  1. In this article we cover how to build a beautiful sliding drawer menu that works on both FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Go. The menu looks and feels exactly like any other sliding menu built in any other development platform. FileMaker Go is where it really shines, providing a user experience no different to if they were using a drawer on any other native app. Click here to check out the full article at FileMaker Weetbicks
  2. I want to remove the layout option on the menu header bar since, basically, I do not want the user to be able to change layouts except through the my built in navigation. Is this possible?
  3. Hi All, Does anyone know why my scripts drop down menu might be greyed out? I am unable access these functions. Cheers, Simon
  4. Layout not based on a table

Hi all I have started using FileMaker about a month ago, and before then I haven't even heard about it. I've done a lot of reading, watched videos, went through training materials... Since then I normalized the existing database and am working on making things work properly. I managed to get filtered portals work and used ExecuteSQL to perform a count for which I didn't want to create another relationship. So far so good. But now I am stuck. It might be easy but I just don't see a solution. I want to create a layout that is not based on any table. It will just be a layout with a bunch of buttons that would open various reports. How can I do this? The way I understand it is that when I create a layout, I have to select a table. But then, even if I don't add any fields, the layout has some records and even though I don't display field information from the table, I can see that it depends on these records. I tried to use an empty table for the underlying table, but then the user can still click "New record" and even save empty records into this table, so I don't think this should be a solution. Thank you in advance!
  5. Heads up: Our users have found that value lists in popup menus that formerly ignored pre-pended characters for sorting, now respect them. For instance, in FileMaker 12, values that were pre-pended with an asterisk were displayed in Alpha-numeric order by default — and the pre-pended asterisk was ignored: Now, in FileMaker 13, these characters are included in the default sort order, so all of the pre-pended values are now together at the top of the list: If anyone has suggestions on how I can restore the previous behavior (short of reverting back to FileMaker 12!), I'm all "ears". Thanks in advance, - - Scott
  6. Crestline, CA, Oct 24, 2013 -- Dracoventions has released 2empowerFM Hands-Free Printer v3.1 to fix issues with the new OS X 10.9 Mavericks. No Mavericks compatibility problems were found with the remaining plug-ins in the 2empowerFM family. Updates are available immediately at 2empowerFM.com for both Macintosh and Windows. This release also brings a new licensing policy: Plug-in updates have always been free for a year, but now you also get minor updates beyond that year. Since OS X changed to a yearly release schedule, we found that too many people had to purchase a license upgrade almost yearly just to keep up with each new OS X, so we've changed our policy to eliminate that burden. See the release notes for more fixes and features available in the latest plug-in release, including improvements to pop-up and dropdown menus. About 2empowerFM Plug-ins Our 2empowerFM line of plug-ins save you time during FileMaker development and add powerful features to your FileMaker solutions. Our plug-ins include: 2empowerFM Developer Assistant - Quickly search all scripts to find ones containing a string or pattern. - Find table names, function and script step names, field metadata, and more, without generating a DDR. - Debug and develop faster by evaluating highlighted expressions immediately instead of copying, closing dialogs, and pasting into FileMaker's Data Viewer. 2empowerFM Hands-Free Printer - Automate printing and control printer-specific settings. - Save money by automating the use of double sided, toner saver, etc. - Prevent costly mistakes like printing all records instead of current record. 2empowerFM Menu Popper - Pop-up multi-level menus anywhere on a FileMaker layout. - Use unique dropdown menus to show type-ahead search results from multiple searches. - Make menu items bold, italic, underlined, bulleted, or add separator lines between items. 2empowerFM Keyboard and Mouse - Easily link hotkeys to scripts, create image-map buttons, and change the mouse cursor. 2empowerFM Clipboard Explorer - Save and restore objects on the clipboard including stylized text, FileMaker scripts, and layout objects. - One of our many FREE plug-ins! 2empowerFM Text Toolkit - Perform powerful search and replace in database text using Perl-compatible regular-expressions. - Generate a hash of data using many algorithms including SHA512, MD5, and TR1. - Another one of our FREE plug-ins! 7. Crestline, CA, April 22nd, 2013 -- Dracoventions has released 2empowerFM Menu Popper 3.0, the first FileMaker plug-in to let you add advanced dropdown menus to FileMaker layouts. Dropdowns can be used for things like type-ahead suggestions based on a search of multiple FileMaker fields. For example, as the user types, you might show matches in first names, last names, and email addresses, along with separator lines between each type of match. Showing suggested matches below your fields makes data entry faster and reduces duplicates. Dropdowns placed below FileMaker fields respond to up/down arrows, close when Esc is pressed, and even open again when the field is clicked in or first entered. If a match is chosen, you can populate other fields based on the record id of the chosen match, saving your users even more time. Menu Popper 3 also supports bold, italic, underline, and disabled styles in all its menus, along with bullets in its pop-up menus. Menus can now be kept in memory, combined together, and their items can be added or deleted. Menu items can even be shown conditionally based on what keys are held down, and a script can be run when a menu item is chosen. The new 2empowerFM Menu Popper is available immediately at menu.2empowerFM.com for both Macintosh and Windows. More Menu Popper Features - Save space on your layouts by changing a series of buttons into a single button that pops up a menu. - A sub-menu can be attached to any pop-up menu item. - Show any menu item and return any value when that item is clicked. - Construct a menu using a FileMaker "Value List", comma separated list, or any other list of items separated by whatever character you choose. - Create menus based on SQL queries, eliminating FileMaker table occurrences whose only purpose was to generate Value Lists used to show FileMaker menus. Pricing and Availability 2empowerFM Menu Popper 3.0 is available immediately at menu.2empowerFM.com This is a free update for those who purchased a license within the last year. Older customers may purchase upgrades at 50% off. New user licenses start at $49. Server and Developer licenses are also available. All plug-ins can be tested for 30 days free of charge and demos are fully functional. About Dracoventions Dracoventions is a FileMaker Business Alliance (FBA) member located in Crestline, CA, USA. 8. Hi All, I have a layout where there is a "New" button to add a new record. When the new button is clicked, it performs various scripts (e.g. new record, set field, etc.) However, when the user uses the shortcut key CTRL+N to create a new record on this layout, it does not go through the script steps. Is there a way or is it even possible to tie the shortcut key to the "New" button? I have other layouts that has "New" button as well but performs a different "SetField" script, i would like CTRL+N to be dynamic depending on layout. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
  9. Ok, BIG newbie. I'm trying to wrap my mind around how to have an item made up of a combination of items, ie: (hot dog + drink + chips; chips + drink; breakfast burrito + drink; etc...or even Hot Dog + Hot Dog + Chips + Drink) What I have are tables with the item categories (easy to keep straight "to me"), such as Hot Dogs, Toppings, Drinks, etc...so I could have a table Specials that would have a line item made up of the combinations. Hope this is making some sense. This is what I have so far (just making tables that make sense "to me" at this point...any advice is appreciated) I'll just attach my starting point db. (EDIT: says I'm not permitted to upload this kind of file...filename.fmp12) PDF attached instead. Also, I wondered how to have a conditional calculation for this scenario: I have multiple hot dog toppings that can be added for one price (.50), but still want the toppings as seperate items. To get a cost per item evaluation at the end of a day; cost of each condiment/retail price is needed to track----so, if customer gets coney sauce, cheese, and onions for example, but customer price is same for ANY/ALL toppings... Clarify: -customer 1 Hot Dog -coney sauce (.50 to customer), but get (cost to us) -customer 2 Hot Dog -coney sauce -onion (.50 to customer), but get (cost to us) -stadium mustard / -customer 3 Hot Dog -saurkraut -cheese -onions (.50 to customer...and a quick need to get to a restroom ), but get (cost to us) -jalapenos / -pickles / Again, I appreciate any insights! Thanks! HHD Menu.pdf
  10. I am using FM 12 Adv 03  I have a custom menu for my application. The first menu choice is FILE. It is specified below:   When I am working in FM using the menu the OPEN and OPEN RECENT.. choices are available.  When I am working in the runtime version, OPEN and OPEN RECENT are not available.  Is this by design or am I missing something? (I know the latter is more likely)  Ron
  11. Hi, I am desiging a database that will be used by our staff in various countries on various platforms (iPads/iPhones/computers). I want to make the layouts and menu items only visible and accessible based on privilege set and their platform, but without cluttering the Layout Menu. I would appreciate if anyone can offer some advice on any possible improvements to my design. My database has a range of tables (e.g. contacts, intelligence, events, correspondence), as well as a couple of privilege sets (e.g. Manager, Director, Big Boss). Not all tables are interesting to everyone, and some are Big-Boss-only. The database is hosted on FileMaker Server 11. The database is currently set up such that, upon log-in, the database will bring the user to a layout (Landing Pages) specific to their privilege set. Each Landing Page has its own buttons that bring the user to other layouts again specific to the privilege. For example, Manager-Landing Page only have buttons to access Contacts, Events and Correspondence; while Big Boss-Landing Page only have buttons to access Contacts, Intelligence and Events, but not Correspondence (not interested). The idea is to incorporate some sort of security as well as avoid cluttering the Landing Pages for staff with layouts/tables that they won't need anyway. I have configured the layouts so that they are only visible based on privilege settings (but not platforms). The Layout Menu itself is organised into folders, for example all layouts from the contacts table are grouped under the Contacts folder. The issue I then have, is that I end up with a lot of empty folders that other staff have no access to its contents (e.g. an empty Intelligence folder) - Sooner or later somebody is bound to start requesting access and stir up office politics. If there is anyway to improve my current design I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and advices. Many thanks, MacGuffin p.s. I'm not sure where to post this topic so I placed it here, seeing that it has security and layout components in it. If this is misplaced I kindly thank the administrators for moving it elsewhere more appropriate.
  12. Navigation Menu

Hi! This is my first post, I'll try not to bother u with stupid questions! (I hope this is the place for this question) I m developing my very first FM application! It s going quite slow but I m making some progress. My question is the following: I m hiding status bar so I have no way to navigate between layers. Therefore, I m decided to create my own navigator menu (kind of custom menu). 1) I would like to make it dynamic (just in case I need to add a new layer). For this purpose, I m quite sure I have to create my menu using the DB, so that, I'd be able to modify the menu by adding a new record in my table. (Please, correct me If I am wrong). 2) I'm trying to make a two levels menu. I have no idea how to solve this problem. For instance: Initial state... Menu 1 Menu 2 Menu 3 After clicking Menu 2... Menu 1 Menu 2 Submenu 1 Submenu 2 Menu 3 I know it's possible because I saw it in one FM app. 3) Do I need to copy the menu to all the layers or I could create the menu in a specific part of the layer (such as head) and it will automatically copied to all the layers. I know this is not the default behavior, but I expect that perhaps there is a way to do it! Of course I'm not expecting to get how to implement all this stuff. I just need to know if I'm right in what I'm thinking. (Hints are more than welcome) Thats all! I know it is a huge question. Thank u in advance.
  13. FMPro 11 FMServer 11 Advanced running on Windows server r2 Platforms used: PC & Mac I'm a newbie when it comes to custom menus. I have created a custom menu for a layout in one of our databases. We have several priv. sets. If we log in with full access, the custom menu works. If we log in without full access, the menu items are grayed out. This is true regardless of platform. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  14. When FileMaker 11 was released, one of the lesser documented changes in behavior concerned the defining of menu names when dealing with Custom Menus. When any menu element has an empty name, an interesting thing happens… Read the Full Article Here…
