Mac OS - Java Update 6 crashing Filemaker

Recommended Posts

Apple just released an update 6 for Java and I'm having a problem with Filemaker crashing as soon as you pull up a layout with Supercontainer on it.

The problem is only showing up on Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7, and nothing yet reported for PC's.

It appears that this version of Java is not compatible with Supercontainer 2.83. I've tried downgrading SC to 2.74, which has always worked in the past, but it still crashed.

The only way I can get any functionality back is to turn the applet off, thereby bypassing Java.

I'm stumped. I've searched for Java Update 5, but it seems that as soon as Apple posts a new version, the old one is gone forever.

Any help would be appreciate.

Chris

An update... I've turned off the applet, and the crashing stops.

But, while doing so, I noticed that the only SC windows that were crashing FM were the ones referencing "Files" versus the ones where I reference "RawData". It appears that it's not Java necessarily, but some portion of it that is not playing nice with SC.

Darn, I have the same problem too. Adding +noapplet to the webviewer url has fixed the crashing issue, but at the sake of loosing essential functionality. Hurry up and release a fix please apple!

The issue you are experiencing is due to a bug in the latest version of Java released by apple. We have already reported the bugs. In the mean time, all java applets (such as SuperContainer) will cause FileMaker to crash. We have released an update to SuperContainer to automatically disable the java applet on mac clients. You will not be able to use java applets in FileMaker on mac until apple releases a fix for these issues, unfortunately.

You can download the latest version of SuperContainer from http://360works.com/supercontainer/.

Thanks for the update David.

I had SuperContainer version 2.83 running and it was still crashing.

I ended up creating a user-based variable that lets me disable applets when someone tells me they have a problem.

2.831 contains the fix. Make sure that you update your server, and not just the plugins on your client. The server update is what fixes the issue.

You need to update your SuperContainer server, not the plugin installed on your filemaker server. The SuperContainer server itself is what will automatically disable the java applet once you upgrade to 2.831. Make sure you either run the installer to update to the latest version if you have SC installed as part of FMS or run the latest version using supercontainerserver.jar.

Curious, since I would rather not do this work around. And being IT for a small business that has spent mucho money on getting this database to where it is. I don't think the owners or our production people, to lose this java functionality. That being said, I have found downgrading java to be a very difficult task to do, so my option is to just reinstall an OS and update everything but JAVA. Now we have it set up for password protect for updates. But there are senior people that can bypass and although emails are sent out, still it is happening.

Longstory short,

I am way to busy to continue researching downgrading JAVA, so I think since the options are pretty bad, leaving java to never use filemaker again, disable applet, then what was the point of super container?

So if anyone has a quick link to a java downgrade steps? Also I think 360 should supply information to people who ask about it, since your software is crashing filemaker.

Thank you.

      Hey,
I have a question about hosting my filemaker database. If I buy a license for 5 people form here: https://store.filemaker.com/filemaker-cloud , will I also need to purchase 5 normal FileMaker 16 Pro Client licenses so people can actually connect to the database? I don't quite understand how this works yet, maybe someone can help me out. Do I get the client licenses with the purchase of a server license? I need 5 people to be able to access it. Thanks in advance,
      Mike

      Hey Guys,
Thanks for having me I'm a beginner please take it easy haha!
Basically I have a calculation field, where I am trying to force the answer as "0" when the calc returns "?" (due to an empty field etc, for whatever reason I'm not concerned about)
      My calc is:
Round ( If ( IsEmpty ( Cash Sales Total Sales Value )=1 ; 0; (Cash Sales Total Last 7 Days-(Landed Cost*Cash Sales Total Last 7 Days)*1.2) / Cash Sales Total Sales Value ); 2) Now it returns an answer when there is one, or a "?" when insufficient data, all I want is to return a "0" in this case rather than a "?"

Thanks in advance and sorry for the noob question

      Hey,
I have the following problem. I'm working on a solution for the owner of several restaurants. Each restaurant has meetings once or twice a month. How would I structure the tables so that I could have a layout on which I select a restaurant and then inside a portal I get a list of all employees. On the portal for each row I want to have a button or checkbox to mark if an employee is present or not.
I already have the following tables:
      Restaurants, Employees and Meetings
So far I have a relationship between the Restaurants and Employees table which I use to assign employees to a restaurant, and a relationship between the Meeting and Restaurant table, which allows me to show all employees that work at a selected restaurant using a portal on the meetings layout. How do I proceed to solve my problem? Do I create another table MeetingAttendees or something similar that I use to keep track of people attending a meeting? How would I create a relationship then to allow me to mark certain employees as present and absent?
      Thanks in advance,
      Mike

      Hey,
I'm fairly new to Filemaker and have a few question which I hope you can clarify.
I have a Filemaker solution which I use for multiple customers. This solution exist of 2 files, a layout file and a database file. Everytime a new customer comes I copy the 2 files and clear the database so they can start fresh.  The problem i have with this method is that when I change something in one solution, I have to change it in all of them one by one. This takes way to many time.
My question is : What is the best approach for this ?
Is it possible to split up all "modules" to separate file? So I have a module (separate fm file) called Invoices, Contacts , Inventory etc... and set the database structure and  scripts in the separate file.
This way I have 1 main file which is connected to all the "modules" and all customers have their own main file connected to the "modules", this way if I change a script or database in the "module" it is changed with all customers.
Is this even possible? or is there a better way to approach this?

I hope you can give me some more information.

I have been using the the scriptmaster plugin for sometime on a previous Mac, specifically for the Rotate Image function.  The instalation on the previous Mac would have been FMP12 advanced, Scriptmaster plugin from about Sept 2015, and Mac OS 10.11.xx    My solution used the function pasted into the startup script and although it wasn't fast, worked fine.
I have now made a new installation of the Scriptmater Plugin, v5.05 on a new Mac running OS 10.12.5, FMP advanced 13, and there are a couple of strange things that appear to be assocaited with Java:
      1. When I launch FMP it does not come to the foreground.  Instead the foreground application is Java...
      2. When FMP is active, I see a Java application active in the dock.   This wasnt the case in my prevous installation of Scriptmaster where (if it was active), Java was not a foreground/visible process
      3. When I quit FMP, irrespective of whether the database that I was working on did or did not use a scriptmaster module or function, Java crashes and I get usual dialogue box "Java quit unexpectedly".  I have put a copy of the crash report here.
Any ideas as to what is going wrong?

      Thanks in advance
