I have been unable to figure out how to create a script that will result in either (i) "normal" text or (ii) strikeout text. I would like to attach the script to a button that would be a transparent field that would sit on top of the text, so that the user could click on the text to alternatively yield the normal text or the strikeout text. Thanks for the assistance.

I'm not sure what you mean, but try this: duplicate your layout. On the first layout display the normal text. On the second layout display the strikeout text (it will have to be in a different field). Just switch between layouts to display the different styles.

Anything more complictaed than this (if you want to be able to change text formatting within a field) is beyond FMP's capabilities.

It's a great database but a lousy word processing program.

Attached is a file that may be what you are after. It uses calc fields with formatting applied to the result and self relationships.

Hope this helps

I think that the attached file provides pretty well exactly what you are looking for. No calc fields or relationships, just two stacked text fields and a script. Click on the 'field' (stack) and it will become 'StrikeThu' - click again and it is back to normal.

Shift-click the field to enter it for editing (at the same time removing StrikeThru formatting if that was active).

Have a look and see if this is what you were wanting. The file is password-free.

Cheers,

Ray - Your solution is simple and elegant. (I will be honest; I can duplicate it, but I don't yet really understand it. I will get there. Many thanks.

(I need to adapt it to various situaitons; but I can work on that. )
