  1. Hi people! I hope someone can shed some light on the following issue. I made a simple script for button to import the data from .xlsx and update a field. Script works good but I have a problem with the last step. If xlsx contains the data for import, field gets updated and record is not shifted. Fine. However, if the .xlsx has no data to import, FM automatically shifts to the first record. What I would like is that in the latter case record is not shifted or in other words... I press the button, there is no import because there is no new data, current record is not shifted. I tried with Go to Record as the last step but none of the offered options (first, last, previous, next) does the job. I guess I should use calculation option but I'm completely clueless what to put in. Tnx in advance!!!
  2. Hi, all I need is to read the content of a text file into a text field and I can’t figure out how. Situation: I have ≈150’000 folders, each with one image file and one xml/text file with meta information about the image file. The image file and the meta data need to go into the same record. I’ve looked for hours now, but couldn’t find a solution: • I can’t use the import folder command, because it creates new records for each file in a directory. • I can’t use Do AppleScript > do shell script > cat x.txt, because I can’t get the result into FileMaker. • I can’t use the new Read File script step of FM18, because the solution is on FM16 and FM17. (I tried it nevertheless, but all I got was the filename!?) • I’cant use a plugin (MBS would work just fine, I think). So, what are my options? Any ideas? I would love to insert the xml file into a container and then read the container raw data — but how? A couple of years ago, I have read about someone actually doing this, but I can’t remember where or how. That would be cool! Any other suggestions? Thanks so much! Gary
  3. I am trying to import data from a MySQL database and need to somehow also import fieldnames to be the fieldname in FMP. Is there anyway to do that? I have a CSV of the fieldnames and I also have a MySQL dump of fieldnames and associated data. Thanks for any help.
  4. Gents, there is a price list in Excel with images embedded. Do you have an idea how to import those records into DB with corresponding images preserved? Note that I've attached only two records, there are 600 of them. Any manual manipulations with the images is not an option. price.xlsx
  5. I have searched the forum and internet and not found an answer to my delima. I have a solution with a scripted import of a csv file. I do not want import dialog (e.g. mapping), so I have it set to no. I don't know the name of the file, only that it is a csv file. If I leave the filename out of the import dialogue, the default SHOW filetype in the open file dialog is for a filemaker database. The user needs education to change the SHOW to csv or all. That is undesirable. If I import a correct file once, the next time the script runs in that session, it prompts for a csv file, but if I quit the application and run it again, it goes back to SHOWing filemaker databases. If I provide a bogus file, e.g. YourFile.csv -- I have to capture errors or I get no file dialog for them to find their file. If they cancel, they get a filemaker dialog I don't control that tells them the user aborted the import, continue or cancel. If they cancel, the script exits and I don't get control. That, too, is undesirable. What is the best practice for scripted imports so that whether the user complies or cancels, I maintain control of what happens next?
  6. My FMP pro 15 doesn't allow to import ".avi" and ".mkv" files. The error is the files are not the specified file type How to do so?
  7. Hi everyone, I am trying to run a server sided script that will import a found set. The server sided script opens a handler file that opens data file 1, does the find, imports into data file 2. However, the search works in script debugger but imports all records. The script opens layout A, searches goes to layout b, imports. Also the import of the selected fields seems not be remembered. I am stuck..... Thank you
  8. Hi! using FM18v3 I defined an import, update using key with option :add remaining. Odd enough, when running the import for the first time, the key field remains empty. (Unexpected) As a result the second time I run the script I get new records, but now the keyfieldfield is filled. (Expected) The third time the import also runs as expected ( no new records ). I fixed this by defining this script in FM18 using an if. Eventually, I launched FM17 and re-did the script. Now it works like it should. Anyone else can replicate this? Kind regards,
  9. Filemaker Pro 11 is running on two Windows 10 computers connected as Host and Client over a network. The script to import data from an Excel .csv file utilizes the following script step options: 1. Un-Checked - Specify data source - File 2. Check - Specify import order, Import Action a. Select - Update existing records in found set b. Check - Don't import first record (contains field names) 3. Check - Perform without dialog When the Import script is run from the Host computer, and the desired .csv file is manually selected, the Excel first row field names are not imported and the second row with the data is imported as expected. (See Host Import Mapping) When the same script is run from the Client computer, the Excel first row field names are imported and not the second row data. To get the proper result, I have to leave the check box for "Perform without dialog" unchecked and then manually, from the "Import Action" group, check the box for "Don't import first record (contains field names)" to get the proper data imported. (See Client Import Mapping, check box is no longer checked) Is this caused by a defect in FMP 11? I can't figure out why this is happening.
  10. On windows 7 (VMware on OSX), using FMP17 and Microsoft Access 2016 Trying to do a ODBC import and selecting the datasource, I get asked for Username and password, even if the Access DB is not password protected. The data sources are correct (tested from Livecode) and should be working without user name and password. On the properties of the ODBC pane setup the path seems correct (not pointing to 32): %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe What am I missing?
  11. I've attached two files. The first one is INVOICE, that is generated by every establishment when you purchase, and is in xml format. The second one is XSLT file, that is provided by government fiscal institution and is used to "translate" xml. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: when I try to decode xml using attached xslt scheme on any online xml-converter website the output looks fine. BUT when importing to Filemaker, I receive an error: "XML parsing error: invalid document structure". I would appreciate any help with the issue. Thanks. XML input.xml XSLT scheme.xslt
  12. Hi everyone, I'm a beginner in FM, and i'm trying to develop a solution that allows me to import data from a csv file. I have two related tables Customer ("parent") and Alerts ("child"), each one has a primary key and the Alerts table has a foreign key to conect with the Customer table. I have to populated the alerts table from a cvs file that could have lots of records so I want to relate this new data to the right customers automatically when i import it, the new data does not have a field with the customer ID (primay key) only has its name. Could you please give me any advice with that?
  13. Hi - I'm developing a business solution to be hosted on FM Server. It will be hosted on Soliant Cloud. This is my first time developing for Server. I read Steven and Wim's whitepaper on FM 16 security, which was very helpful. In the past, when I've created upgrades to my solution, I've imported data from the previous version into the new one. Each update is a modified version of the previous file. I read about the benefits of using File Access Protection. My solution is a single file solution so I can basically exclude any other file having access - except I'm not sure what impact that will have on import from previous versions. I assume both files will have the same ID - but not sure if that means that FM will see the older version as trusted or not. Thanks!
  14. I'd get some problems with date formats after installing FMS 15, and I'm trying to solve it by importing to a clone of the original database. But two tables has no layouts and I can't find a way to import these tables without making a layout in the clone or adding a table when importing. The last seems to be the simplest, but how will the relationships behave?
  15. Hello, I've done quite a bit with FileMaker in the past, but have never jumped into the XML arena. Now I have a need to do so, and I'm really needing some help with something I'm sure is quite basic...but still foreign to me. I have an external data source which export XML in a very specific format (see attached). I need to import that into FileMaker so I can manipulate the data, do some various lookups, etc. Once I've made my changes in the data, I need to export in the exact format it was when imported so the external data source can properly import. Not sure if it makes sense to import into 2 tables (workflows, workflow steps) or just a single table. I'm open either way. Once the data is in FileMaker I can get all my calculations and lookups and scripts going and make the data what I need it to be, but then I'll need to export it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks so much in advance! Jeff workflows_export.xml
  16. IN my db I have the following fields IMAGE (CONTAINS 14 FRAMES FROM A MOV FILES AS A JPG FILE) FILEPATH (TEXT FILE AS FOLLOWS: file://Data/Videos/MVI_9887.MOV) VIDEO A Container file where I would like to see the "file://Data/Videos/MVI_9887.MOV" In the DB I have several different records how can I create a SCRIPT AS SUCH GO TO FIELD VIDEO OPEN file://Data/Videos/MVI_9887.MOV I Don't want to keep the video file in the db but only look at it when needed The various INSERT QUICKTIME, URL and so on require me to set the actual file path for each MOVIE file and this is time consuming as I have more than 1200 records, therefore 1200 movie path to insert Anu help? Thanks a lot
  17. Hey, I have a Tab-Separated Text File which I want to import to a database that I just created in FileMaker Pro 15. The text file essentially is a log of events, for instance, one line describes an order, another line describes a payment that has been made. The problem is that I somehow need to import all these lines into different tables. I want all lines in the log file that describe a payment in a table called Payments, and all lines that describe an order in a table called Orders for example. I'm just starting out with FileMaker so forgive me if there is an obvious solution that I'm not aware of. I have a background in software development, so the only solution that I can think of is writing a small program myself that does all the parsing for me and creates separate text files that contain all the orders and payments and other events that have been logged in the file. Then I could simply import each file into the table I need all the data in. So to sum everything up, my main question is if there is a way to somehow parse the text file before importing it. I know that you can create custom scripts in FileMaker but I'm not sure if what I need to do can be done just with that. Thanks in advance, Mike
  18. Not sure if this is the relevant area however, I couldn't seem to find a scripting section What I would like to do and I have had no success so far is the following scenario. I have database which stores references to files in container field located on a folder on a shared computer. What I want to do is have a script which when run populates the database with the names of those files located in the folders on the computer and create a new record for those not already present and if they are already present ignore the import. I have tried a test script which gets the documents path and loops through each record however I get file unknown when debugging and that is as far as it goes. The script in no one handles the above scenario of omitting and inserting only new docs it was just a test to see if it was possible to import via this method. From what I can see the script is asking for a particular filename and if it can't be found it throws the error. That though is no good as essentially the filename is in a sense unknown at the time of import and that is what the purpose of the script would be i.e. too find those files and create a new record with reference only in a container. Documentation on this is either non existent or sparse and confusing to say the least (or at least that's how I find it) Any enlightenment would be appreciated.
  19. Over the past ten years our organization have been using a PO database solution to store all purchasing information. Each year the layout would change to illustrate which year it represents. We would like to merge each of these databases into one for better searching capabilities. Is there an easy way to accomplish this task while still maintaining data integrity? Thank you!
  20. Attention: Before posting in the general discussion forum please review the other forums that would best suit your topic. If you cannot find one then you may delete this text and post your topic in this forum. Hi all, I need to import into filemaker table an XML file as this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Account> <Field APIName="WrntyID">6029065</Field> <Field APIName="ExternalID">1761A</Field> <Field APIName="Name">sayIT SA</Field> </Account> now I'am trying to create the xls file. This is my xls file.... <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:template match="/"> <FMPXMLRESULT xmlns="http://www.filemaker.com/fmpxmlresult"> <METADATA> <FIELD EMPTYOK="YES" MAXREPEAT="1" NAME="WrntyID" TYPE="TEXT"/> <FIELD EMPTYOK="YES" MAXREPEAT="1" NAME="ExternalID" TYPE="TEXT"/> <FIELD EMPTYOK="YES" MAXREPEAT="1" NAME="Name" TYPE="TEXT"/> </METADATA> <RESULTSET> <ROW> <COL> <DATA><xsl:value-of select=“Account/Field[1]" /></DATA> </COL> <COL> <DATA><xsl:value-of select=“Account/Field[2]” /></DATA> </COL> <COL> <DATA><xsl:value-of select=“Account/Field[3]” /></DATA> </COL> </ROW> </RESULTSET> </FMPXMLRESULT> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> This instruction <xsl:value-of select=“Account/Field[1]"/> doesn't work. What is the right syntax to retrive the value of the first TAG FIELD? Then the second end so on...? Many thanks Anna
  21. Hi FMers, I'm trying to get multiple choice quiz questions into a FileMaker database. The information is in a plain text file. Question and options are simply separated by returns: Where in the cell is the genome located? Mostly in the cytosol. Mostly in the mitochondria. [X] Mostly in the nucleus. Stored in the membrane. Stored in RNA. Next question... Each question has 5 options, one of which is correct [X]. There's an empty line between questions. What's a good approach to get this into a FileMaker database with separate fields for the questions, the options, and the correct solution? All the best
  22. Hi i created a certificate and want that when it is clicked to save it it gets created into a pdf and then imported into the cetification container field , however for some reason i am recieving some error in my script , the pdf does not save at all. see script below: i would appreciate if someone could tell me where i went wrong why my pdf is not saving and if this is the method to save the pdf to a container
  23. I have come across this technique severally on this forum, but I can't figure out how this really works. Right now I am faced with a situation that requires similar technique and I can't seem to get it work. I have Table A and Table B. 1. I want to script an import Process that will first export all records in Table A into Table B (kinda A Clone Copy of Table A) Thats just my basic objective 2. Then from there, I would want to be able to do similar Process but this time, I will only update the records in Table B with that of Table A using a match field. 3. I will also love to perform the process based on a found count. ie after performing a find of specific records I think If I can be guided on achieving NO. 1, then I can similarly script the others..
  24. Hi We have a database in Go 14 and users need to Import records from Filemaker Server 14, to Filemaker Go. And it runs very good with all Users that have: Ipad Air 2 and Ipad Pro Import time: 8 to 9 Minutes But all the users that have: Ipad 3rd and Ipad 4rd Generation Import time: + 1Hour Both using the same wireless, Is there any way I can identify in a script what Ipad Model the user has ? Best Regards
  25. Hi, I have a problem with server side import of records. I have a simple script which just does an import of a textile (with tab delimiters): Set Variable [$FileList; Value: "filewin://server/folder/1795739.txt"] Go to Layout ["files" (files)] Import Records [No dialog; "$FileList"; Add; UTF-8] When I run it client side, everything is fine. When I run it server side with Perform Script on Server I'm getting an error: The previous script step, "Perform Script on Server", could not be completed because of an error.... If I run Get ( LastError), I get error code 100 (File is missing) I have tried many different file locations for the textile. Network path, Local path (on the FM server) and Relative path (from where the database is placed on FM server). I have tried placing the file in the FM server Databases and Documents folder AND the User Documents folder: filewin://server/folder/1795739.txt filewin:/C:/Users/ARAXI/Documents/1795739.txt filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Documents/1795739.txt filewin:/C:/Program Files/FileMaker/FileMaker Server/Data/Databases/1795739.txt file:1795739.txt Every time I get error 100. What am I doing wrong?? FileMaker server is v14 on Windows Server 2008 and the client is running on Windows 7.
