  2. I have a solution that is hosted by FMS14 and remotely accessed by my client. My development files have file access protection enabled, and I have authorized the opener file to open the UI file, but they do not have encryption-at-rest (EAR) enabled. Prior to uploading the files to server, I add EAR protection. I am confused because after the encrypted files are uploaded and I go to open them with the opener file (that I thought was authorized), I get the error message that the opener file is not authorized and I am required to input my full access credentials. I am willing to do this, but it means that every time I update the files, I have to re-send my client the opener file that has been authorized for the updated files, and they have to download and replace their opener file for all users and I would like to eliminate this hassle for them. Is there a way to allow the opener file to remain authorized when uploading updated files? Do I need to add authorization for the opener file while the UI and data files have EAR enabled? Thank you for your guidance!
  3. WebDirect -- how secure?

I currently have a Filemaker 15 solution running on Filemaker Server 15 Advanced. We are currently accessing the solution on Webdirect via VPN connection. I would like to open ports 80/443 so that users could access the solution without connecting to VPN. However, my IT department has flagged security concerns. My question is how real the security concerns are. I know that Filemaker Server 15 Advanced should be encrypting the data. Would that make a non-VPN connection secure? Thanks for any advice.

  7. Hello All, Just a little background info; We have a great application which is used by banking institutions, and we are being asked some due diligence questions based on IT concerns of our client. These are a few of the questions they are asking, and if anyone could provide some insight I would greatly appreciate it. How is communication encrypted between clients and host? It is my understanding that this is using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection in between our FileMaker Server and FileMaker Pro/ADV users. We do have SSL enabled on our FileMaker server database settings. Is this sufficient information to answer this question, should more details be provided (SHA type, Hash Values etc..)or is it not necessary? How and where is our client data encrypted? This is the question that really threw me for a loop. I did take a look at the security documents for FileMaker, but the only mention of encryption is "Data encryption - The data stored within a FileMaker file can be encrypted..." It is my understanding that .FMP files already have some security features in place, such as privilege sets file access levels and so on. However, I know this does not mean encryption. This simply means we have security features on our filemaker data files. How does this relate to encryption or does this at all? Do we need a 3rd party encryption application to handle this? That is just the encryption part of my question, the Where throws me for an even further loop. The Where should be on the database server where our live files are held, as live client data is hosted files, but this part is just my assumption. Again any insight here would be greatly appreciated, hopefully one of the many FileMaker Developer have encountered these types of questions before and can shed some light on the topic. Thanks!
