  1. Hey, I have a Tab-Separated Text File which I want to import to a database that I just created in FileMaker Pro 15. The text file essentially is a log of events, for instance, one line describes an order, another line describes a payment that has been made. The problem is that I somehow need to import all these lines into different tables. I want all lines in the log file that describe a payment in a table called Payments, and all lines that describe an order in a table called Orders for example. I'm just starting out with FileMaker so forgive me if there is an obvious solution that I'm not aware of. I have a background in software development, so the only solution that I can think of is writing a small program myself that does all the parsing for me and creates separate text files that contain all the orders and payments and other events that have been logged in the file. Then I could simply import each file into the table I need all the data in. So to sum everything up, my main question is if there is a way to somehow parse the text file before importing it. I know that you can create custom scripts in FileMaker but I'm not sure if what I need to do can be done just with that. Thanks in advance, Mike
  2. Hello, Application log can keep trace of user operations and can be used to debug some issues. Using database records is not enough fast in my experience, but using either a global field or a variable is not a solution in case of an application crash because data will not be saved. A possible solution could be using this plugin to write logs to local log file directly. My questions are: Will that be fast enough when used intensively to log script instructions and user operations ? Is the file opened and closed for each write instruction (so that writing are committed, otherwise it will not be useful in case of an application crash) ? Thanks

  6. Video streaming Problem

Hello, I am running Filemaker pro advanced 12 on windows 7 I have been searching allover the internet for an answer to this question but i can seem to find exactly what i am looking for. I am now using forums as my only hope. I am really new at all this and I am presently working on a project for a client. Basically, I am trying to create a video database for a production company that will allow every computer in the office to acces, add, remove and download different videos within a database that i have created in our server. I have developed the database template but I am having problems with reading videos from the other computers. After importing the video files in the file container (on the server) i can read without any problem the videos on the server. BUT, on the other computers and the Filemaker go apps, after opening a remote connexion, in the container field, it is written '' This file cannot be found''. I am pretty sure this has something to do with a misuse of the new features of the remote file containers but what options exactly do i need to enable in order to acces and read the videos from other computers, ipads or ipods. Is this problem because of the fact that i am not using filemaker server which im pretty sure allows streaming, unlike FM pro advanced 12. Can we acces, read or stream video files hosted on a server from another computer or ipad or iphone? Using FM pro advanced 12 If possible, can somebody guide me to succes? Thank you in advance!
  7. HELP! I have put together an import script that uses ScriptMaster for a couple things like check for the existence of the fuel, create a folder, move it and zip it. When running this on the desktop, it works flawlessly, Now I need it to work from the server as a scheduled script. I can confirm that the plugin is indeed loading and loading all necessary scripts for the various functions, all ok. But the buck stops there. If I ask, does the files exist? I get back, NO. If I check from the data viewer on the desktop for a copy of the file in my documents folder--YES....on the sever documents? NO. I changed the permission on the files in case that was the issue...No difference. So--do I have the files in the right place, you ask? /MacHD/Library/FileMaker Server/Documents/ uh--check! I have tried checking with both the above path and just /Library/FileMaker Server/Documents/ and neither work. I am using FMSA12. And since you can't run a debugger in the server environment I am sending back emails to my self with some status updates as to the script progress. I can confirm that the plugin is definitely loaded and all required modules are loaded.
