  1. Hi guys! I hope someone can help me with this. I have a SUMMARY LIST field which contains types of items eg. (shoes, shoes, sneakers, boxers, jumpers, boxers, jackets, shoes, sneakers...). These items are also listed in a value list (boxers, jumpers, shoes, jackets, sneakers) Is there a way how I can generate a count list of items by and in order of the value list? Taken the example above, this count list would look like this (2, 1, 3, 1, 2). The commas here should actually be the carriage return. Tnx a lot!
  2. Hello, everyone, here’s my latest question. I hope this is the proper area to post it. I’m creating a flat-file movie database to keep track of where my movies are in my home. I added a serial number field, which gives me a running total of how many movies are in my collection. But I think I need something different, and am requesting help for creating it. I have several duplicate movies in my collection, and I don’t want the duplicates included in any total count of my movies. At least, not in my forms or reports. I don’t care if duplicates get serial numbers, and I don’t care if the count in the toolbar (i.e. 516 unsorted) counts them all. I understand that the serial numbers and toolbar count are for “records.” But I want a total count of my movies, excluding duplicates. What I’ve done is create a checkbox for duplicates. If the box is checked, then of course, the movie is a duplicate. Is it possible to create a field that has a running count of the movies in my collection, EXCLUDING the duplicates? If it is possible, what is the procedure from omitting them from any such subtotal, summary, or running total? Thank you! PT
  3. I have a layout that includes two sub-summaries. The topmost includes a summary field called studentGradeCount, which counts the number of students in a given grade. The subordinate sub-summary contains applicationStatusCount, which is a summary field providing a count of applicationStatus. Adjacent to the status count, I would like to provide a percentage, indicating what percent of the students have applications at each status. Logically, it would be applicationStatusCount / studentGradeCount But FileMaker doesn't return anything when I attempt this. Any help would be appreciated. FMPA 16.0.3 macOS 10.13.3
  4. I'm running into an issue hiding a text object in a sub summary part when a summary field in the same part is empty or zero. I created a little demo file to show my issue. I resorted to using Get Summary, but that still doesn't work in my solution (but it's much more complicated report there).   5. Hi, I made a Filemaker Database a couple of years ago for a correspondence school, now I'm building the same thing for another school. The database has a record for each student and a field for each possible lesson they can be sent. When a lesson is sent the date goes in the appropriate field. For reporting I had no idea what I was doing, so I just made a table with a field for each lesson and a script that would search within a date range, take a record count of the returned records take that number and put it in my report table. The date range is set by global fields for the start date and the end date. The script would repeat for the 200 or so lessons that we had available. I would then have a report of the number of each lesson that was sent in a date range. I guessing that there must be a better way, I have never used a summary report, is that something that would work? If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very very grateful. Hey Guys, Just a quick one, I have a large report that groups products together via Style, and has totals at the bottom in the green section (I realise they arent totalling but thats not my issue) My issue is, that when I export as a spreadsheet, my products stay grouped by Style, but I cannot for the life of me get the totals to stay underneath the columns of each group! Any help or advice would be appreciated, I just want it so that its in the format below with the group of products, then the totals beneath.
  7. I'd thought I'd solved this but looking at the background data it's not calculating properly. Any ideas much appreciated. I have a file with a date, bottle format, total cost and converted cost for larger formats (so, for example, 75cl might cost $20 but 1.5l costs $45. The converted cost of the 1.5l is $22.5). Assuming one beverage and just one bottle of each, I want to output a report which looks at the costs and converted costs over a specified period (eg 1/1/2016...12/31/2016) and outputs a 'premium' for, say, the 1.5l bottle. In this example, let's say I have 6 records: date1 75cl $19 date2 75cl $19.5 date3 75cl $20 date4 1.5l $43 date5 1.5l $45 date6 1.5l $48 Then searching between date1...date6 would give etc. However, it is not working out the totals correctly eg it is not calculating the premium properly for the 1.5l format - it appears to group all of the values together.
  8. Hi, I'm having some difficulties with my invoice-system. When having multiple pages on print, I want to have my Trailing Grand Summary on a fixed spot. (not trailing) Is there a possibility to have this result? If I would place my fields in the footer, they will show on every page, what is not the intention. Have you fixed this one before OR do you have a solution at hand? Thanks in advance!

Hi can anyone point me in the right direction, I have a database that as a Field populated by a value list, i.e.,: Christmas,Easter,Mothers Day , etc. I want to chart how many records exist of each chosen category. I thought it would be from a summary field using Total of and count but that option isn't available, How do I get filemaker to count the number of uses of the word Christmas from that field , can anyone help please?   10. I've got multiple Filemake databases with 4m+ records each. I've created a layout which calculates a summary using a sort, Groups and Counts. This takes 10-15 seconds, which is OK. However, when I try to export this summary report to Excel it appears that Filemaker has to recalculate all the Groups & Counts, but for some reason this takes several hours. The last report took over 4 hours. I can't figure out how I can simply export or copy the summary report that Filemaker creates for the Layout? Please can someone provide assistance because I have another 20 similar reports to do and this will take me days instead of hours
  11. Can anyone explain how FM treats a summary field if weighted by date? For example, say I have one transaction each month over 5 years. I want an average of these that would be a total each month's transaction values divided by 60. What if this were weighted by date?
  12. People like using cats in this forum and it keeps it simple. Let's say I have 3 types of cat (C) - Moggy (M), White (W) and Siamese (S). I am recording prices and using these prices for a report which produces their average price. I want to work out the premium that one breed of cat has over another expressed as a percentage of, say Moggies. I have 3 prices for Moggies: $20,$21,$22; 3 prices for White cats $30,$31,$32 and 3 prices for Siamese - $50, $55, $60. My nice summary report produced from a script shows the average prices OK but how can I work out the premium for the other breeds given the calculation has to be on a value which is already a summary? Cat M Av price $21 Cat W Av price $32 Premium $XX? (calc is (32-21)/21*100) Cat S Av price $55 Premium $XX? The average is worked out as a weighted average (just in case that is part of the solution)
  13. I have a need for a lot of cross tab calculations and have referred to the FM 13 Advanced Training Series, lesson 38 which covers this. I've used it for a while now but it's brutal in that you need to create two calculations for each individual 'cell' you wish to display: One calculation tells Filemaker what should be summarised, usually via a CASE statement. The other is the Summary field itself which appears on the layout. I tend to require 10, sometimes more columns which are based on date fields from an overall record list of 70000 so far. Is there not a better way of doing the cross tab calcs, something like (psuedocode) as I'm wary of fattening up the fields on the DB: Calc1::DoSummary (Case (DatePeriod = 1 and SortField = "Tourist" ; Amount)) Rather than two calculations: Calc1 ::Case (DatePeriod = 1 and SortField = "Tourist" ; Amount) sCalc2L::Summary Calc1 Thanks all
  14. Hi there I HOPE this is in the right place... I'm still trying to wrap my head around the FM SQL syntax and to a certain extent have had success. I'm preparing some chart information and need to show a margin percentage over a period of time. This would be calculated as (Income-Cost)/Income/*100. The ExecuteSQL statements at the end of the code should give me 5 percentages to compare over a period of time. My income and cost records are defined clearly in the data table each one having a text tag of either INC or COST, so DataTable::Amount records are either INC or COST. In turn, these are split into two other columns so I can summarise Income and Cost elsewhere in the system. I want to use these columns now to generate a percentage on a chart. I need to somehow get that into a SQL statement - the statement below doesn't work (I believe because I'm querying the derived fields of INC and COST which seems ridiculous that you cannot do this, so probably it must be me making an error). If I were to do Select SUM(Amount), this works fine as Amount is simply a number field?   15. Hi there I have a quick question regarding the final output of a summary zero result. I'm setting up a user import routine that needs to be very, very simple to use with checks and measures throughout. The data that's being imported, due to its nature, always comes back to a summary value of zero. This is the correct position. I'm currently at the testing phase where I'm summarising the values field to get a total and the result is always displayed as "-3.6e-11". Now, I'm happy that's zero, but I want to use this in a custom dialog box: "Your check digit is"&sCheckDigit Obviously I'd rather have "Your check digit is 0.00" displayed, rather than "Your check digit is -3.6e-11" I can't format it because it's not being used on a layout, I can't use GetSummay because there's nothing to break on given the flat nature of the import. Any help really appreciated on this, thanks
  16. Hi, I have a simple correspondence database with three tables: Contacts (called PEO), Correspodence (called peo_peocoo_COO), and a joint table called peo_PEOCOO. In Contacts, one of the fields is Country. I need to give a single number of how many countries has received correspondence from my team, so I wanted to count number of countries (not the number of times each country has ocurred) in the joint table. I am however having difficulty at using the methods commonly posted in the forums and would really appreciate some assistance. As an example, I have China China Japan China US Japan UK UK The number I would expect from the above is 4 - Four countries have received our correspondence in the past. I've tried using the ExecuteSQL method by creating a calculation field ("SELECT COUNT (DISTINCT Country) FROM peo_PEOCOO" ; "" ; ""). I however ended up with a question mark in every record. I've tried the "sum the reciprocal" method, creating, in peo_PEOCOO, a summary field CountryCount (which resulted in total number of records), a caculation field FractionOfCountryCount (which shows number of times each country has ocurred), and another summary field FinalCountryCount (which resulted in the sum of number of times each country has ocurred). Still couldn't get the number of countries in the peo_PEOCOO table. Finally, I tried "self join" method, creating a second peo_PEOCOO_SelfJoin, creating a calculation field in peo_PEOCOO called Counter, which is Count(peo_PEOCOO_SelfJoin::Country), and a summary field called CounterTotal which is a Total of Counter. It ended up again with the sume of number of times each country has ocurred. I would grateful if the community can help point out what went wrong in all my methods. I've got a bunch of student records, which include nationality and a progression decision. I would like to see the progression rate by nationality.  I've attached a screenshot of what I'm currently getting on a layout with sub-summaries sorted by nationality.   The # of students and the # of students progressed seem to be working. These are both summary fields, with the progressed number being the total of a calculation that is 1 if they progress and 0 if they don't. For the %, I have a numeric calculation field where I divide the two summary fields: (s_countStudentsProgressed / s_countStudents)  As you can see, the percentage I'm getting is that total overall progression rate, rather than the value in each sub-summary section. What am I missing? I can't use the "fraction of" summary field, because I don't want to know what percentage of our progressing students come from a certain country. I want to know what percentage of students in a certain country progress.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask.  Thanks! MS Access has 'group by' and it easily shows the number of records after grouped by particular field. e.g. [DATA ( 5 records ) ] Type Quantity 001 1 001 1 002 3 003 1 003 2 MS Access shows 3 (The number of records after grouped by 'Type') and result below in a second. 001 2 002 3 003 3 As far as I know, I have to make another table to have unique record(by 'Type) , and to count quantity. This is too much work compared to MS Access. In another way, I have to Make List view and add'sub-summary when sorted by' to it, and sort every time In addition, it won't tell me 3 (The number of records after grouped by 'Type') Are there any easy tips to achive this in another way?

Hi all - thanks in advance for any help you can offer.  I'm currently working on a report to show average keyword ranking (in Google search results) for a group of keywords, reported at monthly intervals.  I have a table which stores the average ranking position of 4 keywords, "marzipan", "flower paste", "ready to roll icing" and "fondant icing" each month (stored in field "SR_Keyword_Position")  In this table I also have a summary field ("SR_Average") which calculates an AVERAGE summary of field "SR_Keyword_Position"  I have a list layout for this table with a sub-summary part which has the "SR_Average" field on it which summarises the average ranking for the group of keywords, when the list is sorted by date. (See attachment)  PROBLEM TO SOLVE:  I am trying to create a filtered portal on a related layout which only shows 1 row per month, showing just the month name, and the month average keyword ranking.  EG:  December 2013       8.5 January 2014         7.6 February 2014        7.6   Please help!
  21. Hi all - I'm working on a reporting tool to display the number of facebook page likes a page has and track it over 3 months. I have a portal displaying the number of facebook page likes over a 3 month period (portal fixed at 3 rows) (portal row 1) 31-Dec-2013 Facebook Likes: 1806 (portal row 2) 31-Jan-2014 Facebook Likes: 1917 (portal row 3) 22-Feb-2014 Facebook Likes 2017 I need to calculate the increase / decrease between the first and third portal row eg: difference between 2017 and 1806 (211) Any ideas on how this can be achieved? I can only seem to summarise totals / averages etc with summary fields.

I am using FM 12.04 Advanced  I have a membership application.  Members -->> Dues  The LO is based on Dues     The problem is I can not get a Summary Count for Members::MemDuesStatus (Current or Late). I have placed the summary field in Dues. Didn't work. I placed the Summary field in Members. Didn't work.  The perplexing thing is that the Blue fonted Summary Totals work?  Is there something different about Count?  Â
  23. I'm using FMP 11 Advanced: I have a a report using a list layout in which a sub-summary part displays donations for each individual. Donations fall into different giving categories (High, Medium, Low -- for easy discussion). If there are 50 overall gifts for this year, I'd like to tally how many "High," how many "Medium," and how many "Low," gifts there are. I am setting a High, Medium or Low flag for each gift. If ( GIFT = "1-99" ; 1; "0" ) NOTE: I can NOT store or index this field because it references a summary field / unstored / calc field… Now I want to tally up those Flags, but they unstirred, so I'm not sure how to do that in the report / "on the fly." I made a self-join relationship which I had hoped would "find" all the records which have that flag (High, Medium, Low) and then I could create a field to tally the number of records in the category by using get(found count). It doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks
  24. Hi I'm currently working on a database where photo's are ordered on a website and need to be managed (via .csv imports) in FM12. This is all working pretty well so far but my problem is with the reporting/summary. The setup is that a FMdb (iPad/FMgo) generates the data that is imported into the site CMS where customers can order specific prints. That works fine. The modified data is exported (CSV) from the CMS and imported into another FMdb, that is related to the initial FMdb (where the data is generated). This second FMdb is the one that will generate invoices and ordertickets and so on. The structure is: VENUE (keyA) -> GROUP (keyA) | (keyB) -> ARTIST (keyB) | (keyC) -> PHOTO (keyC) When I generate an orderticket I use summary sort like: -VENUE -- GROUP --- ARTIST--> PHOTOS Which is perfect! But... If an artist has multiple images and also orders multiple it will list all ordered items like above. So Artist1 order 5 images and I'll and up with 5 lines (--- ARTIST--> PHOTOS). That is fine for the orderticket but not for the invoice (unspecified for a reason). Is there a way to only show one instance of Artist1, where the costs are grouped. So even if Artist1 has ordered 10 photo's of 1 dollar each, it will not list 10 lines, but just one with a value of 10 dollar? If I make a selfjoin on the PHOTO-table I can see in the portal that the amounts are added nicely to one sub-summary, but in the report I have no clue on how to omit all the instances but one with the summarized (sp?) price... I hope this made sense, my English isn't all that Thanks a lot!
  25. Hi There, I have a database with 1000's of children's games. I have teachers in other parts of the world classifying the games into categories. When they log in, a find is performed to bring up a specific 100 games for that teacher to categorise based on topic. The teacher categorising the Games to teach the animals (100 games) has a readout telling the teacher that s/he is on E.g. Game 4 out of 100 which is a calcualtion I made. Once they are done they check the 'Done' box in the Games::Done field. The teachers have requested that there is a readout telling them how many games they have completed and I am struggling to create a formula to acheive this. I imagine I need the count function to find not only the Games::Done that have been checked 'Done' but only those within the Games::Topic = Animals. I have to admit, I am bit amiss as to how to create such a formula. Would it be a summary field or a count function? Thanks so much for all your advice, Maria
