  1. Hey all, this time I created two functions that generate a BMP file with a code-128 barcode. It's more complicated, despite being shorter than the previous (EAN13), and it also has to generate a variable-length BMP file. There are some hacks, like the generation of a little-endian number for the BMP header, but overall it seems stable. I tried uploading it to Brian Dunning's website but it didn't give me the link. I'll post it here, and if there are problems, please PM me. /** * ===================================== * BarcodeCode128B_BMP_380px ( string ) * * PURPOSE: * Generate a binary BMP file containing a Code-128 Type B barcode * * NOTE: * Embed the contents in a container to see it. 2. Hello, I am gonna describe a scenario where total automation needed using only barcode scan, please bear with me: I am creating operator timesheet layout for product lifecycle in list-view. Each operator has a list of unique barcodes(printed sheet) for each production function. Every activity(function) of print production is assigned code (barcode) that represents function type as well as operator name: For eg. if John is working on new plates function for Press he'd scan barcode 301-1 but if Marc is working on the same function , he'd scan 301-2 , Now '301' represents new plates function and number after hyphen(-) represents operator. In John's case 1 and Marc 2. So, on the interface(list view of functions) , when an operator scans barcode of function it will set time-in field value and name of operator in their fields based on calculation from code. I don't want STOP button for each function to set value of time-out (because it requires user interaction), rather, I want it automated. I am looking for some sort of script trigger that runs on every new code scan and search for last record with similar operator name and set time-out value as current time in that record and set the same value as time-in for new function record. Thank you
  3. Hi everybody, I am doing a POS system and I have 2 databases. The first one has the barcodes and descriptions of the products and the second one has the ordered products. I have a layout from which I would like to read the barcodes of the products and then add their information within the other database. To do it, I have a field through which I want to introduce the barcode. This barcode can be introduced handly or with a barcode reader. I have some problems to create the script to read the barcode. Handly: I write the barcode numbers, strike the enter key and a script "1" is started (when strike this key) to capture the barcode. Barcode reader: I click on the field and read the barcode, after that a script "2" is started to capture the barcode. To separate both scripts (1 and 2), in this field I have activated the OnObject Keystroke event and I run this script: Set Error Capture [On] Allow User Abort [Off] IF Code (Get ( TriggerKeystroke ) = 13) Perform Script [“Add barcode”] Else Exit Script End If Using this script I can read a barcode and the subsequent script runs perfectly but it is impossible to write handly any number within the field. How could I keep both reading options? Thank you very much, Wardiam
  4. Hey guys, I am trying to create a script that will preform a search and pull up a record in my FM database with a barcode scan from CMS Barcode. I have already setup CMS Barcode so that the barcode number imports into a text field in my database with a scan, however from there I am stumped. The script can't be that complex, and CMS only offers limited information. Any help would be appreciated! Tomio

  6. I developed a solution which utilises the barcode reader function. This worked perfectly in FMGo 14 on an iPhone 6 Plus. I upgraded to FMGo 15 but at the same time made a few programming changes, although not to the script containing the 'Insert from Device function'. On activating the script, the camera would activate and the barcode would be read successfully but, on a later occasion, the camera would activate, but not trigger on the same barcode as before and the camera would remain in scan mode unless cancelled. Thinking this was due to the changes I made, I spent hours trying to overcome the problem. Eventually, I deleted FMGo 15 and downloaded it again. It worked. However, the problem resurfaced. When it does, quitting the app restores the functionality. The 'Insert from Device' step I have scripted writes to a global field which I have placed off the layout. Again, sometimes it works, other times not, even when activated from the same layout using the same script. Could this be a bug in FMGo 15? Also, sometimes when clicking on an image in a container field, instead of going to the app extensions, FMGo 15 quits. Relaunching, on the same layout and photo, it works as expected. Again a bug?
  7. I designed a FM Go app that uses a bluetooth scanner (Socket CHS 7). I can't find the way to control the active keyboard (scanner or ios). I tried the "Enable touch keyboard" script step but if I hide the keyboard, I loose the focus on the field that must get the scanned code, so it's like having no keyboard. That seems to be the problem: https://community.filemaker.com/thread/136708 a bug not fixed yet? So far the only way to hide the ios keyboard without loosing field focus is to turn off the ios keyboard is from the scanner itself, clicking twice the power button. Once the active keyboard is the scanner, I still have the edit bar that shows on the top of the ios keyboard covering the bottom of my FM Go app: Do you know if there's a way to hide this bar?
  8. Hiya, 1st of all - I have personally refrained from posting for help on a forum as I wanted to try and read, learn and solve my problems using trial and error! I am learning the FMP platform from scratch and am currently in week 2 of it. My question relates to a file I have attached to this post - the products area. For each product I have a number of 'size options' within it and each with their own unique SKU (stock keeping unit). Each SKU needs its own barcode. My job now is to produce a method to easily assign an 'available' barcode to a specific SKU. Barcodes are purchased from GS1 and are globally unique. I have a table hosting a pool of barcodes that I have available to me. They can only be assigned to one SKU and once assigned, needs to be removed from the available selection of barcodes in this pool. Issues I wanted to set a placeholder text for 'EAN-13' field in the product layout (this is the barcode). This field is a button! When clicked it can perform a script to open a popover or window containing all barcodes that do not have a 'ProductOptionID' assigned to it. How do I structure this script? Click the EAN field button - this sets the 'ProductOptionID' variable globally (is this correct to do) - [$$productOptionID] The script then opens the object 'Barcodes'. This is a popover button with a portal inside filtering all barcodes from the pool that do NOT have a productOptionID value in the foreign key field The script must then pause whilst I manually select a barcode and set a $BarcodeID variable? Or should I script it to pick a barcode at random from the pool of available barcodes (i've already set a script to give available a figure of 1 and unavailable a figure of 0) Then the script must put the BarcodeID variable in the product option record Is the above the right way to go about it? I also need a way to un-assign a barcode from a product and therefore remove the value from the product option id field in the barcode pool I have one more query. I have a relationship between Product Option table and the Barcode Pool. This relationship is O2M the barcodeIDpk with a lookup for the actual EAN (barcode) value on the Product Option table. When I set a barcode ID in the Product Option table - shouldn't the ProductOptionIDfk field update in the Barcode pool with the ID of the product option that the barcode is assigned to?? I am convinced I had it working earlier - but not anymore and cannot see to figure out why? See my relationship graph below and the solution attached. Thanks, Luke CRM Trial barcode.fmp12
  9. We have for many years (of forgotten and unknown reasons) put a zero in front of all 12-digit bar codes so that all bar codes in our FileMaker database appears as a 13-digit code. Our products in the database are from suppliers from all parts of the world and some are using EAN, while others use UPC. I need to separate them, so they will reflect the original barcodes (UPC (12) / EAN (13)). We have approximately 33,500 items in the database. How do I do it?

  11. dear forum,  i used this script in fm11 (image attached).  i used my database on my iphone with filemaker go. i had a button, when pushing it, it rans this script. opening a barcode scanner software and then returning the scanned result into the filemaker database in the search field. this way i was able to find a product in my database by scanning it with the iphone camera.  now i am using fm12. i pushed the SCAN button, but i get this error (error.jpg)  anybody has a idea why this error appears now?  sincerely, raitis   Â
  12. Hello, I am extremely new to Filemaker. I've been trying to learn it but time always dictates. I am trying to create what I believe is a simple database. What I am trying to do is to have a very basic system to track parts usage by our mechanics by either barcode or part number. Basically the mechanic would come up to the computer. Enter a unit #, worker order #, date, part #(either by manual entry or upc.) and qty. Then I would like to be able to print a report in the morning that will display Unit #, work order #, date, part # and qty. I can then take this information and enter it into our system. The problem I have is our system doesn't allow bar coding. Also some of our parts don't have barcodes such as tires and brass fittings so I need a manual part entry. I can't have the report show a upc number. So I need to have a way for the database to take the upc and switch to show the part # it is related to. I can get the system to work fine and show the repor that I want. The only problem I have is I can't get it to switch the upc to the part #. I was wondering if some one could take a look at what I have done and inform me on what I could do. I am not looking for someone to do it for me. Just give me some guiding information. I wanted to say thank you in advance for any information you can supply. Inventory 2.fmp12
  13. Task: Recieve input from user (using keyboard or barcode scanner) Lookup in Table_1 to see if the value exsists in the field "EAN" in any record If NO: show my error message (Other than numeric characters found or too few/many digits). If YES change the value of the field "Status" in the found record from "Inactive" to "Active" I need to validate the input to ensure that the format is excatly 13 digits (EAN-13 barcode). The barcodes in Table_1 is stored in text format. P.S. It would be nice to ask the user if the scanner returns only 12 digits: "Error! 1. Edit by keyborrd? 2. Add leading zero automaticly? 3. Cancel? P.P.S. Please excause my clumsy english; it's not my native language.
  14. Running build 205 I loaded Barcode4j.jar and added the code from the pinned topic. Everything seems to work until I go to create a plug-in. I follow the plug-in steps and it returns a message saying the plug-in was created but it doesn't actually create anything. Figured maybe I needed to restart FMP12... After doing that I get errors related to registering my barcode module because it can't access the jar. Using the reload script will get everything running again but I can't create the plug-in and will run into the same registering issue on a restart. Any advice?
  15. I use FMSP from Rcconsulting. really love that product and very grateful to Richards and his team. The above script scans bar-codes items (my products) for sales. Now the issue is this, each scan of the same item suppose to add an increment in the quantity of the item and not adding the item on a new row thus having multiple lines of the same item. basically one needs to manually enter the quantity of the products after scanning instead of continuous scanning with the scan gun. Is there a way this can be fixed? I really need help.
  16. i have a script to find and add barcode if not available, but, the problem is, it is not automatically add new barcode, if the find result is not available, any suggestion about this script? i want to to find barcode through iphone camera, if not available, it will automatically add the new barcode. thank you script.tiff
  17. I recently created an inventory solution from scratch (actually from video tutorials and from the contributions of the good people on this forum). It has been a fantastic project for me and I really appreciate all your help. Right now, I want to integrate my barcode scanner, so that i can easily make sales for customers by just scanning the barcodes of the product items. The products have barcodes already printed on them. Please how do I go about it. I am not really good in scripting, but thats the fun part for me (its all about learning) I will be attaching a copy of my file shortly.. thanks for your anticipated assistance shevy-INVENTORY.zip
  18. Has anyone had success using the zxing library to read/decode bar codes with ScriptMaster ? I generate them just fine using the Barcode4J library. I think I am having dependency issues (take a pill...) and not much forward momentum getting it to work. Examples, suggestions or commiseration are greatly accepted. regards... Bob Minteer
  19. I have a class attendance solution that I've been running with the help of FMGo 13 for some time. The solution uses a bluetooth barcode scanner and an iOS device to scan a student id and track attendance etc. The bluetooth connection to the iOS device has proven the weakest link in that it occasionally drops and requires re-pairing the device. While not rocket science to re-pair the scanner it's not ideal for the end user. With the advent of FMGo 14 one can now utilize the onboard iOS camera for scanning, however, I'm having difficulty creating a loop to keep the camera active. I would like the camera to scan and stay active so the user does not have to "activate" the camera with each scan. Anyone out there with any thoughts or experience with creating such a loop function for the FMGo 14/iOS camera feature?
  20. Version 12 broke the input streams for barcode readers. Best of my knowledge that didn't get fixed then. I never found a solution. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet on 14. My new job has limited use for barcodes, but we do a little. Does anybody know if this has been fixed in 13 or 14?
  21. Hello - I've hired an idiot. I mean - I hired this guy to manage our stock control and ensure that when a customer orders a product, the product is popped in a box and despatched out to the right address. Unfortunately the person I hired to complete this task was an idiot. We already have a neat FileMaker CRM solution for customers - so I figured I'd build a neat little stock control FileMaker database to help our new employee. I admit - I took it a little far. I drew some lines and made some calculations that would rotate and expand the lines to emulate code 39 barcodes so that I could run the filemaker database without having to install fonts. I drew some neat little layouts with photographs of the products, and when manufacturing finished a production run you could enter the number of products produced and the database would create the equivalent number of labels with the barcode on them, format them to print on a standard label sheet, and print the number of labels equivalent to the amount of stock produced. Even if you you printed say 5 labels from an avery label sheet of 8 - you could tell the stock control system to start at the 6th label in and it would work perfectly. We then took an old original iPad, popped a barcode reader into an iPad to USB adapter and let our idiot scan the barcodes as stock was despatched or brought in to update the system. I though it worked really well allowing all the folks that used the database to keep track of the amount of stock we had. The whole thing ran wireless, seamlessly integrated, it was beautiful. I mean - it was almost idiot proof. Only - as the old saying goes "A database is only as useful as the information in it), and it turns out the idiot wasn't using this iPad and scanning solution and instead filled his days looking at the internet on the iPad. So while idiot boy is browsing the internet on company time it was decided to upgrade our CRM solution from FileMaker 11 to FileMaker 12. This was for a totally separate reason relating to our CRM database. All the files were essentially updated from FP7 files to FMP12 files. Everything was working from a front office perspective (apart from our storeman who was reading the internet on company time). Anyway - roll forwards a few months, it turns out idiot boy is having extramarital affairs with another employee, he's been getting her to do his work, so she's been manually adjusting the stock on her computer, in a slightly related sense, our customers weren't receiving the products they had ordered, it was all being covered up, but thankfully the problem has now gone, and we are free from idiot boy. In his absence I decided I'd complete a full stock check. The problem I have is that the iPad and scanner combo still works great. The problem is that as he wasn't using the system, so the iPad still has FileMaker 11 Go installed on it, which won't allow us to open FMP12 files. I mean seriously - if the guy was even pretending to work he'd have at least updated the software so he could look busy! So - I need to install FileMaker Go 12 on the iPad. Which isn't available on the app store. But - I could install FileMaker Go 13 which will open FMP12 files on the iPad. But - it won't work on iOS 5.1.1. So I could ask for a copy of FileMaker Go 12 from FileMaker but they tell me that they can't supply this to me. So… I'm wondering if there is another way? I'm currently thinking about asking a friend if they have an original FileMaker Go.app file and seeing if they would send me a copy of this to try and install onto the company iPad. I feel fairly justified in this as the original software was distributed free on the app store and I paid for FileMaker Go 11. Alternatively - I'm thinking of buying a cheap iPad 2 / 3 on Ebay which will solve the problem but will set me back a fair chunk of cash which could probably be better spent. Anyway - if anyone has any thoughts that they would like to share I would be very grateful. Also - please don't hire idiots, you spend so much time trying to clean up afterwards you're better off holding out for an intelligent and considerate person to work alongside.
  22. Version 2015

This product is a demo of FileMaker custom functions that may be easily embedded within a database and used to generate barcodes such as Code-128 and Code-39 natively without fonts or plug-ins.

  23. I am using the new barcode scan feature available in FM GO 13 and I can't seem to get it to work. My script step is: Insert from Device [Equipment Log::zBarcode; Type: Bar Code; Camera: Back; Resolution: Full] I have all the barcode types enabled and the barcode that I am testing with is Code39. The error that I get is "Specified field has inappropriate filed type". Equipment Log::zBarcode is a Text field. I tried changing it to a Container field to see if that would make a difference, but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Ryan
