harryk Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 "Your divider might be a comma, or a semicolon." I use semicolons, here on the forum I often see comma's. Next thing you see is a question mark.. Is there, considering cross platform functionality, something to keep in mind about this? May it be that in some circumstances scripts and calculations with semicolons are not valid as a comma is expected? Harry
RussBaker Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 The use of commas or semi-colons depends on what country system you have installed for. I think this stems from the use of commas instead of decimal points in numbers in Europe?
harryk Posted June 19, 2002 Author Posted June 19, 2002 It has something to do with the System format indeed, for numbers, dates and times and so on. I just wondered if the choice of the system format might in some cases be the wrong choice, I mean that the calculations and formulas might then not be read, because of the ' / ; difference. Harry
Vaughan Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 HarryK, no need to worry about it. The separator format gets changed on-the-fly when the database is opened. For some reason I had one machine that used semicolons as separators -- all my others used commas. When editing databases they'd display whichever separator the machine required, and they were able to be edited on any machine.
