Newbies kwaghorn Posted October 15, 2002 Newbies Posted October 15, 2002 I am wanting to specify different colours in a particular field where the colours may be different for different records. (This therefore means that I can't do this in layout mode or it becomes global.) At the moment we just use the words (ie red, yellow, etc) but would like to know if it's possible to actually have a pull down menu of the different colours.
CobaltSky Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 Colors cannot be indexed by FileMaker Pro, so therefore value lists, which are based on text and indexes, cannot be displayed on a pop-up list or menu. However there is a technique by which you can select a color either in text from a pop-up menu, or by clicking on a swatch, and have the corresponding color appear. Rather than explaining the details, I've posted an attached file with this message (see 'attachment' above) which demonstrates the technique. colors.zip
Newbies kwaghorn Posted October 25, 2002 Author Newbies Posted October 25, 2002 Thank you for your reply. The attached file was especially useful. I am, however, still left with the question can you have different colours in a particular field for different records...? I'm attaching a file which shows the "problem".
CobaltSky Posted October 25, 2002 Posted October 25, 2002 Yes, that is quite possible. I only set up the previous file roughly to give you the general idea. But with a small change it will work across all records as you wish. I've made the change to your test file, and the new version, which is working the way you want is attached.
Newbies kwaghorn Posted November 9, 2002 Author Newbies Posted November 9, 2002 Thankyou! It works brilliantly!
Newbies aschol Posted November 22, 2002 Newbies Posted November 22, 2002 Hi, Although it's not possible to make a dropdownlist with graphics, it is possible to make something which looks like that. Using the "portal"-trick to show or hide specific buttons and/or fields you can mimmick a dropdown list. Attached is your "color.fp5" with a small adjustment... greetz, AJ, colors.zip
AFK Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 i am trying to duplicate this same simple database and am having trouble doing this. I have taken this database apart and re creating it but am not coming out with the same fields with the colors listed in them. I have taken the script away as well. How do i get the colorname field to list all the colors like a portol. Any suggestion would be helpful. thanks corey afk [email protected]
