  1. Thanks - amazing how simple the solution is when someone else looks at it. I've been wrestling with that for a couple of days even though I'm using the same sort of technique on other portals in the front screen!
  2. Hi, I'm not sure whether this is the right forum for this so apologies if not. I have been designing a database for a while now and it's fairly complex but since I am self taught, I am sure that I am using bad techniques. I have one table which lists all my financial transactions. Fields include: Financial Year, Account ID, description, amount. To work out how much i have left in each acount I do the following. Run a script to identify how many accounts are presently used For each account (loop) load a layout showing transactions against that account so that I ca
  3. This is probably dead easy but I can't get my head round the best way to do it! I have a table called calender (A list of dates and activities) which I want to display as a portal on the frontpage of my application. That bit is easy. However, I want to only display future tasks. If I wasn't using a portal I would probably just perorm a find on the calender layout and just display future dates. Am I able to perform a find on a portal so that it only displays future tasks? The way I would probably do this normally is to write a script which did the following: show all r
  4. I have a data entry screen for entering expenses. Is there a way of filling in subsequent fields depending on the first entry? The first entry is into a free text field (although it's supplemented by a drop down menu as many entries are the same.) I want something that looks to see whether an entry has been made before and matches the other fields if it finds it. If it doesn't then it shouldn't fill it. Linked to this, is there a way of running a script upon exiting a field? I know how to run one upon entering the field but can't work out how to do it upon exit. Thanks
  5. I have a invoice table with a unique ID. In the same table I have a field for invoice reference number. What I'd like is to have this populate as a default with a sequential number. That bit is dead easy - I could just use the auto serial function. However, I'd like the number to be made up of the first letters of the jobcode plus the serial numbers. (The jobcode is stored elsewhere). This means that a group of invoices would be say HM0012 and another might be GH0001. Maybe on loading the sheet I need to auto populate it with the serial number (0012) and then run a script which adds
  6. Thanks for the comments guys. I got round this in the end by relating the tables (which was the first piece of advice offered!) Until I looked at the timebilling starter solution which came with FM9, I hadn't grasped the concept that through a relationship you could have a one to many relationship. Through that I can get my summaries with my layout showing a parent record and child records through a portal. I had got bogged down in the layout parts bit - thinking that I needed to use sub summary sections to get any sort of total. As was pointed out by Gmmac, this didn't work for me becaus
  7. Hi, Is there any way of using a variable to drive the sort command? I presently have a script which takes a script parameter and works out things like how the list is currrently sorted etc. This is all done through one piece of scripting and I don't need to rewrite the script every time I add a new sort criteria. What I currently have to do though is put a separate piece in for each sort criteria when it comes to the actual sort: pseudo code if$scriptparam="Week" Sort Records by week Ascending elseif scriptparam="Date" Sort Records by date Ascending I have t
  8. No, that's not the problem. I can do that - that's how the entry interface at day level works. What I don't know how to do is to summarize the data so it shows all the records for one week as one record. e.g week 1: sum of hours charged.
  9. Thanks for this Soren. A useful link (and pretty obvious when you look at it like that!) JL
  10. I wonder if someone might be able to point me in the right direction. I have a database where the main data is in one table which stores timecard information. It’s linked to several other tables but that probably isn’t too relevant. I designed it to enter and view data at line item level i.e individual days and the interface that I have for that works well showing a week at time at day level. What I really want to do though is have another layout which gives me a week by week summary. I could then click on a button to go the more detailed view. My question is how best to do thi

    Button Hiding

Is there a way of hiding buttons in a script? I would like to have a script run that loads a layout and if it finds data, the create new timecard button would be hidden. If it doesn't find data, it is shown? JL
  12. I've got a field on my data entry sheet that I would like to lock and not allow users to enter data in it. No problem with that, I have done that in the field behaviors box. However, I would like the ability to unlock it occasionally using a script but can't find the command. Any ideas?
  13. Not sure whether this is the right forum. Apologies if not. I have a table which lists business mileage. What I am aiming to do is to summarise the business mileage for a given tax year. (The tax year in the UK starts at the beginning of April) I think that the best way to do this is to create a field that sets the current tax start date and then to create a related table that just shows the records starting after that date. If anyone has an easier way of doing this please shout! So to achieve this I want a field that calculates the current tax year start date. Something like
  14. Thanks for this - I'm a bit confused by the Set field line: Set Field [ YourDate; Date ( 1; 1; gYearinput ) & "..." & Date ( 12; 31; gYearinput ) Whats the 'YourDate' Date bit here and what are the numbers doing here? If it might make it easier, the have a field called 'Year' which pulls the year out of the date field and is therefore the one I want to compare against Cheers JL
  15. Thanks for your reply. I'm being really thick but how do I pass the current variable into the find routine? i.e. user has selected month and I want to return all records with that month in? My difficulty is I cannot see how to pass the variable from the month selection to the find script. I can run a find script that pulls back the records where month = 2. What I cant work out how to do is run a script that pulls back the records where month=monthchoice (where monthchoice is the input field)
