  1. I have two files (among others) in my database: 'Users' and 'Questions'. Users has one entry per user. One of the fields is a timestamp with the last date/time the user logged on. Questions has one entry for every question asked in a forum. It has a timestamp field that indicates when the question was asked. I want to be able to count the number of questions that were asked for each user since that user last logged on. I set up a new calculated field in Users with the following: If( Questions::InsertedDate>PresentLoginDate; Count ( Questions::InsertedDate );"") My logic is to count the number of instances of InsertedDate in Questions where the date the question was inserted was more recent that the user's last login (as stored in PresentLoginDate). Thank you in advance for a solution! I've searched for related topics but come up short.
  2. I have a layout that (in Browse Mode) has dropdown lists that display data from another table. I would like the new record created when filling out the layout to log the date/time the value was selected and display that on the layout, adjacent to the selection that was made. This is a form that, on paper would have several people sign and date it. The dropdown would be from a table of personnel. I would like there to be a field on the layout next to each persons name that autofills with the timestamp when they select their name. There will be several occurrences of this, and will not be at the same time, so an overall time stamp for the layout/record won't work. It needs to be the time that a particular field in the record was changed. I hope I'm posting this in the right section. I'm new to FMP and this is my first post here on the forums. Sorry if my terminology is off with my description of the issue. Thanks in advance for any advice :)
  3. Hi there I have a data table consisting of values which are summarised into some very complex reports. Under normal circumstances, running these reports is time consuming and therefore a poor user experience. As it happens, 80% of the data on a report is historical and will *mostly* not need evaluating. Therefore, I've developed a script which runs overnight to create simple values stored in number fields on a related table. I report from this instead. This means the report is 80% quicker on loading. All well and good....but, there is still a chance that data could change in the period between the scripts being run at night. If the data changes, the related table is then out of date. What I need is a second, smaller script, very lightweight which will update figures on the related table only if they change by user intervention. This means they're still accurate and the final reporting is still quick. The trigger would be something like (psuedo logic): If (Stored value on the reports table) is not equal to (the summary field it originally came from), then run the update script to make it equal OR as an alternative If (value on the data table) is amended today, then run the update script to ensure the reports table number is accurate I feel there's something I can do with a timestamp routine, but cannot get my head around this. Thanks in advance
  4. I have an ODBC connection to a MSSQL database that has several timestamp fields. In FM, I'd like some of the fields to display just the dates and other fields to display just the times. When I use the Inspector/Data Formatting area to make any changes, the changes do not stick - the fields always show both the date and the time regardless of my changes. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong in FM or running into a limitation based on my data source. Any thoughts or work-arounds? Picture example of ODBC data source fields attached.
  5. Hello I have 2 DB with the following fields VIDEO: CLIPNAME, RECORDED_DATE, and other fields not relevant to my question AUDIO: SOUNDFILE, RECORDED_DATE etc Unfortunately the recorded dates are different and so are the names. I need to link the two db and I hope to find a way to relate the two files so that the RECORDED_DATE in the VIDEO file will tell me what is the SOUNDFILE recorded in the other DB I tried to add a STARTDATE and ENDDATE to the AUDIO db to get a range of times so the VIDEO file could give me the Video FileNames recorded during the selected timestamp range Here I add samples of the two files to make it easier for anyone willing to help There are a few more records in the VIDEO files but this is normal while filming VIDEO.fmp12 Audio.fmp12 Thanks a lot for any help and regards
  6. I have a few situations where I need to be something specific having to do with dates. For the sake of this example, let's say we're dealing with pay periods.  payperiods table will have 1 record for each pay period. It will have a pay period number, a date the pay period starts and a date the pay period ends. See attachment table.png   From other tables, when a user enters a date...I need to be able to return the pp_number for which that date belongs. For instance, entering 7/12/2014 would return 2.  Entering 7/19/2014 would return 3.  Nothing is set in stone here, I'm open to a different structure, I just need an efficient way of looking up the pay period number.  Suggestions?  Thanks in advance!!! Jeff
  7. What is the best practice for retrieving the last sync timestamp? I want GO users to be aware of how much time has elapsed since their last sync as a reminder to sync often. I know the timestamp lives on the MirrorSync table, but I would have to make a new occurrence of the MirrorSync table and relate it to all the tables that have layouts that contain the timestamp which seems awkward. If I can get a timestamp of the last sync in a global field, I can run it through a custom function that outputs the time ago in words (e.g. 3 hours ago, or 5 minutes ago, etc.), and put it on my interfaces.
