Un able to Export Reocrds as fmp12

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone else found that you are unable to export .fmp12 records from FM 16? I use this step in many scripts and the first machine I upgraded ( out of 48 ) I get the "unable to save file" error every time. FM 15 works, FM 16 fails on the same DB, same table, same record set. I can't even export manually.

I made a screen movie here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOGcm4bt86o

Change the file options, but remember any of v16 "New to this release" will not work.

export .fmp12

BTW, all files made in v12 through v16 have the file extension of .fmp12

Hi Lee, I'm not sure what you mean. Change the file options for Minimum Version Allowed? ... and yes, I understand that .fmp12 has been standard for a while, thanks.

Click this dropdown option and change it to your other version.

As I stated above, if you use one of the Features introduced in FileMaker 16 it will NOT be available in say version 15 (14, 13, 12).

Thank you, I appreciate your help, but I'm don't think you understand my problem. I am unable to Export Records from v16 even though this works from v15. Opening or importing files is not an issue.

Did you actually try a different file name?

Yes, I've tried several Dbs and several machines (PC... Mac is fine) and various file names for the export.

Your example does not show that; and it is hard to tell whether you are using an extension in the file name.

Yes, I tried using no extension and letting FM add it and I tried adding the .fmp12 extension. I didn't bother to record all that. I've also checked disk and user permissions. I am convinced it is something in the new v16 because, as the video shows, v15 works just fine. FM Tech hasn't been much help.

Just some further clarification per Lee's suggestion:

I upgraded to FMS 16. This was smooth fast and simple, though I am struggling a bit with installing a wildcard SSL Cert, but that' another story for another day.
Most of my network is running PCs and all of those are Win 7. I have a handful of Mac clients but they all work fine with this exporting issue... it's only the Win 7 machines having this issue.

My personal workstation used for development and such is a late generation Macbook Pro running Sierra and Parallels Desktop for Windows development/testing.

Thank you all for you help.

Have you tried exporting to a different location? Desktop might have a security issue.

Yes, TempPath, documents, C:, etc... all the same result for v16... fine for v15.

What if you quit FileMaker 15?

Do you have any plugins installed?

Quitting FM 15 has no affect. I use TroiFile and is updated to the most recent version. Haven't tried removing it but I guess i could.

Yes it's best to eliminate as many variables as possible. Have you tried exporting from a local (non-hosted) file?

Yes, same problem with local files. I'll try removing plugins and see if that makes a difference.

Problem solved... it was unknowingly self inflicted.

I use Assisted Install and had set NONEWDATABASES=1, thinking this was only related to File>New Solution... it didn’t occur to me that this extended to Export records, which, of course, it does, since export creates a new fmp12 file.

I’ve adjust the assisted install parameters and reinstalled… all is well.

Thanks for your help. Maybe my error will help someone else who has made the same assumption.

Thanks for reporting back -- that's an obscure one for sure! Good job.

Using the script step export field contents, I can not export the contents of a container field. Error message reads ...could not be created on this disk. use a different name, make more room on the disk or use a different disk. I know I have had this in years past, but I can not remember the fix for this. I found something about setting the fonts to .ttf, but I am on a mac running fmpa16. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm doing an export of a table with 5 fields to an Excel file with an XSL stylesheet to control the formatting of the Excel data. So far it's working well - I just need to add some additional formatting for a few of the cells. I'm looking for help with examples/syntax for setting the following attributes:
      - making a cell bold
      - changing the font size of a cell
      - making all columns set to auto resize so they fit the contents of each column (same as double clicking the divider between 2 columns)
All fields I'm exporting are text fields.
      Thanks,
      Steve

      Hi Guys
I can't figure out a solution for this. The final result is an export, No data have to be stored in filemaker afterwards.
I need to combine and export data from 3 tables to the SAME field in Excel. Lets say we have table A: A1, A2 and A3, table B: B1, B2 and B3 and table C: C1, C2 and C3. These are tied together by a unique number in the solution. I need these fields to output i the export as all 1's in one column beneath each other, all 2's in one column beneath each other and all 3's in one column beneath each other.
I am thinking, that I need a new table to combine these fields in 3 new fields D1, D2 and D3 and then do the export of this table. After export, the table could be deleted until next export. I am thinking this should be set up as a script.
Does the above make sense, and could it be done via a script?
Thanks for the help - really appreciate it!

      Hello,
I've done quite a bit with FileMaker in the past, but have never jumped into the XML arena. Now I have a need to do so, and I'm really needing some help with something I'm sure is quite basic...but still foreign to me. I have an external data source which export XML in a very specific format (see attached). I need to import that into FileMaker so I can manipulate the data, do some various lookups, etc. Once I've made my changes in the data, I need to export in the exact format it was when imported so the external data source can properly import.
Not sure if it makes sense to import into 2 tables (workflows, workflow steps) or just a single table. I'm open either way. Once the data is in FileMaker I can get all my calculations and lookups and scripts going and make the data what I need it to be, but then I'll need to export it.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
      Thanks so much in advance!
      Jeff

Good morning everyone I created a database runtime solution with FileMaker Pro 15 advanced. The program must export the contents of a form in PDF format. In a solution that runs under FileMaker I could use the command "Save as PDF" but this command does not work in a runtime solution. Could someone tell me how I could make this function? thank you so much.
