  1. I take that back about .png! Seemed to sort it out completely. I left a jpeg in as a test and back to laggy. Without the jpegs it's happy which means I'm happy. Thanks!
  2. Thanks eos, I'll give that global idea a go. Cheers, Chris
  3. Thanks for the response jbante. I'm on Filemaker 11 (i'll update my profile!) Images are objects (not in containers). The reason I'm pointing it at the images is that when I resize my window so that the images are off the screen (i.e. outside of the bounds of my layout window) the layout speeds up dramatically. Scrolling is snappy as I'd expect. All other layouts in this database are fine. The file is on a local drive. They are summary fields in the footer but everything is quick when I do the resize thing. I've try converting the images to png but as you suggest I don't expect that to have a huge impact. Cheers, Chris
  4. Hi, Â I've set up a few buttons than run scripts to send emails out with pdf invoices attached. All is working fine and as expected but I'd like to include an option to add a personal note to the email. Currently I've got it set up so that you click the button to send the email, the script runs and then a window pops up to ask if you're sure you want to send the email. Â I've got the email message populated with data from the invoice but there are times when I'd like to add a note to my standard message. I'm using gmail and couldn't get Filemaker to open gmail in a browser to send the mail so opted for the SMTP route. The problem is that you never see your email, it all happens in the background. Â What I'd like to be able to achieve is to click my 'Send' button in Filemaker and then for my 'are you sure' pop up to include a box you can input an additional message into the body of the email. Â No idea how to go about it though! Any ideas? Â Thanks, Chris
  5. Hi, Â I've created a layout that uses 2 images to act as buttons running scripts. The problem I have is that the bigger my database gets the slower it is to navigate and it's due to the images. Â I've attached a screen shot of my layout. The images are on the far right of the body section. They're just very small jpgs. Â I'm guessing filemaker is loading this image for every row (rather than once and repeating) so does anyone know of a technique I can reduce the load I'm putting on the file? Â I've set up a few filters to reduce the list to the most recent/relevant records but it can still be a bit laggy. Â Using Filemaker 11. Â Thanks, Chris
  6. Sorry, here you go. CurrencyConvertTest.fp7.zip Thanks, Chris
  7. Hi, I've been messing around with trying to set up a way of converting currency on the fly by sourcing data from a web viewer. I've got it working in a test file but for some reason there's a lag in the info updating (you need to choose the currency multiple times) and I was wondering if someone would mind taking a quick look at it for me? I think it's something to do with storage but I've got myself in a bit of a knot! There are 2 methods I'm trying in the attached file. One is a simple relationship based on manually entering a conversion rate and the other is the above. This is the one I'm having (slight) issues with. What I'm doing is using a web viewer to get a conversion out of google, grabbing the relevant number and then passing that to cell. There are a few other things happening which I hope are fairly self expiatory for an experienced user (I'm not one of those). I'd be really grateful if somebody could pass on any gems of advice or let me know if this is a silly way to be trying this. Thanks, Chris
  8. I know I'm talking to myself here but if this helps anyone else I've resolved this now. All I did was create a field called 'Logo' and made it a container. I then added the logo/image to it (In Browse mode right click on the container and add the image). I then placed this container outside of my page set up (i.e. out side the print area). I then added another field called 'PrintLogo'. This was a calculation with it's result being a container. Calculation was: If ( Print = "PDF" ; ( Logo ) ) Now when I select PDF in the checkbox (as per earlier post) it loads whatever image you add to the container 'Logo'. I then repeated this for some other elements I wanted control of. I'm not sure if this is the best way of getting about this but works for me.
  9. OK, so bit more detail on this. So far I've got to the point where I have a button I've called 'Print Options' and a checkbox (called Print) with options for 'PDF' or 'Print'. Pressing 'Print Options' calls a script I've called PrintWhat [color:red]If [MFNorth Invoices::Print = "PDF"] Perform Script ["PrintPDF"] Else If [MFNorth Invoices::Print = "Print"] Perform Script ["PrintPaper"] End If PrintPDF (Gets invoice number and exports pdf with inv no for filename) [color:red]Set Variable [$Path; Value:"file:../../../Desktop/"] Set Variable [$Filename; Value:MFNorth Invoices::InvoiceNumber] Set Variable [$FilePath; Value:$Path & $Filename] Save Records as PDF [Restore; No dialog; "$FullPath"; Current record] PrintPaper [color:red]Print [] So I've got to the point where I can check the relevant box and then either print or export to pdf accordingly. If I could just add to the print script to turn off the graphic elements I'd be a happy bunny! Any further advice much appreciated.
  10. Like the sound of that but I'm not sure how to 'evaluate the contents of the graphics'. i.e. how can I determine whether or not something prints or not? Not obvious to me in the scriptmaker.
  11. I've thought of a simpler way round this by just duplicating the sheet and have set up a button to export to pdf using the Invoice Number as the filename. The logo/details are set up to print on one and not the other. If there's a better way I'd be interested to know?
  12. Hi, I have a invoice database set up in which I'd like to control whether or not certain objects print through a script. The reason for this is that I either print an invoice onto headed notepaper or export it to pdf. If I'm exporting it to pdf I like it to have the company logo/details included in the pdf but when I print it I want these omitted (as they're already on the notepaper). At the moment I have added the logo/details in a layout and then manually set them to print or not print depending on whether I'm exporting to pdf or printing. What I'd like to be able to achieve is a button which runs a script setting the state of the logo/details to print and then exporting the record to pdf. Or at least that's my way of thinking about it. Might be simpler ways out there?? I'm not particularly up on scripting in filemaker but any help much appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Yep, thanks both. Having tried those now Barbara's seems nice and simple! I've just hidden the SentTotal fields as they obviously just repeat what's already in total. Cheers.
  14. Thanks, I was thinking something a bit more like this: If ( Status = "Sent"; Sum (Total)) But this only gives you the sum of the last Total field in the list (if the status is sent. Do you know if this approach is even possible? If I can keep it this simple that would be preferable.
  15. Hi, Simple request from a noobie (I hope). I have a layout which lists Invoices and I'd like to be able to get a calculation which gives me a total value of invoices sent. So I have a Field called 'Total' and a Radio Button Set called 'Status' which lists values 'Sent, Not Sent, Paid'. I would like to create a summary field which calculates the 'Total' of 'Sent' invoices. Thanks.
