to extend your technique, I found that rather then coloring the text using custom formatting, I set the font size to the max (500pt). And if you have a regular sized field the text will not display. If you have a field such as a memo field that is quite large in respect to regularly sized fields you may see some of the characters. Check out the images. This text only displays if the activation to the software is invalid
  7. Hello All, I have run into this odd error. I had my database linked to another FileMaker database and when the linked database was moved and no longer existed at the given file location. The next time I loaded the database into FileMaker and opened the external data sources dialog the external data source showed up as shown in the attachment. I am not able to do anything to that data source, I can add new sources and edit them fine but this "blank" data source cannot be operated on at all. Cannot remove or edit it. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you, Julian
  8. I do not know if I am overlooking something or its just not there. Now, I know that Get ( RecordAccess ) returns 0 to 2. 0 = no access 1 = view only 2 = edit access Although this function seems incomplete because you can define a delete privilege, which can differ from the edit privilege. I need to be able to find out if the current user has the ability to delete the current record without executing a delete command. Thank you in advance for your help! :B
  9. I have a layout that is in list mode and I would like to display some text displayed, for every record, when that record is selected without having to run any scripts. Just a pure calculated field. Here is the code that I tried and failed with: If (GetNthRecord ( ID ; Get ( RecordNumber ) )=ID; "Selected" ; "Not Selected") When this is applied, the text "Selected" always is displayed for every record. My guess is that the Get ( RecordNumber ) is dependent on the record being calculated and not displayed. But at the same time, when I look at the Get ( RecordNumber ) in the Da
