  1. [FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] Prague, CZ -- December 17, 2019 -- 24U extends the range of hardware modules that can be easily integrated with the FileMaker platform by adding support the popular open-source hardware platform Arduino. The successful Phidgets Plug-In so becomes Bridge to reflect the growing range of supported hardware platforms. About Bridge 24U Bridge is a module (add-on, plug-in) that acts as a bridge between software apps, developed on the FileMaker platform, and physical devices to allow them to be controlled by the software or to control the software. Bridge has been known as 24U Phidgets Plug-In for over 10 years since 2008 as a plug-in enabling the FileMaker platform to integrate with physical devices provided by Phidgets, Inc. Today, 24U has extended its support to the world of Arduino, another popular sort of physical devices, commonly used for electronics prototyping projects, changing its name to Bridge to reflect the fact that it's no longer limited to a single technology. Support for more device technologies is expected to be added to the product in the future, depending on actual demand. About Arduino According to Arduino AG, "Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger on a button, or a Twitter message - and turn it into an output - activating a motor, turning on an LED, publishing something online. You can tell your board what to do by sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller on the board." The Arduino project started in 2005 as a program for students at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Ivrea, Italy, aiming to provide a low-cost and easy way for novices and professionals to create devices that interact with their environment using sensors and actuators. Since then in became popular not only for students and hobbyists, but also for technology professionals looking for cost-effective way to build custom hardware solutions addressing specific, often new or unique, business needs. About Bridge for Arduino Bridge for Arduino enables FileMaker Pro to interact with custom hardware devices based on the popular open-source Arduino platform while maintaining the ease of use typical for FileMaker development. By default, Arduino boards come free of any software and developers have to write their own code to make them do something. Bridge for Arduino comes with a ready-to-use firmware that saves FileMaker developers from having to write a single line of programming language code, letting them to focus on their use cases and easily control their devices directly from FileMaker Pro. The plug-in lets FileMaker developers easily: Read from Arduino pins to process digital signals and sensor values Write directly to Arduino pins to control various electrical devices Control servo and stepper motors to automate moving parts of robots and machines Display text on an LCD display to provide custom user interface such as cashbox Connect Arduino boards over network to control and monitor distant devices Install 24U's firmware to Arduino to avoid having to write your own C code The first version of Bridge for Arduino supports Arduino UNO board and its 100% compatible clones, Arduino Starter Kit, Arduino Ethernet shield, and the ESP-01 wi-fi module. Support for other boards and modules will be added in the future based on actual demand, support for specific setup can be also added upon request as a custom modification. Availability and Pricing of Bridge for Arduino Licenses for Bridge for Arduino start at US$79 per user and device or $249 per user with unlimited devices. Volume discounts are available for 5 or more users. 2. 360Works Case Study: Sightlines Group Integrates FileMaker and Salesforce using MirrorSync About Sightlines Group - Improving Organizational Systems and Processes Sightlines Group, founded by Chris Barber, works with foundations, community-based organizations, and global technology and banking firms by helping them develop custom software, and by designing and delivering leadership development programs. Sightlines Group works with technical teams or with entire organizations who need to build better relationships with their constituents, track outcomes, research their impact, and tell their story. Furthermore, they provide leadership development and coaching work, including the design and delivery of hundreds of courses to clients including HSBC Bank, Hitachi Vantara, and The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund. FileMaker - The Flexible CRM Early on, Chris and his team developed some opinions about the role of customer relationship management (CRM) software, especially for foundations and nonprofits. “Often CRMs box people in and get in the way of adaptation,” says Chris Barber. Sightlines Group works most often with the FileMaker and Salesforce platforms to experience greater flexibility and scalability. FileMaker allows high flexibility, rapid prototyping, and rapid development. Salesforce allows out-of-the-box integration and enterprise scalability. The Use Case - Syncing Data Between FileMaker and Salesforce The CFE Fund (The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund: cfefund.org) is a national foundation that helps cities integrate financial empowerment into local government services. Their organization chose the Salesforce platform for its Case Management system which supports Financial Counselors located in cities across the country. First, however, the CFE Fund needed to transform and migrate several years worth of data from a legacy system into Salesforce. Sightlines Group used FileMaker’s rapid development tools to extract data from the legacy system and transform it into Salesforce’s data model. Rather than using traditional migration tools, they reached out to 360Works to see if MirrorSync could allow them to “sync” the data into Salesforce rather than performing a tricky one-time migration. This would allow the migration to happen over time, since data could be migrated to Salesforce, then inspected, and then further transformed from FileMaker, and then synced again to Salesforce. The Solution - Using MirrorSync for FileMaker and Salesforce Integration Upon first using MirrorSync, Chris and his team at Sightlines Group were pleased to find that they could trust MirrorSync to work reliably under the hood. “MirrorSync worked very well in the background, it has a lot of logic built in. Anyone who has worked with sync, knows that is usually not the case,” recalled Chris. The Sightlines Group team was able to be an important contributor to the use of this Salesforce configuration in MirrorSync for other FileMaker developers by providing helpful experiences they had while working. Chris shared that he was grateful for ongoing efforts from the 360Works team in always taking feedback and turning it around for improvements. MirrorSync Provides Seamless Integration MirrorSync was able to significantly improve the speed and efficiency in their workflow while accessing data between FileMaker and Salesforce. “Now, we can do this in a snap. We’ll work in FileMaker and watch it sync, using MirrorSync, to Salesforce a moment later. MirrorSync has made a big impact on our work. It's allowed us to merge the best that Salesforce has to offer with the best that FileMaker has to offer," shares Chris. He is very pleased with their new tight integration between FileMaker and Salesforce, he enjoys being able to hook in a variety of web services and have the choice of having them hook to FileMaker or hook to Salesforce. Sightlines Group has configured their custom application for The CFE Fund to report back to FileMaker so they can take various actions based on the results in Salesforce, automatically. For example, they now have logic built in for posting to a Slack channel if there is any unexpected behavior within their application. It made their lives so much easier to receive clear information about what's happening back in FileMaker, without it feeling like a bulky add-on. MirrorSync Manages Keys The feature they enjoy the most is the way MirrorSync manages keys. “It automatically inserts, edits, and deletes child or parent records depending on your architecture. Salesforce keeps its own primary keys, so MirrorSync will take a new record in FileMaker, create a new record in Salesforce, get the Salesforce Id, and write that back to FileMaker, all automatically. If it did not work this way with managed keys, Salesforce would error out as Salesforce has strict key requirements,” reports Chris. Final Result: A Complete, Synchronized Custom Application MirrorSync is known amongst FileMaker developers to be an automated, customizable, and a fast-working tool. You can set it to sync just certain tables, fields, and records as needed - creating the most customizable synchronization solution. It even does bi-directional synchronization. It's a set-it-and-forget-it solution, and it's very fast. We can enter our data in FileMaker and 30 seconds later it propagates to Salesforce,” says Chris. Chris and his team at Sightlines Group are experts in innovation. They work with millions of records in a single solution for The CFE Fund. The technology they choose must be robust enough to handle financial data at a large scale, at all times. Using MirrorSync allowed them to continue building the best possible, most reliable technology solutions for their clientele. “MirrorSync was a lifesaver! We have been using it for about a year now syncing a few million records and 10 tables. It is nearly bulletproof, Chris reports. ”It allows us to get our hands into the data in ways you normally cannot when working with nonprofits. With MirrorSync being bulletproof, we don't have to worry about the syncing, we can step back and treat the application as one: Salesforce and FileMaker.” --- Contact 360Works for questions or a free 14-day trial of MirrorSync's FileMaker and Salesforce (SQL database) configuration at plugins@360works.com Visit the MirrorSync product page!

  4. Hi all, Today I'm happy to announce the release of Elemental for FileMaker. This is a free fully unlocked solution containing some cool user interface and design stuff that I hope you find useful and can incorporate into your own solutions. You can grab a copy now at https://www.elemental-fm.com In Elementals first version you'll find the following: Avatars Over 20 API integrations with avatar generators. These are uniquely generated based on a name you provide so you are guaranteed almost a unique avatar in each instance. Great if you want to add a bit of imagery to your contact lists or any other lists of records. Heaps of customisation and options to choose from. Integration is simple, just copy and paste the relevant script into your own solution and hook it up to your own container field where you want the image to be stored. Placeholders Much like avatars, placeholders are dummy image services of various types where you can auto generate a placeholder image. This is great if you need some sample imagery for things like products or inventory, or to indicate the desired size of an image to be inserted. Icons Need an SVG icon for your button bar? We have over 7,000 icons to choose from, all have been modified and are FileMaker ready. Animations Animations add a bit of life to your FileMaker solution. We have both GIF and SVG animations (using SMIL). GIF is for all around compatibility, and SVG's are if your computer can handle it (most macs can, windows maybe!) Really cool if you want to show something while a script is running to keep the user entertained, sometimes it's the small things that make a difference to user experience. Gradients Browse over 300 different gradient swatches to get inspired and use the colors provided to build your own in FileMaker. Other cool stuff The solution is unlocked so you can explore the layouts and find out how it all works. You might also uncover some hidden gems in there such as html5 color pickers, double range sliders and SVG to PNG conversion all without plugins I really hope you enjoy elemental and find something useful in it which you can use in your own solutions you build. Elemental will always remain free but if you would like to say thank you with a donation then you can do so on the website. This helps to ensure continued development of elemental in future.
  5. So.... Is there a definitive list anywhere of calendar implimentations & 3rd party options? 1. It would be great to have a listing of them, so one can make an intelligent decision. 2. It would also be great to have some comparisons by "knowledgeable" individuals regarding their options. I'm looking for something to inject into a solution, which allows me to easily add in project dates (from other tables), have it create deadlines (say a set of preferred alerts at X days prior to), and have the ability to tie into iCal or some other such integrated platform... Ideas?

  10. I would like to create a database for our school district that would allow teachers to post the "Link" from the iTunes App Store database into a field in FP12, and then the FP12 database would access the other fields from iTunes (Name of App, cost of app, category, etc) into fields in FP12. Then teachers would only need to open iTunes App Store, find their app, copy link and paste into a new record in FP12. Add their School, Grade (or Course) and Teacher Name to post all the apps required for students to download to their iPads. Students would use FP GO, Enter their School / Gr (or Course) / Teacher and a list of Apps (with their links) would be presented for them to access. It would be nice if this list had the names of the Apps (pulled from iTunes DB). How do you connect a FP12 database to an iTunes DB though? I would like to do the same for our FP12 Inventory database and connect it to the GSX database so when we look at our inventory, it would pull data from GSX (eg warranty information). How?

  25. Hello, I need to consume 4 SAP Web Service from a FileMaker solution. The service uses a SOAP Protocol, so a .xml request to the web service needs to be generated and sent to the web service. The result will come back as another .xml over which some parsing will be required to extract the result of the request. I have learnt that this kind of situations was solved in the past with the FM Nexus Web Services Plug-in. The plug-in "read" the WSDL document, which in essence defines the web service functions, and created a bunch of external functions that could be used right from our FileMaker calculation dialog. These functions automatically generated the request .xml file to be submitted to the web service. Additionally, the plug-in provided some functions to parse the .xml returned by the web service by using XPATH syntax. So it was a nice round solution! I have not been able to find an alternative solution to FM Nexus Web Services Plug-in, since it is not available anymore. I have been trying to evaluate if ScriptMaster could be of any help. I have reached the conclusion that I would need to develop some Java code to write a ScriptMaster module and then create a plug-in to be used as an external function in the FileMaker solution. The problem is the Java code, since I do not have any knowledge on that. So, I need somebody that could write these 4 ScriptMaster modules for me. Could these be done by 360Works? I am open to give more details to anybody interested, so a quote could be prepared to estimate time & cost. Thanks, Rafa 52 ViewsCategories: IntegrationTags: Content tagged with web services
