  1. Hey, I have a Tab-Separated Text File which I want to import to a database that I just created in FileMaker Pro 15. The text file essentially is a log of events, for instance, one line describes an order, another line describes a payment that has been made. The problem is that I somehow need to import all these lines into different tables. I want all lines in the log file that describe a payment in a table called Payments, and all lines that describe an order in a table called Orders for example. I'm just starting out with FileMaker so forgive me if there is an obvious solution that I'm not aware of. I have a background in software development, so the only solution that I can think of is writing a small program myself that does all the parsing for me and creates separate text files that contain all the orders and payments and other events that have been logged in the file. Then I could simply import each file into the table I need all the data in. So to sum everything up, my main question is if there is a way to somehow parse the text file before importing it. I know that you can create custom scripts in FileMaker but I'm not sure if what I need to do can be done just with that. Thanks in advance, Mike
  2. Hello Am trying to clean up the email field on a filemaker database. At the moment there are many records that contain more than one email address or an email address and text. what I want to do is delete everything in the field apart from the first email address In the vast majority of cases the required email address is the first thing in the field. So my thinking is that the script would have to read along until it found an "@" symbol and then truncate the text at the next space comma or backward or forward slash as they are generally the methods people have used to separate the email addresses. Apart from that am struggling - I would be delighted if someone could give me some pointers on this
  3. Hi All, I am trying to parse text from a Job Card Items table into the related Job Card and not getting the correct result.. as the Items in the Job Card are completed any anomalies have to be reported on the Job Card and with up to 50 items in the Job Card Items there may be more than one anomaly to report, (very rarely more than two) . If the Findings field is empty I am just inserting the Variables but when the field already contains data I am using this to parse the text: Position ( JobCard::Findings ; ":" ; 1 ; 1 )&¶ & $ProdName &" "& $ItemLocation & " " & $QItemSerial On the second insertion I am getting this: PR00023 FC iLLume Unit FC0000084 Unit damaged:46 PR00023 FC iLLume Unit FC0000084 Where is the 46 coming from ?
  4. Hello, I am a FM newbie and have been scouring the web for an answer to this problem: I want to eliminate the text within parentheses in a string, but I want to eliminate all instances: ORIGINAL STRING: This is a test of the (emergency) broadcast system. (It is only a test). Remain calm. DESIRED STRING: This is a test of the broadcast system. Remain calm. Can anyone help? Also, is it possible to tie the function or script to a field so that when the ORIGINAL string is put into the field, the field does the conversion automatically? thanks very much in advance, SB
  5. Parse Time

Hello All, This is probably one of those easy ones that I cannot get past. I have imported time data in the form of "01h:09m". I need to parse the two digit hours into one field and minutes into another. I can isolate the right three values, in this case "09m" but how do I remove the "m". Thanks Al
  6. I have been given responsibility for making sense out of between 750-1000 records that contain the legal description of land parcels containing oil & gas mineral leases. The listings currently all have a single field containing that information. I need to parse that single field into 6 new fields. The original single field I am starting from looks something like this: Section 36-3N-10W or Section 1-13S-2E or Section 23-17N-9W. These describe the "Section, Township & Range" of each piece of land. The separators between Section-Township-Range are always plain hyphens with no spaces. The first position is always the Section Number. The middle position is always the Township Number & Township Direction. The end position is always the Range Number & Range Direction. The Section, Township & Range always contain either a 1 or 2 digit number. Anything to the left of Section is considered Sub-Section information, e.g., N/2 NE/4 S/2 Section 1-9N-19W. (Sometimes there is no information to the Left of "Section".) I want to be able to write one calculation that will break apart the existing data in the single field and automatically paste the pieces into the following 6 fields: Sub-Section: All of the information to the Left of "Section" if it occurs. Section: Just the 1 or 2 digit Section number. Ignore the word "Section". Township Number: Just the 1 or 2 digit Township number. Ignore the hyphen. Township Direction: Just the "N" or "S" that follows the Township number. Range Number: Just the 1 or 2 digit Range number. Ignore the hyphen. Range Direction: Just the "E" or "W" that follows the Range number. Is this possible? Thanks for any help you can give me in understanding how to do this! Bruce Williamson
