  1. I have searched the forum and internet and not found an answer to my delima. I have a solution with a scripted import of a csv file. I do not want import dialog (e.g. mapping), so I have it set to no. I don't know the name of the file, only that it is a csv file. If I leave the filename out of the import dialogue, the default SHOW filetype in the open file dialog is for a filemaker database. The user needs education to change the SHOW to csv or all. That is undesirable. If I import a correct file once, the next time the script runs in that session, it prompts for a csv file, but if I quit the application and run it again, it goes back to SHOWing filemaker databases. If I provide a bogus file, e.g. YourFile.csv -- I have to capture errors or I get no file dialog for them to find their file. If they cancel, they get a filemaker dialog I don't control that tells them the user aborted the import, continue or cancel. If they cancel, the script exits and I don't get control. That, too, is undesirable. What is the best practice for scripted imports so that whether the user complies or cancels, I maintain control of what happens next?
  2. My FMP pro 15 doesn't allow to import ".avi" and ".mkv" files. The error is the files are not the specified file type How to do so?
  3. Hi everyone, I am trying to run a server sided script that will import a found set. The server sided script opens a handler file that opens data file 1, does the find, imports into data file 2. However, the search works in script debugger but imports all records. The script opens layout A, searches goes to layout b, imports. Also the import of the selected fields seems not be remembered. I am stuck..... Thank you
  4. Hi! using FM18v3 I defined an import, update using key with option :add remaining. Odd enough, when running the import for the first time, the key field remains empty. (Unexpected) As a result the second time I run the script I get new records, but now the keyfieldfield is filled. (Expected) The third time the import also runs as expected ( no new records ). I fixed this by defining this script in FM18 using an if. Eventually, I launched FM17 and re-did the script. Now it works like it should. Anyone else can replicate this? Kind regards,
  5. Hi all, Hope you might shed some light on this issue. I am writing a script to sync information between Filemaker Pro & Go, but the record import process is behaving strangely. Basically, for each table I want to synchronise, I have a batch of 4 scripts. This consists of 3 "doing" scripts, and one "controller" script. The controller script simply performs the 3 "doing" scripts, in order. I have 6 tables. Each has its own set of 4 sync scripts, which are mostly identical, except of course to reference the table I'm syncing at the time. *********** Now, obviously I want a nice big "Sync Now" button. This button performs one more script, which runs my 6 "controller" scripts in order. Thus, "Sync Now" should synchronise all 6 of my tables. Here's the weird bit. If I run the "controller" script manually for any given table, the table syncs perfectly. However, if I run all 6 "controller" scripts one after the other, using my "Sync Now" script, I get weird behaviour. Specifically, my iPad manages to update the master database with its changes (step 3 below), but fails to subsequently purge and reimport the freshly updated information from the master (step 4). I put in some deliberate pauses into the script so I could monitor the progress. The iPad does appear to reimport the data from master, but once the complete Sync Now script has run, the imported data is no longer in the table. It just disappears. I would normally assume that another of my scripts was giving a "Delete All" command, but it can't be, since the same would happen if/when I run the script manually on its own. I hope this makes sense! Any input appreciated. Is there a fundamental problem with using scripts to run scripts to run scripts etc? Thanks everyone. The scripting process is as follows: ***************** 1 - For a given table on the iPad, compare records against the equivalent table in the master database on FM Pro 2 - Delete records from the iPad which haven't changed, based on a modification date and unique ID 3 - Upload all new and updated records to the master database 4 - Once the upload is complete, purge the iPad table and import a fresh set of records from the master *****************
  6. I am usisng FM 12 03 advanced. I consistently get this problem and can't get a handle on the underlying cause (besides my not getting it).... I have a medical records application. There is a table for patients and table for doctors. I have a import script that goes to a layout for doctors and again for patients and deletes all records. This works. I then, via script, goto import using the same layouts and find that the doctor table is trying to use Patients as a source.? Weird. Why Patients? When I uncheck 'perform without dialog" I can see that the source is Patients. So, I reselect Doctors and it works. I save the script. Sometimes, the source stays as Doctors. Sometimes it reverts back to Patients. Once I get it to perform consistently several times it stays well behaved. I dont' see what causes this behavior. I suspect there is something fundamental I don't 'get'. So, the question is "What am I not getting about mapping?" Thanks Ron
  7. I have a simple contact solution with just a table. I need to import my contacts pictures from a folder. All pictures have been named using an ID, which matches the ID field on the contact table. Please how do Import these photos so as to match the ID field . I am familiar with importing from csv and excel files but not this one. Thanks.
  8. I've attached two files. The first one is INVOICE, that is generated by every establishment when you purchase, and is in xml format. The second one is XSLT file, that is provided by government fiscal institution and is used to "translate" xml. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: when I try to decode xml using attached xslt scheme on any online xml-converter website the output looks fine. BUT when importing to Filemaker, I receive an error: "XML parsing error: invalid document structure". I would appreciate any help with the issue. Thanks. XML input.xml XSLT scheme.xslt
  9. I have been reading and think I am clear on creating paths for export. Been practicing imports also. I can use a variable to say the file name but... I will have files for import where they are identical but first three characters of the file. How can I write generic import if it insists on my specifying the name? I wish I could say to import ALL files in a directory. I will know all but first three characters (ID of part number) of the file name. I wish I could say, "tell me all the file names that are in that directory" and the script like a loop or something and grab them all and import them. And how can I get the file name that I am importing into the imported records so I know where they came from? Please ideas. I don't even know the technical word for what I am asking. oh and I see I had put originally that I was intermediate. I realize I was very wrong after my last post. I will go change it back to ding-dong or whatever the earlier levels are so please respond like I'm one.
  10. I seem to be having issues keeping my import scripts nicely lined up. I am trying to set up a script for importing a file on a recurring basis. There are new files put out (updated data) and I want to import those the same way each time. So I have created a script that lines up the fields in the file. First off, you have to provide it a filename (it seems) in order to even get field names with which to do alignments. Makes some sense, as it doesn't know what fields are named in the file if it doesn't have a file. But then if you delete that filename from the 'add file' window, those names go away. So then if you take the next file you want to import doesn't appear to be working, or you open the DB on a different computer, or in a different directory, and you go open the 'Import...' script step, all the names are un-arranged. So to proceed any further you have to rearrange everything again. Is this just because the original file template-name was deleted? What if the name was still there but the file itself wasn't? In short, how do I keep this alignment consistent? Thanks, J
  11. Hi - I have a shrink wrapped solution that imports data from previous version into new version when I do an upgrade. I'm using FMP 13, and some of my users will be upgrading from FMP 11 versions. So I'll need to convert those databases before import. Obviously, it they already have a FMP12/13 version database, no conversion is necessary. However - my solution changes the file extension to the same extension regardless of the version - so I can't tell from file extension whether a conversion is needed. Is there some way to test a file via a script to see whether it's a pre-FMP12 version that needs to be converted? Thanks, Michael
  12. I have a simple membership app whereby I have Members Table -<< Awards Members Table -<< Dues etc... This project has been going on for over 18 months and I have a couple of users who have 'cross linked' their primary keys. That is, I have placed a read only copy of the Primary Key on the Members layout and I can see that there are sometimes 2 members with the same Primary Key. Weird. (The PK is Auto Enter, Serial Number, X Prohibit Modification During Entry) Anyway, as I release current versions of my app, the users import the previous version. This is scripted and it works well. I would like to somehow cause each imported Member record to generate a 'new' PKey and have each 'Many table' Foreign Key receive that Primary Key. But, I can't even come up with the paradime of how to do that. I sure would appreciate some guidance from my more experienced fellow FM programmers. Thank you Ron
  13. Hi. Am a beginner, so please bear with me ... The purchaser of our products have gone EDI XML, and I would like to be able to extract some information from their order XMLs, into a FMP database. Have searched the net and found xslt templates that I have tried to tweak, but for some reason I am not getting any data into the FMP file ... only empty fields. Here is the source xml ordre_4500644900_20150925093113.xml - and here is an example (only testing a couple fields to see if it works) nytest2_header.xsl I am sure there is something very simple I am missing in the reference side of things. Does it matter if the source file uses ns0 before each node? Do I need to declare this in the xsl? ordre_4500644900_20150925093113.xml nytest2_header.xsl
  14. Hi - I'm developing a business solution to be hosted on FM Server. It will be hosted on Soliant Cloud. This is my first time developing for Server. I read Steven and Wim's whitepaper on FM 16 security, which was very helpful. In the past, when I've created upgrades to my solution, I've imported data from the previous version into the new one. Each update is a modified version of the previous file. I read about the benefits of using File Access Protection. My solution is a single file solution so I can basically exclude any other file having access - except I'm not sure what impact that will have on import from previous versions. I assume both files will have the same ID - but not sure if that means that FM will see the older version as trusted or not. Thanks!
  15. Hi, We have a FMP Server 11 and a FMP 13 version. We cannot upgrade the FM Server 11 to 13. We need to get FM13 data into the FMServer 11. Are there ways to accomplish this ? - Export records script from FM13 - ODBC connection between FM11 and FM13 ? Thanks for looking into my question.
  16. Hi there I've been banging my head all day, several days in fact, to create a sub summary report which can reuse records, have a part appear only once and allow me to assert more behaviour over the parts themselves. To complicate the matter it's in a crosstab format as well. I've seen on other posts that what developers do occasionally when preparing reports is to create a temp table of sorts to either store just what records are needed, or to store them in the way they're needed as well. The solution I have at the moment uses lots of summing up and calculations and is intolerably slow to load locally (10 seconds at worst) although it does give me what I need. I obviously want to improve this so ultimately a second table related to the parent with just what I want, just how I want it sounds good. At this point I will add I may have this completely wrong - apologies, it's an idea I'm throwing around! The whole reason I'm looking at this is because I cannot get my sub summary report to behave the way I need it, which may be a failing on my part, but it's a pretty complex report as I've said. So, in concept, is this whack or normal?
  17. Hi, I'm looking for help with creating a script to transfer amended records into an audit log. For context I currently have a separate table that any amended fields move over to, how ever this works for one field at a time, but I'm running into problems when bulk importing a bunch of new records. When I import new records I get them to match up on one common field, the rest I want to record in the audit log but only if theres been a change. So far my script looks like this: This is just for one field and there are about ten I wish to audit log if theres been a change, naturally I can just repeat this part of the script and adjust accordingly. My problem is getting it to loop for every record. Obviously I want to set the variable for the old record for every and compare it before moving onto the next, but Im just unsure how to structure it and where to put my loops as if I loop the whole thing and use move to next record, it'll ask me to import new records each time it gets to that part of the script. So is there anyway to create a loop but get it to ignore the import records after the first loop? Or do I need to approach this differently? Kind Regards.
  18. Hi FMers, I'm trying to get multiple choice quiz questions into a FileMaker database. The information is in a plain text file. Question and options are simply separated by returns: Where in the cell is the genome located? Mostly in the cytosol. Mostly in the mitochondria. [X] Mostly in the nucleus. Stored in the membrane. Stored in RNA. Next question... Each question has 5 options, one of which is correct [X]. There's an empty line between questions. What's a good approach to get this into a FileMaker database with separate fields for the questions, the options, and the correct solution? All the best
  19. Hello Newbie here. I am trying to create a remotely hosted FileMaker 11 script that has the following attributes: 1. Imports a folder full of image files. 2. The folder is never the same, it can be a different folder, on a different drive, etc. 3. Need to allow the user to select the folder they want. 4. Do NOT want the user to be presented with any other dialogue boxes, especially Import Field Order, or "Auto enter?" and so on. I've tried and tried, but every combination of options on the Import script step, in one way or another, does not meet all four criteria listed above at the same time. I can get it to do one-or-the-other, but not all of the above at the same time. How would one go about this? Thanks!
  20. Hi, I'm trying to import ODBC tables (from a VisualFoxPro database) into my database located on a FileMaker Server. The ODBC source / DSN are located on the same computer as my Server. The trouble is, when I try to import the tables, either from the File menu or by setting up a script, I can only choose my LOCAL DSNs, not the ones setup on the server. Any suggestions? I am eventually going to want to to server-scheduled scripts, but this task is more specifically about having a user activate a script that will run an import from the ODBC source to the Filemaker database, all on the server side. And since the source is VisualFoxPro, a live External Data Source is not an option Thanks for any help!
  21. Dear fmforum,  i have a database with about 1000 items. each item has up to six images. i would like that each image has a filename that looks like this: "product id"_1.jpg the second image should have a filename that looks like this: "product id"_2.jpg  and so on.. where "product id" is the unique number for each item.  i have a script that exports the items image and changes its filename to: "product id"_x.jpg  is there a way to change the images filename when IMPORTING it to my database?  i attached a screenshot of my export filename script and another screenshot where you can see the difference between the filenames. the left one has the original filename and the right one has been exported and then imported back to my database and now has the right filename.  i am running filemaker advanced pro 12.0v3 on MAC.
  22. Hello, I have XML data from an online form service (below). How can I get the data into fields in FM? Each record in my FM contains fields for each xml_serializer_tag/value. Also, is there a way to use a ‘for-each’ loop to create the field names in the meta data section (rather than manually describing each)? There is MUCH more data in the actual XML. I was able to create an XSLT that transforms the info. But it was all getting dumped into one field, rather than each into their own. Thanks for your help. XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <response status="ok"> <submissions> <submission> <id>179890809</id> <timestamp>2015-01-21 07:44:55</timestamp> <data> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367523</field> <label>Email</label> <value>something@somewhere.com</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367524</field> <label>Name</label> <value>Fry</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> </data> </submission> <submission> <id>179988171</id> <timestamp>2015-01-27 10:11:54</timestamp> <data> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367523</field> <label>Email</label> <value>test@example.com</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367524</field> <label>Name</label> <value>Leela</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> </data> </submission> <submission> <id>17998369</id> <timestamp>2015-02-17 11:15:24</timestamp> <data> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367523</field> <label>Email</label> <value>some@example.com</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> <XML_Serializer_Tag> <field>29367524</field> <label>Name</label> <value>Bender</value> </XML_Serializer_Tag> </data> </submission> </submissions> </response> XSLT attempt (zero errors, but not getting the data into fields the way I would like) <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"> <xsl:template match="/"> <FMPXMLRESULT xmlns="http://www.filemaker.com/fmpxmlresult"> <METADATA> <FIELD NAME="Email" TYPE="TEXT"/> <FIELD NAME="Name" TYPE="TEXT"/> </METADATA> <RESULTSET FOUND=""> <xsl:for-each select="//submission"> <ROW MODID="" RECORDID=""> <COL> <DATA><xsl:value-of select="data/XML_Serializer_Tag/value"/></DATA> </COL> </xsl:for-each> </RESULTSET> </FMPXMLRESULT> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet>
  23. I have a client that would like to use MS Access to connect to a table in a solution hosted on FMS 14.0.3. What I'm reading suggests that was possible with .fmp5 and .fmp7 but is no longer available in .fm12. I've tried to use Access and both (mac) Excel and (windows) Excel to connect via ODBC to the FMS hosted table and I can construct the query and see the fields, but when I submit the request I get an error. Is it still possible to connect Excel or Access to FileMaker 14.0.3 (hosted)? The error I get appears on the attached screenshot. Is anyone currently doing this? Thank you in advance.
  24. Hi My scenario is, when I used to RUN a Import (Folder with Import only the reference) script from a iMac mini to remote Windows File server, it used to take 4-8 hours. But when started using the same script from Same server(Windows), it started to take more than 24 hours. Only things I have changed: Import from Windows FS ( Files of type Windows from OS X) Modified the Folder location to local server. Any suggestions or known issues.. Pls note: Previously we used Filemaker 10-11 now using 13-14 in both client server. The old Mac was OS X (10.5.8) with FM Advanced 10. And the old remote server was a Physical windows 2008 server with FM 10 server running as well as Fileserver to hold the files which where been imported as reference.
  25. I have a shrinkwrap solution with a separate installer/updater file. That file contains the scripts that creates a temporary file of each of the old and the new FMP file, performs an import into the new file then compares the results and continues. When I prepare the installer, I need to have a copy of each of the old and new FMP files so the updater file can map the fields that are used in the temp files. The purpose of the structure is so I don't have to remap the fields or check the field mapping each time I do an update. Someone else has written this for me and I've generally still only used FMP 11. I understand that FMP 13 maintains field mapping by the field ID rather than the field name. Also, this seems very familiar and I'm pretty sure someone has written and sells something like this - I can't remember who though. There's an assumption that all the tables exist and fields will only be added and not deleted to new files over time. The files have an internal BuildID that's used to track revisions. The person who wrote this for me has said I don't need to be concerned with the version of the 'old' file and to simply always provide the first version of the solution. The field mapping will always be correct. I can't think of a specific situation when this won't work, but it doesn't seem to make sense. I feel like I'm just not thinking clearly and missing something but I would think that a specific old version of the file would have to be provided. It seems that I would need a separate script (or some sort of branching) for each 'old' build of the file to assure the mapping is correct. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could go wrong here? I do a variety of validation after the export but since admin privs are removed from all the files it's very difficult to check everything for a possible field mapping error. Thanks much!
