how can i get the printer to automatically print to a file, i have tried saving settings on the print menu but it just switches back next time i use the printer confused.gif

You can use Applescript to stop the print queue. Then, when you print your report, the post script file simply sits in the desktop printer. So, you can then use applescript to move the print file out of the desktop printer, rename it if necessary and then restart the print queue.
