  1. Dear Friends, Here i want an calculation for getting filter records by dropdown value list.Dropdown value list contain timeframe text. Here is some pics for the same.
  2. hey gang, I was doing some testing after looking at a file from Todd Geist on his devcon discussion on commit records and learned alot from it. I suggest you take a look. http://www.geistinteractive.com/blog/2011/08/understanding-commit-record-video basically i downloaded the files and was looking at his sort on one of the portals as i did not see a realational TO for sorting ; which i thought was the norm. Also, his take was pretty darn ingenious. he uses a Let([ ] ) statement within the portal he wants to sort and a global field is placed on layout for you to type in information to find precise name, etc. I have definately made this very simple and please take a look & see if you like. The beauty of this is the Get(ActiveStartPosition) & the Position Functions. Yeah, i said the same thing, but when i did it, i was just stunned by the simplicity yet elegance and once done, you have a library of this for future projects. thanks Todd!! portal_filter.fp7.zip

  4. Hello, I am trying to filter a portal that shows on a pop up window, but I haven't manage to do it. Maybe somebody can suggest some directions. In my project I am using a very long value list not suitable to a reduction using a conditional value list. Not suitable because there are no criteria that I could used in the conditional value list. So I decided to mimic the value list in portal on a pop up window. My purpose is adding to each Child record the ParentName of its related Parent record. The standard way of doing it is using either a Drop down list or a Pop Up menu with settings: Use values form first field: PARENT::__kp_Parent Also display values from second field: PARENT::ParentName However, the list of ParentNames is very large and cannot be reduced by a Conditional Value List. Therefore I need a way to show that lengthy list of ParentNames in a Portal on a popup window and from here select the ParentName that I want to relate to the current Child record. Tables: Parent Child Parent table fields: __kp_Parent Parent Name gFindParent Child table fields: __kp_Child _kf_Parent Child Name ParentName Table Occurrences: PARENT AllPARENT CHILD Relationships: PARENT::__kp_Parent = CHILD::_kf_Parent PARENT::__kp_Parent X AllPARENT::__kp_Parent From the Child layout, based on the CHILD table occurence, the Select button (Current script: Pause) triggers the Lauch Parent Selection script. When the Lauch Parent Selection script is triggered the user ends up in the ParentSelection layout based on the PARENT table occurrence. In this layout there is a portal to the AllPARENT table occurrence with two fields: AllPARENT::__kp_Parent and AllPAREN::ParentName. The two fields on the first row of the portal are grouped and together trigger the Portal Script used to select the Parent record that will be related to the Child record from which the Lauch Parent Selection script was triggered. On top the Portal there is the Cancel button (Current script: Pause) that triggers the Cancel script. No problem showing the Parent records on the Portal. The problem appears when I try to filter teh records shown on the portal. I tried, by failed: I have put the Parent::gFindParent field above the Portal on the ParentSelection layout based on the PARENT table occurrence. OnMobjectModify the Parent::gFindPArent field triggers the Parent Find script. Parent Find Script: # Error Handling Allow User Abort [ Off ] Set Error Capture [ On ] # If [ not IsEmpty ( PARENT::gFindParent ) ] Enter Find Mode [ ] Set Field [ AllPARENT::ParentName; PARENT::gFindParent ] Perform Find [ ] Else Show All Records Sort Records [ Specified Sort Order: ascending ] [ Restore; No dialog ] End If Go to Field [ PARENT::gFindParent ] Any comments about how to make the portal filter work are wellcome. Thanks, natursalus
  5. I've got a database that keeps track of classes teachers take. Many are unique, many are classes that several teachers take. When the class is a duplicate, it's assigned a group number. I use the group number for portals to display staff that have taken the same class. I'm trying to create a set of portals on a layout where the user to see just group class names, select a class, then see the members. If I create a portal based on records that are identified as a group class, all records show, thus the name is repeated. I'm looking for a way so the name of the class just shows once. Then the the user could select the name (globals would set with the group id number) and they could view who took the class through a second portal. I need ideas for how to just show the class name once. I tried creating a value list using the name of the class (shows only once), but when new classes are added, the value list is not update immediately. The user makes a new group class, adds staff members, but the new class doesn't show up immediately. HELP!!!!
  6. Hello all, I'm trying to create a dynamic portal filter and am running into some problem. I'm a sub-summary layout that marks whether a piece of data is missing from a record in the body and then counts the total number for each record type in the sub-summary part. I am trying to create a portal that filters its contents based on a globally stored radio button field that contains all the possible types of missing data. Ultimately, I want to be able to select a data type in that field and have the portal below display only records with that data type missing. The goal is for the portal filter to be dynamic so I can select whatever data type I want in a sub-summary and find the relevant records. I am not sure how to manage the portal relationship since the original table has a separate field for each type of data missing and the global field I'm creating a relationship to in the second TO has just one field with a value list that contains all data types. Is there a better way to do this? I've never used portals before and am not quite sure how to proceed in this case. Thanks! B
  7. For this Coaches’ Corner tip, Jonathan Lai demos a simple technique for creating a hierarchical portal i.e. a portal with dynamic sub-summaries. You can actually display or hide sub-summary groups! Very cool technique.
