Newbies Param Posted September 29, 2002 Newbies Posted September 29, 2002 I'm using FM5 for the first time on an iBook running OS9.2. I'm creating a new database, very very simple. I have some fields where I want a predetermined choice of text. I created the value lists ok and allocated them to the fields. But when I try to create a record, the lists don't appear as pop-ups or anything else, when I tab through the fields, these fields are just skipped. Probably simple but I don't get it... Thanks, Param
Vaughan Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 Three steps to creating pop-up lists (or radio buttons, or check boxes, or menus) on fields: 1) Define the value list. Make sure it is actually generating some values! 2) in layout mode, change the field's Field Format to pop-up list (or radio button etc) and be sure to select the value list to be used. 3) change to Browse mode to see it work. Trouble Shooting Nothing happens whrn clicking on the field (no list or menu appear)... make sure you have formatted the field. List or menu appears but it is empty... make sure a value list has been selected in the Field Format options for the field. Make sure the value list has some value in it.
Newbies Param Posted October 1, 2002 Author Newbies Posted October 1, 2002 When I revisited what I had done, using your checklist, I found I had done what you suggested, but the catch was the box at the end of this sequence: Layout / Format / Field format / Behaviour / Allow entry into fields. I had not ticked this box. When I did, end of problem, all other things being equal. thanks for your help. I'm glad to have found this site! Best wishes - Param
